I have an idea. If you know you're going into a tight area to defend a point, chances are you'll run into a shotgun. Bring one or be ready to ambush someone. If you're in CQC, you shouldn't be expecting to beat a shotgun. Plain and simple.

"A shotgun can 2HKO a heavy with its shield!" Big whoop, that's 40% of its magazine IF all pellets from BOTH SHOTS hit. Also: It becomes an instagib if it's a headshot.
  2. Malsvir Vishe

Here's a couple OHKO weapons: A sniper rifle. A rocket to the head.
  3. KlyptoK

Next we need a double barrel shotgun.

After that we can add the sawed-off shotgun....

Okay, feedback for the new shotgun: Why are these here?

The original Pump action shotguns are OHK weapons. These are OHK weapons. There is no reason for these to exist. Your adding an "Upgrade" that is a distinct Downgrade because it has a much lower firing rate, which is all that matters with a gun like this. Also all it is doing is bumping the range, which is the Last thing that needs to happen with the OHK shotguns.

This thing -is- what the original Pump action should have been though, at least in reload time and whatnot. Comparatively to this, the original round of shotguns is ridiculously more powerful.

Please do not add this gun.

a sniper is one hit kill to the head and has a long reload time and is not usually semi automatic. also fires one bullet and is good at long medium range. a shotgun fires 5 -6 pellets and does massive damage at short medium range and outguns every single gun in this game. a rocket well is a rocket its expected to do lots of damage. it also only fire one slow moving projectile with a very long reload time.

shotguns need a nerf currently. maybe a faster rate of fire or faster reload with less damage but current shotgun makes this game a complete joke. its not fun playing this game when you have nano weave and over shield on and still get outgunned by a light assault with a shotgun. sorry but this isnt balanced game play. this is a one sided fight. current shotguns can 2 and 3 shot a heavy with over shield and nano weave faster than the heavy can kill the person with the shotgun.

Have to remember what the current life-cycle of every newly released gun for the past couple of them......

    Announce it...
Have people try it and find out it is OP so they all buy it in droves....
After giving the above an I win button for a couple of weeks just about until the rest of the public can buy it....
Nerf it to where it should have been in the first place....

Repeat a couple of weeks later.......

Hopefully they will use the Test server for what is supposed to be and this cycle stops now....

Surely the game has enough shotguns already? Why is this even needed

Yeah, doesn't each faction have like... four already? I don't even know the differences between them all, but I keep accidentally selecting them in VR because they look like carbines and their descriptions don't say shotgun.
  9. miraza

Nighthawk, Barrage, Haymaker, Uppercut, and now the Bruiser.

NC has an additional one in the jackhammer.

All you need was 2 shotguns, one auto and semi-auto. What is the point of adding a bunch of semi-auto shotguns? All that's going to happen is one of them is functionally better than the rest and people will use that over everything else, obsoleting the others. Who even uses the Barrage or Haymaker anymore? What's the point?

Whenever a new weapon is introduced, it should be introducing greater weapon diversity in the game, opening up new gameplay methods and new tactics. The current pump action already fills the "one shot kill, slow rof" region so the new shotgun will not add any diversity in the battlefield.

I'm just going to say that a target that takes up 10% (or more) of your screen will always be easier to hit then a target that is 20x20 pixels through a 12x scope (with countering for bullet drop and leading). That is the difference in a skill crunch weapon and a weapon that needs skill, at least BA snipers don't OHK body shots.
  12. Selerox

I was going to post a fairly lengthy post about why this was such a bad idea. But the combined posts on this thread pretty much sum it all up.

If SOE add these to the game, then they genuinely don't give a damn about the playerbase's opinions on weapon balance.

It's taken you this long to figure that out? I figured the Devs wanted to create their own sandbox to play in everyday that also gave them a paycheck and I was right.
  14. Elrobochanco

Hooray, the first set of PA are still OP bs that brings TTK to 0 and now we get ones that are even better and can do it through a shielded HA. It sure is a good thing the devs listened to the people who expressly warned against bottoming out the skill ceiling with guns that kill before latency even comes into play on the roadmap post. Oh wait no the opposite that, they won't stop making something as long as they can sell it to the players. I look forward to the day we can 1 shot maxes with a regular infantry weapon, at current power creep rate that should be late summer.

But hey it's better than orbital strikes that you could see coming

    Honestly this is probably unneeded....

Don't really care, but seems somewhat redundant.
  16. AxisO7

The problem with it is the same problem that we had/still have with the NC Max.

It's fine saying it's only better at close-range and is significantly weaker at further out, except for the fact that the vast majority of the objectives in this game (capture points and generators) are in small rooms and buildings. So the only way to actually play the objective is to go into positions where a shotgun is inherently a far superior weapon and will basically inst-kill you. So for those of us who want to actually use the more skillful weapons, we either submit and also get insta-kill point and press weapons, or we go in and regularly get killed by people using shotguns with nothing we can do about it.

The way this game is designed is that anything that is significantly superior in CQC (basically shotguns either by infantry or MAX) is over-powered.

I love shotguns. they are usefull at one range, at other range shotguner die. i dont understand those who say, shotgun ruin the game. i dont see that many shotguner on miller.....

to me it is balanced, bring more shotguns. and dont listen to nerf-whine forums.
  18. Being@RT

Well, after a short bit of testing I couldn't detect any meaningful differences between the two pumpactions.

The new one gets oneshot kills at 10m slightly more often, but neither ever requires more than two. Both kill at point blank the same.
The new one feels like the average shots required for a kill at 20m is slightly higher, though it's still 3 to 6 on both, depending on rng on the spread.

Pointless addition if shotguns were balanced, terrible now that CQC is such a dominant part of gameplay.

SMGs seem to work fine as CQC weapons despite having a worse TTK than carbines or LMGs. But if you give shotguns a similar TTK, they will not feel like shotguns anymore. Problem impossible to solve?

    ---
It's probably impossible by now, but I'd remove shotguns from infantry classes altogether, apart from underbarrel shotgun and any special weapons (Jackhammer, shotguns on NC MAXes (which will hopefully be relatively in balance after the addition of more CQC options to the other factions' MAXes)). If a normal infantry class shotgun has to stay, the semi-automatic shotguns are ok.

New pump-action shotguns = another nail in the battle rifles' coffin. Especially with the slug ammo buff that means it doesn't reduce refire rate, shotguns are now better long-range weapons than the long-range-focused battle rifles. Add that to the scout rifles in the list of redundant weapons.
Also, Vanu have the worst pump-action skins out of all 3 factions. The first set, ok, they were just re-skins of carbines. But now TR and NC get properly badass-looking shotguns and vanu get yet another minimalistic carbine reskin. I know this doesn't affect gameplay, just a personal bugbear.

The close target is MUCH faster moving. Unless you're psychic or lucky, sudden changes in direction and unpredictable movement means PA shots are more likely to miss or glance and are more forgiving. One glance and the TTK is already longer than any automatic weapon in that range (even the NS-15 LMG). It is far easier to spray with the high capacity SMG. If a PA LA and Heavy with any LMG are face to face and both react on the same time, on average the heavy will win as the shield puts him to be unkillable in a signle shot an then kill the LA before can rechamber (or giving some misses in mind, trade, but the PA can miss too). How it actually plays out depends on how they move: if the PA LA gets in the air and successfully messes up the aim of the HA, he has good chances; the HA can still try and mess up the LA aim but is less good at it (especially with shields up, but they won't be after getting hit once). And remember this is the HA with a mid-range weapon against a CQC specialist weapon.

Shotgunning is easier to get on target and kill than sniping, but it's a more risky and is in a more stressful situation. The main thing about the PA over other CQC weapons is they're totally merciless to unsuspecting players.
BR are getting a buff so hopefully that will even out. It does suck that the VS shotguns look too much like their carbines or rifles, for both the VS and enemy factions (not that it's easy to tell it by sight; sound is a better indicator normally). Scout Rifles are getting a big change to be medium ranged weapons, so they might become small capacity Gauss SAWs or something like that.
