I've had this issue on two of my characters. The trade kits..i.e. Spell Research Kit, Deluxe Sewing Kit, Reinforced Jeweler's Kit and my Collapsible Fletching Kit will only open to the Experiment Window. This happens intermittently. I used my Spell Kit a couple days ago and my Jeweler's kit as well and they were working perfectly. I could get to my known recipes. I have even had this issue with a Shaman character and their Medicine bag. I have tried making a new Reinforced Medicine Kit but had the continued issue. Additionally, logging does not fix it and it can sometimes last a few days. Has anyone noticed this issue?
Found that there is a settings option that if you check the box it requires a CTRL Right Click to open them. /facepalm. Sorry .
