Alternate Base Objectives

I'm just going to throw out a few ideas here. Maybe you'll like them, maybe not. These ideas are a sort of base modifiers that provide a few extra tools or extra layers of defense for defenders in a base.

    Xiphos Point Defense Turret

The Xiphos Point Defense Turret is an indoor turret that is designed and placed in such a way that the only way it can be used is to kill enemies trying to take the point. They are mounted by a control panel in a building at the base that is in a sensible defensible position. Nobody is "in" the turret, it is simply being controlled remotely. The player's avatar remains stationary at the terminal.

They will be indoor turrets only, and they will only guard choke points that lead to the point, and the point itself. They have no heat mechanic. They do not generate kills. As long as the base is contested, and the control point remains on the defender's side, the operator of the turret is awarded experience at timed intervals.

The Xiphose Point Defense Turret is indestructible. The visual cue for this is a permanent empire-colored vanguard shield covering the turret. The turret absolutely cannot see any sign at all of a cloaked infiltrator, moving at any speed.

Disabling the Xiphos Point Defense Turret can be accomplished by killing the player at the terminal controlling the turret. EMP Grenades will stop the turret from firing for 5 seconds. An attacking infiltrator can hack the terminal to stop someone from coming back and re-using it. It must be re-hacked by a defending infiltrator. It cannot be destroyed. The attacking empire can not use the turrets, only disable them.

    Main Terminal
The Main Terminal is a console in the base specifically designed to make it easier to coordinate a defense. Located in a building near or around the spawn, the Main Terminal's primary function is to allow a player to assume a leadership role at the base, suggesting troops to secure objectives and coordinating attacks.

Once you begin operating the panel, you are given a map view of the base with all available allies highlighted, and all spotted enemies highlighted, like a giant minimap. You will be able to set objectives, such as "Secure Xiphos Turret Terminal", or "Defend the Point". You will also be able to select enemy sunderers and issue the order to destroy them. Right-clicking on an empty space on the map, you'll be able to request class-specific support, such as a revive grenade or an ammo pack. Any completed objective by a player awards the leader with experience, and the player with experience.

The leader can be thrown out of the panel by a vote of the players defending the base. If another player wants to take over the leader position, they simply try to mount the terminal while the other player is using it. Everyone gets a notification whether they would like to swap "LeaderA" for "LeaderB" with a yes/no prompt. If denied a leadership position, that player cannot attempt again for 10 minutes at that base.

You have the option of ignoring a specific leader, similar to the ingame ignore function.

    Yes yes yes!
But I thought more of something like Search and Destroy in CoDs where you have to destroy something, or TDM where the faction with bigger score would get extra xp.

Yes! It is great. Adds lots more strategic depth with the command console. Just make sure turret ain't op

The turret is meant to slaughter the attackers if it is online. You could keep jamming it, but that would require a lot of infiltrators on point throwing a lot of resources at a problem that could be fixed by controlling another part of the base. How overpowered the turret ends up being depends entirely on where the consoles are located in the base. Too far from spawn and that room goes down way before the point does. Too far back, and its too easy to defend. Would be tricky to place, but if done correctly it could add a tad of strategy to taking bases.

This can pretty much be done by the players, though I do wish that command feature which 'points at objectives' can be used to offer secondary objectives that would give a bit of a bonus experience gain from performing like 'capture/destroy device' or 'defend objective' .
