Newb Monk Wep Advice On Phinny

Hello,
I've managed to get to L 17 on my Monk on the Phinny server and am using dropped (poor) weapons. I have saved all my platinum and would appreciate suggestions on what weapons I should try to buy and where I might be able to buy then. I don't know much about Monks and hope to greatly improve my ability to kill monsters.

Use your fists, monks do not need any weapons. You're handicapping yourself using those "poor" dropped weapons.

There are a lot of Kunark monk weapons around, and they're not much in demand because fists are pretty good. But they might be worth using at lower levels. If you want to compare, try looking up "EQ monk fist damage tables" and do a little research yourself. Or maybe a monk can post a good link about it.

In most cases, bare fists are better than anything you can camp yourself or kill with a level appropriate group. If you can buy something like a master wu's or a smoldering brand etc at very low levels, they can be significantly better than fists for a while. But by the time you can camp yourself a master wu's trance stick, or a fighting baton, or whatever, you're better off not using them. At 50+ that changes a bit but you still have to pay attention to the ratios and bare fists will fare better than a lot of stuff even still, especially with epic.

Where does 2hb factor into this? With no epic are IFS/Tstaff/peacebringer better ratio then fists?

Get a wus quivering staff at least to keep 2hb up 23/28 don't know when fists will beat it dual wielding prolly around 30. They go for about 250p.

From monkly-business. Better off to use some weapons until roughly 40 or so. Quivering Staff is a good place to start, or if you have some plat/krono available, a Peacebringer would be great until you get an epic, into your 50s etc.

SoS, Tstaff, IFS, Peacebringer should all be better then fists till epic
Knuckle dusters should be better then fist from till 42 and better main hand KD with fist offhand till 55.
DW Wu's should till 27 and then better mainhand with fist off till 38 or 42 depending on the proc rate.

The Monkly business 38 delay tables are accurate for TLPs, yours are not.

Grug's weapon info is exactly what the OP needed. A level 17 saving up bone chips and spider silks should be able to afford a couple Wu sticks

A level 17 could probably save up and afford wu's sticks but they won't be better than fists for very long. Fists are almost even at 23 and a better ratio starting at level 27, and the wu's don't proc till level 35 iirc, so by the time that factors in fists are blowing them away in overall dps. They are way overpriced because people don't realize this. IMO better to save your money for a stave of shielding, which goes for around the same price as 2xwu's but will last you till epic.

Iksar Fists are 38 del and I believe Human fists are 37 delay on TLPs. I imagine we'll switch over to the Live damage charts at some point, but not for a while.

SoS is a solid damage / delay weapon...one of the best available in kunark. There's some other sorcery when it comes to damage bonuses and your level, but you'll parse near the top with them until you get your epic.

When you get epic, do you DW fists or still keep an offhand like SoS?

Get some Bone Fingered Gloves that drop off a warboned monk in Lava Storm. Its a fairly common drop so goes real cheap or even free, easy to get. This makes your hands a magic weapon for those mobs that require such (wisps etc) a bit of dex to boot. Saves some weight the weapons would take up also.

Now just go about your monkly biz till you find much better, yeah I would stick with H2H for a long while and keep banking the plat till later. Dont sweat the min/maxers that would have you jumping from one weapon to the next ad nauseum.

Fists don't get dmg bonus. So weapons that have nearly equal ratios will remain better in main hand. SoS is for sure the best weapon to get if you can afford one because it remains useful for the proc even after epic. IFS is probable the best priced weapon for mid 40s to 60 grind though, assuming you're a monk main first toon kinda deal. For twinking these weapons are worth it.

The table Bobjones quoted is the epic h2h. It's unlikely any weapons will outdps them before PoP, Gharn's might, but nothing from Kunark. Things like Primal/SoS for the proc.

The table bignheavy typed is correct.

As for epic, it drops your fists down to 26 delay.

You should not use any weapons but fist until you get Vulak fist

What is BiS and IFS? I'm new and don't have all the acronyms down yet.
Also on your 2 hander, what would you recommend L 21-30?
