As the title says. I have received two cloth caps. 1 in Gribble's first mission and one in his second. Sure would have been nice to have the rare item this was supposed to be. Anyway I can trade them in please? Prath can you please take a look at loot tables again? Thanks!
yes and ethernere items are dropping in heart of fear I don't think it is high on the list of thing sadly but it is annoying still
Last official comment I saw on the issue was one of the devs asking which mobs were dropping the caps. Apparently, mob treasure tables are not something that can be batch parsed to find "cloth cap"/item ID.
Since CotF was released, I have seen Cloth Caps drop in Missions. I have seen them drop in static zones. I have seen them drop from named spawns. I have seen them drop from trash spawns. I have seen them drop in CotF zones. I have seen them drop in HoF zones. I have seen them drop in VoA zones. This leads me to believe that whatever item/items are suppose to be dropping, they are NOT CotF specific drops.
Cloth caps serve the same purpose that the "Doug" human model does: When something fails, a Cloth Cap is dropped instead of what is supposed to drop. Just as you will see the "Doug" human model when the proper model NPC is broken. So, no, they can't just search for "Cloth cap" in loot tables. They have to look at the loot tables and discover the bug. This might entail searching all the mobs' loot tables looking for errors. Depending on how it is set up, this might be a long, boring, labor intensive type of job usually shoved off onto interns or low ranking staff... of which EQ might have none. Now, a proper set up would post to an error_log file whenever the loot table fails and a cloth cap is produced. So it could be tracked down that way. But with the ancient EQ spaghetti code held together with duct tape and sealing wax (and bailing wire), who knows? All of the above is just a guess, of course. Only her hairdresser the Devs know for sure.
Not this silly excuse again....it is as old as the "ancient" code base of EQ. It is simply a lame excuse to cover for failing to have a staff of developers improve the overall code base...
Had this happen to me in Neriak II - The King's Court HA yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't think to write the mob name down. Original speculation was that the cloth caps were supposed to be the purity augs, however, I had one of those drop in the new HAs so I don't think that is the case anymore. Mobs have been dropping level appropriate TS items, cash loot, and other "normal" stuff. It seems the cloth cap drop is rather rare (for me at least) so perhaps that could help narrow it down.

They started dropping when the new higher-level tradeskill stuff like cloth bolts, leather rolls, steel ingots, etc. were added. It's got to be related to that somehow. Also, I got a halloween-themed hat ornament to drop in a Dead Hills mission earlier today. That was amusing.
Would be a cool idea to remove the old cloth cap item without telling anyone, then putting a vendor up where you trade in your cloth caps for gear, or even currency. Wouldn't fix the issue, but would remove the awful feeling of getting total junk instead.
I thought these were a joke referring to the original "caster loot" in Sleeper's Tomb back in the day.
Just had one drop off a creeping mushroom in The Hills Are Alive heroic adventure. Did an in-game /bug as well.
