I'm about to uninstall this because right now it is unplayable and just taking up valuable SSD space. I'll come back to the game when Higby is replaced, so quicky question, do I need to backup character? Or is it backed up on SOE's side.

It's backed up at SOE end, no need to worry. When (if) you come back the EU login times might be back below the 37 minutes it took me to login tonight. If they can get it under 20 mins it will be a miracle. Strange I can always login to a US server in less than 10 seconds. I suggest they move the EU servers to the U.S. it plays better on U.S. servers anyway despite the slightly higher latency.
