Thx for answer and offer. My prob apears to be z fighting.

Made posts here before, didnt get any answers (that helped).
Had an old system back then, got a new one now - same prob even tho the new system has no parts of the old one build in, i did not copy any files, yada yada. Kinda a curse.
Unfortunately your - deffo good - guide does not solve my prob.

I PMed JChan and am pressing thumbs.

    What is z fighting?

So z fighting is that flicker on the wall? Oh, I just chalk that stuff up to the same group as things like people's shields entering the floor when the sit and similar things and ignore it.

I just figure it is a limitation of the graphics engine. There might be some settings you can change that help, I guess.

Have you tried toggling on / off Use Advanced Lighting?

I have this also in PoK, just ignoring it...

The video Stubar linked does indeed show z-fighting, but to a very small degree. If that was my only problem, i wouldnt care. This shows it more in detail (switch to full screen) and see the flickering around wrists, waist and head area (hairs):

Compared to the flickering / z fighting i deal with, the issues shown in the video are minor - at best.

    Background:
The "flickering" is called Z-fighting and it's a problem all 3D engines have to cope with. The farther you get from 2 surfaces where one is in front of another, the harder time the engine has to figure out which one should be in front of the other, until due to rounding imprecision, they both occupy the same spot and randomly flicker between rendering the two surfaces.

"It has most likely been an issue from the start of EQ, and it's certainly not an issue for Luclin models, but it has gotten worse over time. Consider that original EQ models don't have any overlapping / layered parts to their models, so Z-fighting can't occur and so measures to prevent Z-fighting likely weren't even built into the engine. On Luclin models you have bits of armor layered on top of the body, and the hair is a model plopped over a bald head, so when you get far from a Luclin model (or in the case of the screenshots and videos, not THAT far) the armor and body underneath fight over what should render, and the hair and scalp fight over what should render. If you want to see Z-fighting occur on world geometry (instead of a player / NPC model) find a banner draped in front of a wall and get far away from it (while still looking at it) and the same flickering rendering should occur.I'd bet the last time it actually got worse was ~OoW when they changed over to DirectX 9. I suppose it's not impossible that the new dynmaic texture-loading system could've had them messing with parts of the rendering engine that could accidentally have made Z-fighting worse; I just think that's more of a long-shot."

On my quest for solution (being aware that this cant be solved client side my "solution" would have been to lessen / soften the flickering as much as poss) i went through tons of links, tried various ideas

    - gfx settings (every little toggle there is per trail and error method),
    - drivers (gfx, board, and whatnot),
    - memtested,
    - forced / unforced AA / dx9.0c / andthelikes
    - played with different antivirus software,
    - you name it.

As my old PC was garbage anyway, i got me a new system a few weeks back - problem remains, even tho its fresh installed, no data copied over.

    JChan´s answer from yesterday:
Its an "ancient" issue with those models and there really isn't anything than can be done about it client side. Much of is it lost tech and source and it would take a large amount of time to crawl through and find the correct source to fix it. Unfortunately, since it's such an old issue we haven't really gotten it on anyone's list to even start the research.

    I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer.

Thanks for contacting us though and providing the video, it made it much quicker and easier for me to see and identify the issue!

Thx to those offering help here and thx to JChan !
My prob remains unsolved, but at least my quest has come to an end :).
