It should be 2 orcs/4 orcs/4 orcs + boss. Every time we have done this we have gotten 4/8/4+boss then shortly after another 4+boss. This is with a single person clicking the crystal to spawn the event. There have been others there with the crystal to spawn it but only one person clicks each time.
Its a solo task, how close are the other players standing that are at the same step when its triggered? Its fairly typical for solo tasks to trigger on each person, you have to manage it by proximity.
There are a lot of "solo" tasks that will update a step for everyone in the group that has the task and is at that point. That sounds like what is happening here.
The first step is to click a crystal to spawn the orcs. One person clicking = double orcs. You guys are correct that if multiple people click you will get even more. But one person clicking still means double orcs. As a work around we've had 2 people click, zone out, wait for despawn, then a 3rd person click so that you only have to do it once. Even though person 1 and person 2 and 3 are on the same step now you only get one set of orcs (which is doubled). But in any scenario you get double the orcs if only one person clicks.
People did chain this task to exp on Phinigel years back but I remember it was patched. This double spawn is a different issue.
