Are you having to kite to take the mob down? With Rain Caller and stun poison, I don't have to kite a mob unless it's a 3^ heroic. In either small places or areas with lots of mobs in close proximity, this ability to stand and fire rather than needing room to run comes in quite handy for me. It also comes in very handy for mobs that either have ranged attacks or spell attacks, because if they're chain-stunned, they're not going to be damaging you.

I have been considering the Di'Zok and actually have one crafted for myself to try out when I hit 77. But I will pair it either with continued use of stun poisons, or I was looking into the Justice cloak. I've just had too many situations where tight quarters or large aggro radii made the ability to stun from ranged too valuable to me.

If all I did was solo and a better bow was 8pp I might have stuck with RC longer too. But I group more and more thanks to my friends, family and guild and the Di'Zok is now less than 1p on my server. Otoh I just got my ET so I am having a great time with it.

You have much better luck with stun procs than I ever did then. I was lucky if it went off once before the mob closed on me and it always seemed to break with the very next shot.

No I don't kite mobs, but then I don't try to take down 83^^^ heroics by myself or fight in a phone booth. I enjoy the fact that most of the Kunark zones are wide open spaces filled with more solo content than I can possibly clear. With the extra damage output of my ET combined with the 8-10 other ways I have to slow/stun/root the mobs, 9 times out of 10 they are dead before they ever get to me. And the other time I can either Point Blank shot it, back up 5 m and finish it off, or if I am lazy, just cycle through my 6 melee CAs and he is dead.

It's an accumulation of a lot of gear that isn't so hot on the dps than it is for soloing:
    1) Gloves proc a stun for 2s every 1/min
    2) Boots proc a stun for 1s every 1/min
    3) Shield has 5% for procing a stun
    4) RC proc a stun for 5s every 1.7/min
    5) Wrist proc a stun for 2s every 1/min

    6) Belt and necklace proc a 30% and 40% slow 1.5/min
I'm still looking for more but yeah, you do get unlucky streaks but I would say 90% of the mobs die before getting to me and the remaining 10% of bad rolls requires at most 2 roots before I finish them off. Heroic ^^^ on the other hand requires normal kiting and the occassion stun proc is nice so I can have some time to fire off more CAs until the stun wears off.
My best moment was being able to walk around a mob that was so chain stunned that I actually could pull off a ranged rear attack while kiting. But yeah, need some good rolls for that.

On topic: I would assume some just havn't gotten around to completing the epic, or just don't know about the better bow. The merchant for CTL is not one you'd normally walk in to. That there is another mastercrafted bow (Di'Zok) then the normal type you have at every tier may be not so known. And the FlimFlam is a quested bow where you need to do the CoM questlines. Not obvious as well. Some folks just hang around the forums and other sites and find all the info, others just play.
As for RC, I can understand wanting the stun proc. In some situations having a mob do less damage is more important then doing more damage yourself.
Off topic: For those looking for control gear, be sure to get the Cloak of Justice from the Tribunal deity quests; it has a 5 second stun: http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Cloak_of_Justice
You may also want these perhaps; 4 second stifle: http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Throatcrushers

Kite single-ups? Rarely. I can usually drop them before they close to melee. If I don't, I usually only need to sun and back up a couple feet and get off one more CA. As somebody else pointed out, I'd much rather use the damage I can depend on rather than the stun I cannot.

Ah I see, you are a solo specialist with RC being just one tool in your stun arsonal. Now for you, RC makes very good sence. Your are not depending on your bow to kill the mob, you are depending on all of your stun gear to keep it at bay and using your Ranged CAs to kill the mob. Not unlike how a Wizard solos. I commend you on your play style. Very effective. And thanks for the gear notes, I may have to put together a solo package and try it.

No need for RC as many are saying, Rangers already own at soloing on ROK. 83^^^'s heheh go play with the 85^^^'s in Skyfire, fun practice=)

I'm not 80 yet (uber casual, like 5-10 hours a week tops!) but I never even knew the Di'zok bow exsisted? When did they add that? :p Anyway, I went out and bought one, was like 2p 20g. Thanks for the heads up, and heck, if you see a noob with an old bow, let them know! I'll be using raincaller till I can use the di'zok, and maybe, someday, I'll have Eagle's Talon.

The Di'Zok Bow of Flame was added to the game on March 4, 2008 with GU43 along with a host of other player made "mastercrafted" level 77 items. It was upgraded with GU44 making it one currently of the best bows in the game, #21 on Webin's Bow list. Only a handfull of T8 Legendary and T7/8 Fabled bows are better than it.

His original list was posted before GU44 but he has included a link to his raw spreadsheet so you can download and resort it based on full T8 damage.

What a difference a week can make:
    Last Week - This Week
    Total Level 80 Rangers 105 107
    Eagle's Talon or Better 20 (18) 23 (21)
    Rigid Scale Bow or Similar 17 (13) 16 (12)
    Di'Zok Bow of Flame or Better 24 (11) 32 (18)
    "Lesser" T7 Fabled or Similar 9 (4) 7 (4)
    Other "Lesser" inc Rain Caller 14 (8) 8 (6)
Unknown or Not playing 21 21

Last Week 27% of Level 80 Rangers were using a "Lesser" T7 bow (or worse), This Week it is down to 17%. Goal for next week <10%.
Get the word out: Di'Zok Bow for the win.

Pardon my asking but do you group with other players much? When you do what kind of content do you do? Open zone heroics? Named? Instance zones? CoA? MC? Raids? Thuuga? Kor-Sha? Just curious.

I finally got my Di'zok Bow of Flame.... but I wonder if I should've just paid the plat to get it as opposed to dragging my lvl 50 adventurer/lvl 80 woodworker friend through the RoK zones just so he can get the faction to get the recipes. I guess it's a time vs plat tradeoff.
  18. ARCHIVED-ChodeNode1 Guest

Well, its worth it for him as he can now make plat off the bow.
  19. ARCHIVED-dbmoreland Guest

Ok I will conceed that there are reasons why a level 80 Ranger would want to use the Rain Caller over the Di'Zok Bow of Flame.
However I cannot understand why any level 80 Ranger would want to use a Treasured or Crafted bow, like the Skleross Poison Launcher or Outer Sebilis Vine Wrapped Longbow or any of the Pristine Imbued Mahogany Bows. Can anyone tell me how any of these bows would be more usefull than the Di'Zok? Especialy now that the Di'Zoks are going for less than 1p (at least on my server).
  20. ARCHIVED-WebinKaltani Guest

Ignorance and apathy. That's gotta be the reason people are still using those lesser bows.

I just bought a Bow of Flame this weekend, and took it down to the wall. With pure auto-attacking, it was pretty much tied in DPS (including it's proc) with my Ancestral Sarnak Bow. Some fights one was better, some fights the other. I decided to keep using the Bow of Flame because it has more favorable stats.
