Crosshair Overlay allowed?

Why waste your time? The forum moderators don't control the game.

DBG already confirmed that they are OK.
  2. NyaR

It doesn't modify gameplay. It is an overlay. It resides over the gameplay on a different layer. At no point does it touch alter the game.
  3. Goretzu

To be honest I don't see why they just don't have them in-game (or the option of them), if they allow them.

That autohotkey thing though, that technically would fill all the above critera too, but does a LOT. :(

So let me get this straight,
DBG (or SOE) design a game, give it certain limitations, i.e. No reticle in third person, EMP removes all HUD info, and then said, f*ck all that, you can circumvent those gameplay limitations with a script.......

    o_Oreally??

In other words, ''Cheating is OK by us! Go for it!''

Just when i thought they couldnt reach any lower.

Almost time to throw my computer away and find something new to do, the levels people will stoop to just to get 'good stats' is ******* incomprehendable, makes me screw up my face and i dont want to screw up my face. It really is pathetic.

Even if this sort of thing is undetectable, condoning it is straight up encouraging cheaters.

Personaly when im playing the game, you know experiencing gameplay and i get EMP'd, i cant see my reticle.
When some1 using an overlay gets EMP'd they still have the ability to aim perfectly as if they hadnt been EMP'd.
You've got to be a complete total and utter moron to not realise that not feeling the effects of an EMP is totaly changing gameplay.

An overlay, undetectable or not, can be used to relay information you would not normally have rights or ability to get...

There are a fair few out there and you're only limited by your lateral thinking as to how they would be of use.

Here is the purpose of the Recursion Stat Tracker (from the RST website):
"A fully capable in game overlay is provided for viewing your session stats, kill history, and weapon history in real-time."

Petrilaiho took advantage of that (modified the stat tracker overlay) and added central crosshairs.

I'm pretty sure that when SOE or DBG "condones" the use of Recursion Stat Tracker (or others), they are referring to the STATS OVERLAY PORTION, and not the fact that someone would modify it to add full-time crosshairs.

You know what, whether or not it's a bannable offense, it ultimately shows Petrilaiho's true colors: He is willing to do do "something extra" and beyond the scope of the game to get a real advantage over other players. In my mind, that tells me everything I need to know about his intentions and makes him .

Now if you're going to start listing a bunch of "something extra that we all do/can do" like this that and that, save your breath.

    It's NOT FAIR

After getting all that sunscreen on I went to the beach and SOMEONE had a an umbrella!

Why don't the beach people give ME and umbrella! I think their umbrella should be taken away. The levels people will stoop down to in order to not get sunburn is incomprehensible. It makes me so angry that I think I never want to go back to the beach again! *stamps foot*

Well go get your own umbrella if it matters that much to you.

JustHereForOrion, Brodo, PiecesofPizza, Kasatcho, Kabie, G7303H, etc don't have crosshair overlays and we all do just fine. It's not going to instantly make you better at working a mouse and keyboard, just allows you the convenience of picking a crosshair size and color other than white and on super rare occasions allow you to aim slightly better than knowing where the center of your screen is.

I'm not sitting here getting mad at other people for trying their best to do everything in their power to be at their best and therefore might have a 1/1000900000th of a percent "advantage" over me though using an overlay. That would be a case of blaming others for whatever incompetence I may have instead of adapting or working to solve my issue.

    Whatever man.
  9. DangerMeat

You are clearly, totally missing the point.
  10. Klypto

People are fully in your rights to bypass limitations in the game's mechanics with an overlay just like sticking a piece of tape on your TV and noscoping people on battlefield 2 on your PS2. The only difference is DBG recognizes that trying to enforce any policy on it would be pointless, especially since they encourage the development of third party overlays such as recursion so they allow it.

People are also fully in their rights to whine about other people doing what they don't like. That is what a good portion of this forum seems to serve as.

So as the discussion goes on, it is looking more and more like Petrilaiho is actually (technically) cheating, proven on video, and all you can do is call me a whiner. Tells everyone what you're about.

    It's allowed... It's not even a discussion

Less clear promptcritical quote. Context of this quote: crosshair overlays.

The thing is though, if that is their stance (and they may well have no other choice than for that to be their stance), then why not just have an offical crosshair that you can turn on in the options of PS2?

As that totally removes any issues and completely levels the playing field.

This kinda reminds me of both WoW and WAR where if two players had exactly the same skill level, the player with all the right add-ons would always beat the player with none - I never really understood that there (from a competitive PvP point of view), but in PS2 the solution is both simple and obvious.

Reactions to various points brought up:
    1) I don't tank, it's boring. Non-issue, but I see what the problem could be.
    2) As per various links given above, it's GM sanctioned.
    3) Reticule doesn't change size ever. The extra UI icon in the center is just a killmarker- it goes off when I get a kill.
    4) PantylaoVS lol. Imma use that.
    5) My killboard really depends on whether I give a **** or not, or am fighting low skill players. I started the character before I "got gud" so it's lower KD.
    6) Having crosshairs while EMP'd is an advantage I hadn't thought of/considered/use. Since you essentially become paper mache after getting emp'd, it's almost the enemy's fault for failing to kill you whether or not you can actually have a hip reticule or not. And if they're far away enough for reasonable engagement, you should ADS and it's a mute point. (muh immersion)

Honestly, the crosshair doesn't matter for me. It's a new addition as of a week ago because I got bored of the standard reticules. I researched the legality of such a thing, saw multiple go-aheads from GMs, and just tried it for lulz. I've been playing long enough and have drilled countless 1v1's on PTS enough to know how my stupid guns work, so it's really just eye candy for me. If my dot bores me, I can have a shiny new one! Novel!

If Radar_X contacted me and asked me to stop, it would be fine. My playstyle is so thoroughly ingrained in my fingers that having a dot doesn't change how I play. Just something new to look at after countless hours of the same **** every day. Also, this is something that literally anyone else could set up, so it's not an exclusive practice.

Protecting yourself from the sun =/= gaining an unfair advantage over your oponents.

So im guessing you condone doping in sports then yes?
Lance armstong is a hero right? I mean you can just go out and get yourself some drugs and be just as good as him yes?

I have no idea who those people are sorry, guess your egos are bigger than your reps.....

And the state of anyones annoyance is far beyond what you can ascertain from text, especially on this forum.

So i ask you, if the gain is so small, as you imply 1/1000900000th of a percent, why bother to use it?
O sorry, you coverd that, the 'reticle of your choice' well tbh klyp, changing the reticle that was implemented within the game is also negating gameplay limitations, however small you personaly see that to be. Maybe the devs intended certain lighting to restict the 'visibility' of the reticle, maybe the devs didnt want people using orange reticles. Maybe you should play the game as it was designed and not with additional 'perks' not available to the rest of the populace unless they spend additional £$ on third party software / hardware.

And anyway, 1/1000900000th of a percent is still an advantage, a casino would kick your *** out for having such an advantage.

Besides all the above, how can you in any honesty tell me that negating the HUD removal created by an EMP blast is only 1/1000900000th of a percent, come off it. Its more and you know it.

Cheating aside, it shows Petrilaiho's true colors as someone who tries to get an advantage over his opponents by doing something outside the intended scope of the game. A proven 5H1TTER.
  18. PetriLaiho

Real Time Stat Tracker is free. So is Overwolf, which also has alternative PS2 UI/Crosshair support, and is also approved by devs.

    But I did

    You sound a little mad.

All personal attacks aside, this tool is useless to people who can't aim in the first place. Someone who got dunked by a dude with a reticule wasn't gonna have the chance to be not-dunked just by taking the reticule away. It was the dude's ability to aim and to know how to shoot the gun that secured the win. Not a reticule that just magically gave the guy the ability to aim like he'd never aimed before.

Doping in sports is illegal. If it was allowed or even encouraged like in Planetside then your sentence would make sense.

Because I still kill people with headshots just fine with my hud off. If you can't even do that, then the reticule probably wouldn't be a benefit to you anyways.

    You are completely right!

He is doing everything he can to enjoy the game and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it but get mad! Start stomping your feet and burn life's house down!

TBH it's pretty much what they have done by allowing the total removal of a tactical aspect of the game by tweaking the INI ..

    And that's Smoke ..
