Cleric and Bard to team with your Warrior for raid boxes. The rest of the group can basically be any DPS you want.

Honestly - there's a couple things to consider:

    1. Are you using any "software" or are you alt/tabbing?
    2. How do you want to play? Normal groupage? Charming?
    3. What are your goals? Farming / Camping namers / Easy travel?
    ...
My favorite Utility 6-box would be:
WAR / CLR / DRU / ENC / MAGx2 - Solid dps, SoW, snare, rez, clarity, CC, slows, and ports.
    ...
If you want to just go straight DPS I would go:
WAR / DRU / Magx4 - Some heals, a bit of utility, and serious DPS. Will likely require Conc / C pots.
    ...
Feel free to sub out a mage or two if you use "software".

I've been brainstorming/gathering feedback on a 6 box for a few days now, although im only looking for mine to last till luclin or so then i'll make some changes probably after.

Kinda depends if you want to push mini raid targets/old raid stuff or not, or if you just want tons of dps.

Not having a chanter (until after GoD) is leaving tons of dps on the table, not to mention all the other obvious benefits of a chanter. I wish they weren't so required, but it is what it is. If you're unwilling to charm (its not that hard using a audio trigger for breaks, and a couple macros) then ignore.

I'd want access to my own ports until luclin at the very least, so I include a wiz or dru. Mages are great early box dps, and having coth kunark+ is handy. Cleric tends to be the best priest option overall, and gives you rez.

Alot of boxers i've been talking to swear by bard, which is probably true for the long haul, but i'm not convinced a bard is worth the slot until after luclin. I'm trying to figure this point out myself atm. So for you, you probably want one.

So this ends up looking like War/Clr/Enc/Wiz/Mag/Brd. You could swap the wiz for a druid if you wanted backup heals, but it's a decent dps loss overall. You could drop the mage for something if you wanted, but it's pretty useful, not required though. If you don't want to charm, and don't want to box melee dps, which is a pain, you'd need to stack mages to get decent dps, probably.

Oh, and this is assuming you're using something that lets you broadcast keystrokes or otherwise play your boxes easily.

Necro, necro, necro, necro, necro, necro All can fd, dot and tap...not much is going to beat those dots. the calculation of the kill goes to who does the most damage. Dots get the full calculation of their damage, even if they hit 1 sec before the mob dies. All that pet damage is a bonus

I did this on ragefire - it's actually pretty fun. The biggest benefit is that you can kill red con mobs galore because you can easily stack the huge -resist fire dots and taps. Mana regen is insane across the board, and if you pull too many - oops - mass FD! The last resort is you have necro rez if those FDs fail. You also don't even need any gear!

Brother is trying to convince me to come back for this set after I went to EQ2 from the Coirnav implosion.

Boxed on Coirnav, main setup was originally Bard, Enchanter, Cleric, Shaman, Wizard, Monk.

Biggest thing I learned is if I am wanting to open up possibilities of doing more challenging content, need to change to a real tank and he is probably going to change up from Paladin to SK at launch.

If I were to do it over again knowing what I know now, Would probably do the classic Warrior, Cleric, Bard, Enchanter, Wizard, Magician and he would probably do at the very least SK, Shaman, Wizard, Magician - with a secondary Enchanter to do AE'ing.

Enchanter will definitely be the bees knees for the first few expansions, usually top DPS with charm pets as well as all the utility they bring - The Mage or Shaman can help with resist debuff line on the charm pets to help reduce chance of break each tick.

The warriors being able to use the damage mitigation and taunt will help to keep agro generated from charm off of the enchanter, hopefully.

War / Brd / Shm / Ber / Mnk / Clr. If you’re planning on going to DoN, you can pretty much put whatever in the Ber spot up to gates, but dump it for Ber at that point. The Shm/Brd 1.5/2.0 combo with a melee stack is ridiculous dps, and you’ll absolutely destroy group content. Could go 2 Ber instead of monk/ber. That group combo would carry you through tbs pretty easily, before caster groups really come back in strong in the 80s.

Best 6 box is you can possibly have is you and 5 other players

Going by TLP's in the past there shouldn't be a shortage of people to group with (so no hanging about), so why worry about boxing when the server opens. Save boxing for when numbers start to drop off i.e. when the next TLP ratwheel is announced.

If you don't want to group, why play a MMO?

It really comes down to your goals?

When I 3 boxed on Agnarr, outside of raids, I had a goal that I wanted to see what I could do as far as old raid content. But if my goal was to do group content, my trio could be radically different.

Assuming you just want the most powerful group and able to kill old raids, from my experience I would have always liked a warrior (cannot trump defensive) and a shaman (malo) for their slows which really move ahead of the pack post-pop.

So, I think the real power staple would be War, Clr, Shm, Brd, then you can fill these slots in with personal favorites, but those 4 set your group up in a good way.

He's specifically choosing the boxing server... presumably to box.

I would imagine he wants to box because he either hates people or he needs the flexibility to make progress on his own time.
  12. Silver-Crow Augur

Just because you can box, doesn't mean you have to :D.

There's never a shortage of people when a new server opens, so it just seems very odd to start a full 6 box group from the get go.

Strikes me as kind of boring if everyone on the server just social distances and never groups with each other.

Perfect world - OOC LFG, get picked up and enjoy some play time with some folks or friends, hopefully at a decent camp for a good amount of time - everyone rolls appropriately for loot that drops.

Realistic world - Get off of work after a 12 hour+ shift, sit LFG and hope a spot is available within 10 minutes since you really only have two hours to play that day. Finally get into a group with a tank that Leroy Jenkinnnnnns into every room with poo gear and wonders why the healer cannot keep him alive as he switches targets and keeps breaking mezz. Caster only item drops and he decides to need on it for an alt.

I'd rather do my own thing on a day to day basis and then group up for raids with actual people and guild mates.

Boxing in EQ is a fairly unique and engaging experience. It has a skill-cap that can only be approached through intense focus, multi-tasking and strategy. Pretty much everyone here has spent years grouping in a few MMOs with the same gameplay loops and boxing has something very different for players.

automated bot programs...here comes the skill police
  16. Hinastorm86 Augur

Because sitting LFG on a non-meta class for hours sucks. Cause being able to afk whenever you want is good. Being able to make better plat/krono is good. Being reliant on just yourself and not the rng of crappy groups is good.

Forgive me for being blunt, but you lack critical thinking skills.

How else would you do it on a box server?

Pro tip: Buy the SoW potion from the store as soon as you get your crew gathered up. Four hours of SoW.
  18. Pumpernickel Lorekeeper

    sk/brd/rog/rog/rog

I don't think I'll ever do the bot thing (never say never?) but on a box server where it is not against the rules, I certainly don't criticize of fault someone who does.
