How to make the price of Krono Rise On Agnaar using Simple Psychology and Economic Theory

Hey everyone, someone mentioned in a previous thread that the majority of the KSing and general BS that is happening on the server is due to people trying to farm specific items for cash. Keep in mind that players are no longer trapped behind one guild capitalizing all of the raid content due to instances, and that all raid content can just be zerged down, you really don't need pre-raid BiS gear in order to succeed. But most people will still buy items, so here's an easy way to control a market in order to boost the prices of krono, so that hopefully it disincentivizes people who don't care about the long term health of the server will stop taking a massive dump on it in the short term. Keep in mind that you may need the help of your guild in order to pool resources, or you could just drop a couple hundred dollars. This is also significantly easier if you have a very solid krono pool as well as a platinum pool. The more resources you have, the easier it is to control and manipulate a market.

Step 1: Always have at least 2 accounts selling krono. Have 1 to multiple accounts always sell significantly higher than the going price. Why? Because this distorts players perceptions of the value of a given krono. It's normally going for 1k but someone is selling for 2.5k? The reason behind this is because players are getting the psychological squeeze that the value of krono is going to go up, and sooner rather than later, on both the sellers and the buyers side. You are speeding up this natural process. If people are willing to buy it at this price, great! Sell em, buy them at a lower cost, and rinse repeat.

Step 2: Have your main seller sell at a higher middleground than the going price. Say, 1.5-1.8k versus 1k. Your price will now seem more reasonable in comparison. It will take more time to sell your stuff, but at the same time plat is very, very, very, very easy to farm from just playing the game. You can also tell other players that you've been easily selling krono at your given price, and if you convince 1-2 more people to sell higher (or just have some guildies to help you), it's significantly easier to make this rise happen. Most players price their krono based off of what they see the going rate is in that moment, and plat is easy enough to farm where paying 1.5k versus 1k isn't that hard of a sell.

Step 3: As prices inch up, always adjust your middle ground and high ground prices. Realistically you don't really even have to SELL any krono, but just have to give the perception that the value of a krono is always going up, and that people are buying it at that price. I would actually advise against selling krono as you are boosting the prices upwards, since there are plenty of people with deep pockets who want to keep the price low (some have 100s-1000s of kronos in order to control prices and keep them low, and could easily buy up a small stock).

Remember that in order to keep prices low, a few players that never buy krono from DBG are trying to convince everyone else that the price is lower so that they can get them more easily. Your job is to convince the people who buy krono from the DBG store that it is worth more.

Alternatively, you can lower the price by doing the same thing in reverse, but you normally need to have more resources and actually sell some of your krono in order to bring the prices down. It's really interesting to see the prices either jump 1-3k within a few days, or plummet within a week.

Anyway, I hope this helps. Please keep in mind that realistically it takes about 20-40 minutes in a decent spot in order to get 1k at level 50.

I find it funny how the price of Krono actually dropped today. Yesterday there was no way to get one below 1100p, now there are multiple selling it at 900 - 1k, picked up a few myself.

Whereas there is no doubt the price of Kronos will increase, give it time. Do you really want Kronos to be going for 100k+ like it is on Ragefire?

Don't try to reason with these people. They are completely ignorant to everything around them. They think that trying to raise krono prices will get rid of the farmers and RMT'ers when it's actually the opposite. The ONLY people who benefit from high krono prices are RMT'ers. The only people who benefit from low krono prices are casual players. You see on every TLP the rmt'ers trying to increase krono prices for this very reason. High krono prices lead to permanently controlled camps.

Can you tell me what this magical spot is at 50 you can make 1k in 20 minutes

Come on, this is EQ... You don't? At least, some of the time?

There are also people claiming that the best RMT krono farmers are regularly making $100+ an hour with their 2 box setup farming the efreeti camp. Considering third party sites are buying krono from RMT individuals for between $7 and $9.50, this fictional high income could only happen if they were able to clear multiple picks, the efreeti was up every single time, and several rings dropped.

Anyone who has ever camped the efreeti, or any named mob, is well-aware that it's more common to get the PH than the named.

People spamming outrageous prices are generally ignored, not factored into the potential price of an item. Krono is cheap on this server -- because the monsters don't drop as much platinum (duh.) It's amazing how many people here don't seem to understand this. It's about platinum scarcity. Monsters drop more platinum and Kunark = Krono goes up. And that will happen for every single expansion. By the time its PoP...it would be very easy to get thousands of platinum from a simple 4 hour farm session. Currently, you need to farm all day with the right class to get a couple thousand. This is why its 1k a krono...you can just go to work and make better farm.

There is always a small number of loopholes professionals know about to get far more pp than anyone normally ever could. One example is botting easy mobs on a lot of computers. During some of the first TLPs -- people made insane Krono from being the only people with research. But if you are just killing seafurries on a mage...its going to take a lot more than a day to get more than a few Krono.

Krono's are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

If this method increases the actual cost of Krono, than Krono were being sold for too cheap to begin with.

This has been the basis for all economic systems since the introduction of trade goods.

There are so many better ways to make plat and krono than farming BAM and GEB.

There are players that benefit from having lower krono prices, and players that benefit from having higher krono prices. The fact that prices have been pushed lower means than several people are actively trying to keep it low. If you push prices higher, you are pushing people who can easily farm platinum into specific camps for items that retain their value. IE, Efreeti and lower guk camps. It's significantly easier to farm platinum consistently versus competing for these camps. Because camps have to actively be managed with competition it's significantly harder.

Realistically if you can box an AoE group, there are several camps that are very lucrative, or alternatively just sitting there and having classes on auto-farm with /tell audio triggers while you work your desk job. Anything that drops $$ or items to sell (Hill Giants, Seafuries, anything that drops Fine Steel consistently/always, etc). Alternatively, people who craft can make a decent killing if krono prices remain low, like Pottery, /Jewelry.

Some people would rather farm a game versus work, even if it's not cost effective to do so, so that argument is a moot point anyway. We don't play games to be productive.

Markets are based off of perception, pure and simple. You can change that perception in a variety of ways to YOUR advantage. Obviously people are actively doing this right now to try and retain a low price. Most likely these people are not actively putting new krono into the market (IE, people who buy them for $18.00 from the store), but are using their given stash to keep prices low so they can easily buy "new" krono. The fact that after this post that the price DROPPED versus rose just confirms that.....

Is it stupid that people are attempting to control a given market in a game? No. People can do what they want if that's what they enjoy, and the economy is part of the game. Is it stupid to point out how market forces work and why they are being used the way they are?

At its core, this topic is pay-to-win(ners) attempting to manipulate the market so that they pay-to-win more. Simply put, you're a pay-to-win(ner), and It's a buyer's market on buying krono for plat. Especially earlier on in these expansions where the toal amount of plat in circulation is much smaller than several months in.
