On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Coirnav is being merged onto Vox, and any characters you have on Coirnav will be accessible from Vox. To complete this work, there will be up to 12 hours of downtime beginning at 6:00 a.m. PDT (1300 UTC) for all EverQuest servers. Please note that this is also the date of the Live Update which will be included in the scheduled downtime.

In order to have the merge go as smoothly as possible, below is a short list of changes you can expect as well as a brief list of answers to some of the questions you may have. If we receive more questions about the merging process, the FAQ section below will be updated accordingly.

    Naming Conflicts
If, as a result of the server merge, two or more characters have the same name, the conflict will be resolved as follows:
    • The player who has logged into their character within 60 days before the merge will retain the original character name. If there is still a conflict, the character with the highest number of minutes played will retain the original character name.
    • The renamed character will have additional vowels (or 'x') added to the end of their name and be flagged for a free rename. Characters who have been renamed can open the rename window to pick a new name with /changename chat command.
    Guild Transfers
    • Guilds and guild halls will remain intact after the merge.
    Real Estate
    • Real estate will merge completely onto the new server.
    • Neighborhood names may change in the event of duplicate names.
    Banks
    • All items in your regular bank will be transferred completely.
    • Shared bank items from Coirnav will appear in the item overflow window on Vox.
    • Shared bank platinum from Coirnav will be combined into your shared platinum on Vox.
    Overflow Items
    • If your account has any overflow items on Coirnav or Vox, they will be in the item overflow window on Vox.
    Dragon’s Hoard
    • Dragon’s Hoard items will go with your character to Vox.
    Overseer
    • Overseer agents, experience, stats, and active quests from both servers will be combined.
    • Incapacitated agents will be recovered after the merge.
    Account-wide Achievements
    • Any Account-wide achievements obtained on Coirnav but not on Vox will be added to Vox.
    • If any Account-wide Achievements were obtained on both servers, the earliest date achieved of the two will be kept.
    Tradeskill Component Depot
    • Tradeskill Component Depot items will go with your character to Vox.
    • If after the merge, the number of items in your Tradeskill Component Depot exceeds your maximum item count, you will only be able to withdraw items until dropping back below that cap.
    Universal Chat
    • EverQuest’s Universal Chat system uses a separate database undergoing its own merge. After the server merge, Universal Chat may not be available immediately. As soon as its merge is complete, Universal Chat will be turned back on.

    Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Will there be free character transfers off the servers before the merge?
A: Free transfers off of Coirnav were allowed starting on April 19, 2023 and will continue to be active until the merge is complete. Use the /servertransfer command if you would like to go to a different server (or go to Vox early).

Q: What will the server be named after the merge?
A: Since Coirnav is merging with Vox, Vox will be its name.

Q: If I only have 8 character slots available on my account, but after the merge I now have 12 characters on the server, what happens? How is it determined which characters I can access?
A: If, after the merge, your account has more characters on Vox than you have access to, the characters you cannot access will be grayed out in the character select screen. Characters are selected to fill the slots starting with the most recently logged in characters first. Characters created after the start of Free-To-Play are limited to the number of slots available due to membership level and purchased slots. Characters created before Free-To-Play are always available.
    • You can regain access to disabled characters by subscribing if you are Free-To-Play, purchasing additional character slots, or deleting characters from the un-grayed portion of your list.
Q: What happens if there are guild name conflicts?
A: This very rarely occurs, and we currently do not see any guild name conflicts between Coirnav and Vox. If, however, there is a conflict, GM discretion takes over for a final decision. The guild with a forced name change will have “of Servername” appended to their name and the guild rename flag will be enabled. (In exceptional cases, an X will be added to the end of the guild’s name.)

When utilizing the free server transfers are we limited to the same 8 transfers in 180 days rule as noted here for normal transfers? What if we have more than 8 characters on Coirnav that we don't want to end up on Vox?

Something that needs to be addressed by daybreak is when you have all of the character slots filled on both servers, it is not fair to lose characters because of this. Since every progression server is now after the free to play conversion, it leads to lost characters.

The obvious solution is for daybreak to let all characters exist, regardless of character slot cap.

Beyond that, please stop merging into vox.

This has been happening since the first Live server merges, who "lost characters" ... well before TLP mergers were a thing. Nothing was addressed back in '05 ... I'm not sure what you expect from a merge that you knew in advance was going to happen at some point.

It does suck to lose access to characters. But you have had free transfers to any Live server to alleviate any potential issue you would have to face. We didn't get that back in '05 and the next round of moves.

Do unused Quest Rewards transfer with the character or disappear?

That information is out of date, it appears the only limit on character transfers is you cannot transfer the same character a second time until 24h have elapsed. Please correct me if this is not the case.

Although it would be nice, we can't leave the other servers up while two are merged. All EQ servers share the same set of databases, and we can't run complex DB queries while other servers are running without great risk of having those servers go down.

Unclaimed quest rewards are regular character data, which will go with you in a server merge.

guess nobody remembers the big server merge years ago where EQ was down for almost a month still not sure why all other servers have to go down if its only them 2 merging.

I'd heard about this a long time ago, but wasn't sure if this was still the case.
Seems like bit of an architectural hindrance. Any plans to redesign this in the foreseeable future?

The only time the servers have been down longer than 2 days was during the data breach.
