  1. Jumbur Improved Familiar

Question regarding the whole hero's forge concept:
Is DBG legally bound to never change the looks of cosmetic items retroactively after they have been sold? Will they get sued, if they update the player models in such a way, that hero's forge items changes looks retroactively?

I mean, even minor improvements to the lighting algorithm, might change the look drastically of some of the expensive hero's forge armor... is DBG forced to refund the buyer in such a situation?
  2. Wyre Wintermute I'm just a butterly dreaming I'm a man

They are not. It's in their EULA/ToS that they can make changes at any time to anything and that's that.

As Wyre Wintermute notes, no legal obligation, however they would be more likely to issue a 'new' version with the changes, not to make more money but to assuage all those who would come out of the woodwork demanding they get a refund for their old one being "ruined". Yes, there would be complaints about not getting the new one for free (and accusations of it being a money grab), but it would be a different item.

Wyre is correct. It's very standard boilerplate for a game. If they have to change something for whatever reason, they aren't getting into legal liabilities over it.

They have complete control over their own marketplace.

They have changed Player Studio items after initial release to fix them. I have two housing items that have errors but I never went to the effort of having them spend time to fix, now I wish I had.

For Player Studio items they can change the price (would be a bad idea though). Change the availability (IE seasonal), or remove them completely.

They went through two rounds of removing Player Studio items from the marketplace. Hope you bought my Wild Yucca plant for 50cents. You can't obtain it now, and even the rocks cost $2 these days.

Second design. It was fun to do again, but I'll stop now.

Not sure I ever bought those Yucca's as I don't see on Guta's 'Find', but hoping I have on a property not owned by Guta or on an alt.[IMG].

I am still waiting to see the Winter Juniper Tree again. Hope they aren't extinct.[IMG]

I cannot understand the reasoning behind taking stuff off marketplace and never ever bringing them back on. There is plenty of stuff to browse through as is, a few more certainly couldn't clutter the Marketplace. If the reason is to make them rarer and only bring them onto market occasionally to try and get folks to jump at buying them, then at least bring them back onto Marketplace occasionally. The problem I see w/ that approach is that who is going to constantly monitor when something is brought out of the vault. Sometimes folks w/ be taking a break from the game right at that time. People that might have bought some items may miss the opportunity, thus no sale. If always available, even if and someone waits for a bonus event to save some DBC, it is at least a sale vs nada.

I took a break from EQ from pre-HoT to 2020. There are so many Marketplace only items I can never get. Plus if they only housing items they're going to add each year are 1 painting, 1-2 travel items, and items usable in other ways (mounts, familiars, and weapon slot items), it really is annoying that they don't put items back on the Marketplace occasionally that were taken of to give even just an illusion that housing isn't utterly abandoned.

EQ2 gets a dozen or more new placeable items added to the game, not just Marketplace, every event every year. It would be nice if they would add even just 1/4 of that number to EQ.

I understand the demand for such items and the potential business opportunity, but does EQ need to go the way of everything else in the world and become nothing more than a merchandizing apparatus? Its all about Precedent, and to allow one media franchise to make in roads would probably open the door for Marvel MCU ornaments or Star Wars etc. Anything that Disney or any other BIG Media/Big Business might want to promote. Perhaps the Tumpy Tonic becomes Coca Cola or Pepsi, but you can't make it in a brew barrel anymore because its a trade secret. The short beer becomes Bud Lite, etc. Maybe find a way to slap sponsor stickers on mounts, and pretend its NASCAR.

To make it brief, it really doesn't fit the context of a Fantasy environment to have modern day IRL product placement or imagery be superimposed over what is otherwise a world very much removed from all that crap. Some people play these games to get away from that BS.

Not trying to be "unfun" with this, and I get that we all have commercialism and consumerism beat into us the day we exit the womb, but perhaps its not asking a lot to keep advertising and merchandizing out of some aspects of life.
