Until players complained merc AI was sitting there curing the group instead of healing the tank, so now we are here.
Not ideal but I think I'd prefer to handle something like this via buff blocking rather than not having the option. Certainly a merc should switch to curing outside of combat?
The tank, rogue, and caster mercs are all basically set'em and forget'em. The cleric merc, however, needs some sort of interface to give the player just a bit of control. They need to be told what to prioritize.
You can block spells on a cleric merc to prevent them from casting them. They are easily the most powerful of the mercs (because you can bring out 2 of them and their effectiveness stacks). They have 2 stances that tell them what to "prioritize" If you want more versatility bring an actual healer along on your groups. Sure they aren't as "fun" as dps classes but throw the real healers a bone and let them actually be needed in groups...
