Viability of a no box server

I fully understand the angst at having boxers infiltrate the "NO BOX" server. So to do my part, I am already working hard on my solution. I run 2 PC's, monitors, keyboards and mice. I have found if I toss my little dachshund a doggie treat to the right of the keyboard she'll press the heal key. Surprisingly, she does pretty well. Well, except last night when she decided to lick her butt instead of going for the treat. Sadly, I didn't make it and died, but hey we are making progress. Think I'm going to have her checked as she may have an allergy to all the dog treats I'm feeding her. I'm really hoping she doesn't go into heat on a raid, talk about drama. Considering all the messes I've already had to clean up, she's the best damned poopsocker I've ever seen. Oh, when we get to Luclin I wouldn't pick Vah Shir. She absolutely hates them and refuses to heal them. Yep, my cleric is a real !!

Well I hope it's 1 account per PC, I have 6 family members and we all like to play mages. They are often busy around the house so always use auto follow.

Who would have thought that Alamar, the guy who seems knowledgeable, would be just as immature as the people he's complaining about?

I think even if it's no box server, people will just box and just play one character in this server at a time. You'll have a server of people playing 1/2 afk, or playing 3 mages in 3 groups on three Pcs all hitting 1 button per pull, lol.

All they need to do is remove [Unmentioned 3rd Party Software] from being used on a no boxing server.

Why would they have to do that when DBG already have an agreement with both developers for each of the third party tools used for boxing to disable their tools for that server?
Both of those guys have publicly stated they will disable their tools on that server. Contrary to popular belief, neither of the third party tool devs are evil... Both of them actually love eq and just wanted some added features... The fact that some people abuse those features is another problem but you can't blame the devs for the crap other people do...

Basically DBG can sit back and watch this experiment, should, and I say that only to play the Devils advocate cause I don't believe there is anyone out there who is willing to circumvent that disablement, but let's just say there is someone out there that actually has the coding skills to bypass their block do that, then and only then would be the time to revisit making some server side or client changes, but it would be stupid to waste dev resources on that until it actually becomes an issue...

Without those tools people are gonna have to box manually, I very much doubt anyone that has the skill (and there are only a very few out there that could) would create a new boxing tool for just one server...

Like how all the naysayers are concerned enough to stop by and condemn the idea of this server's very existence. So don't play on it; what's it to you? If it flops, DB will just wipe it and turn it into a pvp, seasonal, prison server or whatever.

And after reading this, I'm seriously considering going cleric. I like eq, obsess over it, think about it when Im not playing, but I will NEVER be very good at it. Why? My sense of direction is non-existent, would't know my way around CT if I played there for weeks. Show up as a necro and can't make your way to the group, the group says "F that guy"; but a CLERIC, now that commands an escort. I'm thinking it would be a free pass to top level content, top level friends, gear, etc. Cleric= job security and a whole lot of love.

Play how you want, ubers, but your serfs, you know, the casual one or two boxers you extort for kronos for the gear you hold hostage with your soulless mage bots? They are running off the plantation! Disclaimer: I have never paid cash for a krono to trade for gear, just fully aware that it is my demographic that shamefully coughs them up.

I've dumped a lot of time in these servers but I will absolutely start over scratch on this no-boxing server if they actually pull it off. Not as a solo class, since I leveled my rogue here so far just fine without needing to box/solo.

Playing healers is no fun, especially in classic - and this is coming from a person who mained a cleric in classic. You need healers to make your well rounded groups. As being the healer is no fun, healers often migrated toward boxing - there's a whole heck of a lot you can do in that ten seconds waiting for CHeal to land. A no-box server is essentially guaranteeing no clerics are going to hang around - by the time they get any fun tools to cleric with, the server will be dead as a doorknob.

There will always be boxers.

That being said, I would love to play a necro again...But only if the server opened with kunark at least.

I love when bind wound and later when items with even +1 regeneration were godly good.
But I mean no one is making people play on the server.

Go all "doomsday is upon us; it won't last a month" if you want. Heard it all before. But i think its beneficial for dbg to try new things to see what a core of your loyal customers want. Better than the former company waiting years and years.

When you say healers I assume you mean clerics exclusively. Shaman and druids were always very well equipped to solo if they couldn't find a group.

If anything it will be easier to group on this server because /gasp you actually have to now instead of boxing the entire game alone.

Do you have any link? If it is true this new server looks much more interesting and I will actually resubscribe and play there. I do not care about boxing but those softwares is what killed the game for me on TLP.

Exactly. While druids and shamans are fine as group healers now, they're not in classic and they're necessary for raiding. Well, someone running a cheal chain is.

No-box server would be great. I think the cleric should be tinkered with though. Give them the option of playing a battle cleric or healing cleric depending on what the need of the group is. It will make them more popular.

You could even offer cleric mercs on such a server, to but their availability should be restricted to almost-full groups and their effectiveness lowered.

Catching boxers is pretty easy to do I don't think that would be an issue.

Bottom line is... Both devs are onboard.

They should make the no-box server straight progression without the time lock and voting. That would make it the most popular progression server for at least a year.
