Turning on trophy tribute will attach nearly all the benefits they grant to your character permanently as long as you remain in the zone. Turning off trophy tribute will adjust the numbers in your UI and save you tribute favor however in-game calculations will use the hidden stats granted by your trophies.

Removing the trophies from your Active Trophy Benefits window will not remove their benefits. If you activate another set of trophies the benefits from those will overwrite the previous set so you cannot stack more trophies than you otherwise would be allowed.

If you die and get resurrected the trophy benefits will still be in effect. Leaving the zone is the only way to fully remove them.

    Reproduction/Proof:
    1. Remove all equipment and buffs. You want 0 heroic stats and in particular 0 melee shielding.
    2. Go and attack a high level monster from range and be sitting when it hits you so you take maximum damage. Make a note of this damage amount.
    3. Repeat Step 2 but with a trophy that grants heroic stamina active. Mortal's Ethereal Wonder was used because it only grants heroic statistics. The trophy will give you ranks of melee shielding which will reduce the damage you take from the hit. Make a note of how hard you were hit this time.
    4. Repeat Step 2 but this time activate the trophy and then turn it off. Your stat screen will show you as 0 heroic stats and 0 melee shielding but the damage you take will be the same as step 3 when you had the trophy active.
Depending on your tradeskill level you can also confirm this by trying combines that have a required minimum skill level to be able to attempt them. If you require the tradeskill modifier from a trophy to reach the needed skill level then this is a simple way to check.

    Immortality.
Don't get too excited, it's limited. You cannot die to environmental damage.

Most trophies grant health and when you turn them off that health has got to go somewhere. Any health granted by trophies will go after the health limit you'd normally die at. So if you'd normally die at -100 but had 1000 health worth of trophies deactivated you'll now die at -1100 health.

Environmental damage will only hurt you if you're in your normal health range. Using the -100 health normal death limit from above, lava would do damage to you every second from full health down to -100. Once you're below -100 health it won't do any further damage until you regen above -100 at which point it'll immediately damage you again.
This cycle will repeat indefinitely and if your trophy health pool is large enough you'll never be able to die from this.
If you cannot regen from your normal death limit to positive health in one tick you'll never regain consciousness and end up trapped, unable to move and unable to /quit. Without outside intervention you'll need to force close the game to escape. When logging back in your trophy benefits will have been removed and you'll die instantly.
Does this work against DoTs? No, DoTs will continue doing their damage.
Does this work against monsters? No, monsters will continue attacking you when you're lying unconscious in the trophy health bubble.
Can this be used to increase your survival at low health by turning off trophies and gaining an extra health pool? No, your health will update using how far away you were from real death as the starting point. If you were at 300 health and had 1000 health from trophies activated, turning trophies off would instantly put you at -700 health and unconscious.

What benefits does a deactivated trophy grant?
Confirmed: Health, skill modifiers, spell damage, heal amount, heroic stats and all the modifiers that they provide.
Negative: Mana and endurance (there might be a hidden pool but you can't use it).
Unknown: Armor and anything else not listed.

Guild trophies are untested so everything in here might also apply to them.

Regular tribute doesn't follow the above rules, however every AFK auto-attack parse (about 25-30 minutes each) shows a higher than base (but lower than regular Tribute ON) amount of damage. That could just be a coincidence or there might also be something there.

Did you wait the 10minutes after turning trophies off ?
