Recently, many characters are experiencing the inability to read or write into general chat. These are All Access characters, and it isn't because chat is down because guildmates and alt accounts don't have the same problem. General chat doesn't even show up in the window menu as an option - just the class option. This started with the last large patch (two patches ago).
Is it possible that the General channel is full and when you zone, it just doesn't add you to that channel? That happened to me a couple of nights ago. I noticed that two of my toons were no longer in General, and when I looked at the other one, I saw that it showed General (400), which meant nobody else could join. I had to manually join General on the others when the population dipped a bit.
The chat server seems... eccentric. Sometimes, if General is at 400 it'll deny the existence of any further child channels and at other times it'll happily auto-generate General1, General2 and General3.
