Hello to all of the Decorators of Norrath! I have recently returned from a 6 month break and find I need to organize my alt army before I can even begin to play. Even though I said break, I did log on for all of the events and holidays at least once to stuff my bags full of house items to store for later use. I thought I would try Jesdyr's house organizer instead of doing it the hard way of keeping spread sheets by hand. It is a WONDERFUL program and I sooo appreciate that he created it. I am having a problem though. It won't read some house layout files. They are not old files. They are layouts that I just saved after moving bags full of stuff to a house. So far they are for Kelethin's Silver Leaf Inn, Qeynos's Inn (Castelview Hamlet door) and Everfrost Summer home. I am running the program as an administrator and I do not have multiple toons sharing the same house so layout files are not combined. Is there a trick to getting it to read all of the files? Is the program picky as to which house layouts it likes to read? Any help would be appreciated before I go and move everything to another house.
Are you using the latest version? Jes and I had to fix an issue with the house id being too big. Also, what server are you on? I might be able to look at the house and see if there are any issues with the save files
I believe it is the most recent version. I just downloaded it yesterday. It says it is version 1.0.1.2. I am on Halls of Fate server. I deleted the files for the Kelethin & Qeynos home. I still have the Everfrost home. I am going to do some more testing with alts and post what I find.
Ok I have been testing and it is beyond me. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have saved layouts for 3 different Everfrost Homes. 1 worked and 2 didn't. I saved 1 Neriak 8 Indigo Rd that was successful and 1 New Halas Manors of Erollisi that was also successful. I saved another Kelethin Silver Leaf Inn and that is not working. So I have tried the Silver Leaf Inn on 2 different toons and neither worked. I will post the two homes that are not working that I still have.

I think I figured something out. I saved a layout for a toon with an old Kelethin Silver Leaf Inn and it worked. I compared the 2 files and I think it has to do with the number of characters in the Unique House ID. The old one had 19 characters and the new ones (newly purchased houses) have 20 characters. I believe this may be the case on all of the ones not working. Sennen, you mentioned above that you and Jesdyr had to fix an issue with the house ID being too long. Am I using an outdated version or have house ID's increased in size again and something needs to be fixed?
That's exactly it, it seems. JesDyr and I maintain separate editors. In my last breakfix, I made it not care how long the House ID was (Well, as long as it's less than 1 billion characters), if I remember correctly, JesDyr made his Int64 which has a max of 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. The House ID in the first one you posted was 10,898,765,390,171,793,659. JesDyr's editor and mine are very similar in design. His does a few things mine doesn't and vise-versa. Feel free to ask me for anything that mine may need to make your designing tasks less menial in the post linked above (also stickied on the homeshow forums).
I can vouch for Sennen's program; I have JesDyr's as well, and they're both awesome at Layout Editing (haven't done the Organizer yet; Excel is still my bestie ), though they each are good at different things. Of course, when in doubt, there's always Ye Olde Notebooke Methode; to get a "list," just save the layout file, then go into your directory, open it, and save it as .txt. Clean up the scary-looking number bits (they're only 8 digit numbers, people, they won't bite your hands off...sheesh), just keep the "in the Moving Crate or not?" info, and boom, a list! Granted, not as fast, easy, or interactive, but possible. ;-> Uwk
Thank you Sennen for your help. At least I understand now why it doesn't read all of the files. I really am just using the program to sort out stuff that is stored in Dungeons and Houses to make my life easier when I need to find that special item. Also makes life easier to check on what I am running short of at Holiday time so I can stock up on more. I have never tried to use a lay out editor but it is something I am considering trying for upcoming projects. I did look at the link you provided and I also watched a couple of JesDyr's videos but to be honest it seems daunting. Question, since I only want to view home inventory at this time, does your program have that capability? Can it search various homes for a specific item? Thank you Uwkete for your reply and your idea. I used to use spread sheets to keep track of stored items but trying to make my life easier by using the Organizer program or possibly trying a layout editor if it can be used for the same purpose. After I read your post I copied a layout a file from notepad and converted it to a chart fairly easy. Then I deleted all the number columns. My only question is "false" and "true". I am assuming "false" means the item is placed and "true" means it is in the Moving Crate? I just wanted to confirm I understood that right. =)
I never updated the Organizer to fix the problem. The Unique house IDs were added to layout for its functionality. I will try to take a look tomorrow. I never put much work into that program. I started building it into the new major version of the editor, but I just didn't get it done.
Yes, there's a search bar at the top. Searches as you type. You can also Generate HTML or CSV manifests of everything in the layout file. The HTML output has links to all of the fansites.

Oh that's cool. Would you be upset if I stole some of those ideas and implemented into the open source one?
Updated the program to fix the ZoneUID issue. http://www.eq2designers.com/?page_id=256 Nope. Go ahead. this was going to built into my editor with the 1.8 version but I never got around to it.
Thank You JesDyr!!!!!! I downloaded the program this morning and it is now reading all of my house files. It does throw up an error message at first (even when ran as administrator) but once you hit continue you are good to go. I realize you no longer play EQ2 yourself so the fact that you would fix this for us is awesome! I have only been using the Organizer for a few days but I LOVE it. Thank you again so much for updating it!
I've put an initial stab into the code, but want to do some further testing at home before generating the program for usage. The code junkies can preview the upcoming layout library! I want to polish it before publishing it, though.
Just downloaded the new version, and it will only show the items in one house - the others show in the house list with number of items, but the items list shows 0 for all but one.
