Are anti personal mines *invisible*?

So your saying, it isn't your fault that you dont have flak armor on, or have a LA with you?.... seems to be what your saying.because both those things will save you.
I think tis quite obvious that you dont want to use tools given, in favor them just removing the issue for you.

The fact that you can put charges on the respawn doors/walls, and even through a bouncing betty at it, and kill everyone inside is complete and utter ********. All engineers do is wait beside the door, slap a c4 or mine and everyone inside the spawn, lets say its in a Bio Lab, blows up.

The game doesn't have that many insta-gib moments, at least the weapons that do require some skill and/or aim. But PS2 bouncing betty/claymores are just a nightmare. Instead of being items to "soften up" victims or make you aware of an advancing soldiers in x location they pretty much end up being as "Woo! Free kills!".

    a wiki... hahahaha

gotta love people who have no actual experiance
  5. -lOldboyl-

So are you saying I'm forced to use flak amour 24/7 since it's near impossible to spot them?
  6. Tasogie

HAHAHAHAH Jesus this is a prime example of why all these demands are out an out lies.
    This does not happen.
Mines to NOT stick to walls,
grenades do NOT get thrown inside the spawn rooms, it does not happen.
Mines CAN be put on the steps,
mines can be put on ground.
mines can be put on the roof OUTSIDE.
mines can be placed inside the spawn room by someone INSIDE the room.

what has happened an "should" happen is when you lose a base an engi inside the room places a couple mines around the room, or next to the supply stations, an when the new owners come in, they get killed an blow up the supply stations.
it's called scorched earth, an is a VERY good tactic.
  7. Tasogie

Again your wrong, your not forced to do anything, why is it, you see mines as this unholy threat to your gaming, an yet in 160 hours played I have died to mines 7 times....
    interesting....
As I said if you dont have a light assault with you who I am told can spot mines, its y0ur fault.
if you do not use thermal sights, its your fault.
both these things will spot mines with ease.

    Heavy Assault Rocket Launcher...
    Infiltrator
    Ridiculously Pwning RocketPods/Libs
    HE Shells of all kinds.

I agree that the current base set up is meh when it comes to AP mines... but I want AP mines to actually matter. For that to be the case they need to cause near instant if not instant death. Its not like the guy won't come back or he doesn't have back up. I mean its not like people can place many... and when they place them in obvious chokes during a defense you just have to call a guy with C4, EMP grens, a tank, or a HA, or a guy with a gun to shoot it. Maybe make them render further...
  9. Tasogie

what beats me is why more people dont use them. They should be laying dozens of mines around bases when they are attacking/defending them, they are great remote protection.

I don't think that Anti-Personnel mines are invisible, once I saw an uncloaked enemy infiltrator standing by a friendly Sunderer, took him out, and then saw some suspicious stars lying on the ground by the Sunderer terminal. Though, I only saw them because they were on the white snow of Esamir, where they kind of stand out. On the grey floors of a facility, they would be pretty hard to see, and I think that people could think of them as being invisible when they are just blending in.

    bugged maybe...
idk in your video your first death was with a mine right at the corner of the door (no i couldn't see it but thats the most obvious explanation and a good tactic when placing mines)
your 2nd death you weren't even facing the mine, or looking for it (you were side stepping to it)
the 3rd death...ok thats the only death i couldn't explain
    most likely a bug
  12. LordBelak(!)

Also there are some rocks and such objects that you don't actually collide with but still visibly protrude from a surface. It's possible that they put a mine in there.
  13. -lOldboyl-

I didn't say I'm forced to use Flak armour constantly, that's what YOU are suggesting. These are suggestions you are giving me to avoid random and unavoidable explosive deaths because the game offers no visual or audio indication they are present.

So according to you to avoid them... I need to run with flak amour, have a light assault scouting ahead and have a thermal sight on my weapon.

I'm sorry but that's a joke, you are just defending an unrefined gameplay element. Something that other games have avoided or come up with a better solution. Even the woeful BF3 did claymores better, you could see the claymore (an actual visible model) and had tiny lasers so if people stuck them in doorways you could at least react if you saw them.
  14. Tasogie

lol I told you that ANY of those things will save you 100% of time. Not all of them. Every tactic an item in game has a counter. The onus is on you to use those to defeat whatever it is.

They are not unavoidable, as has been said you were not even looking for mines in your vid. You should ALWAYS be scanning for them.
  15. -lOldboyl-

I think you have me confused with somebody else, I have posted no videos. But the videos are interesting, that guy is going slowly and taking care yet still getting nuked. If it's that bad going slow and easy then how is anybody likely to see them when fighting.

All I'm saying is that all these anti-personal weapons need to be at clearly visible. Not some tiny or buggy 3D model that can't be seen, I wouldn't even mind if they insta-killed soldiers if they could be seen.

My post had little to do with the topic yes, but I never said mines, i said CHARGES. like c4. Mines can be played on the GROUND yes and bouncing betties can definitely be THROWN (accidentally said through instead of throw) and land at the respawn room wall/door and still massively damage or kill people inside.
SO before you laugh at a comment, learn how to accurately read it. This isn't about losing a base, it's about taking the outside posts of a Biolab or facility and using the teleport to get inside. Then, without ever leaving said room that is "protected" by a barrier, they can still die from explosions.
  17. Tasogie

    If mi
if mines are clearly visible they become utterly useless. As it is, they are easily defeated, the trouble as it it always is, is people refuse to take it upon themselves to take those precautions.

As for vid, fair enough I thought it was you.
    Thermal/NV sights see mines instantly.
Flak armor will stop you ever dieing to a mine (singular)
LA can apparently cert into an ability to see them.

Claymores are clearly visible to any an everyone. I take great delight sometimes in shooting them when I see someone place them, blowing it up in his face. Always amusing.
  18. Tasogie

only if you are standing at the doorway. if your standing back form it, you take no damage.
  19. -lOldboyl-

Some pretty good books on the subject also ya know, I guess they must all be wrong also...
  20. -lOldboyl-

No they don't. I think it's fair that people could be allowed to see them that 0.2 of a second before they run over them. I'm not suggesting they stand out like a Las Vegas Casino sign but the 3D models need to be large enough to be seen and not clip inside objects in buildings.

But many objects in the game are not very well thought out. Ammo packs for example are tiny, some people don't even see them and good luck spotting one from even a small distance. Most people only see them because of the icon + minimap marker.
