Does anybody actually LIKE permacamped 3 day spawns?

I'm just curious if anybody actually likes the fact that we have 3 day spawns on permacamp status that are necessary for quests (epic 1.0 to be exact)?

I mean would anybody other than farmers really care if these mobs spawned every couple hours or so?

The ONLY thing they are used for is EPIC 1.0 quests that are over a decade old.

What is the reason for these road blocks still existing in 2015?

Obviously, the people who camp them do!

But - yes, perhaps it's time to retire the AoN? Or whatever it is that keep them coming back for every spawn.

Zero reason because most skip their epic quests until they are able to go and solo them anyway. Making the Mob triggered with someone at the correct part of their epic would be fitting.

1000000% this. If you wanna make em only drop the epic drop. That's fine. Leave the rest of the mobs up for the rest of their drops, but doing this would give people a reason to do 1.0's again

This sounds like the right the option to me. I don't know why any quest item in game should ever be allowed to be permanently dominated by farmers. Being forced to pay 100,000 plat to a farmer to be able to complete a quest is not fun. There is NOTHING fun about that in the least. It's anti-fun.

If we're going to be tossing XP nerfs around to encourage folks to "move on", then let's apply the concept consistently.

Taking advantage of loopholes for profit and severely bending the letter and intent of EQ's Play Nice Policies (dominating spawns = zone disruption) should be "sunset".

    Move on.

wathever code they did kunark-classic with likely dont support wathever changes are needed for what you desire.

making them a few hour repop would take out all the ''epic'' in them as those horrible respawn are the only things that remotly annoying about the epic... take them out and it's a 30 min quest like any other.

you also have a quest to skip the 1.0 if you hate it that much. it was put in place exactly for that.

The "trick" for the devs, if a change were desired, is to implement it in such a way that feels right for all types of servers out there, blue, pvp, rp, and progression. It seems like some changes have to be universal across the board because its too hard or impossible any other way. I'm guessing that's why it still is the way it is.

I agree they wouldn't feel very epic if it were a spawn on demand type of scenario. Some of the quest mobs had universally cool items to help everyone else want to come along for the ride (I think). The only change I personally would support is moving profitable loot to somewhere or someone else.

I remember doing the monk epic and I waited several hours for Raster's camp to open up, and then cleared the spawns without missing a beat for another 24 hours straight. As soon as it dropped, I logged on my main and went and raided ToV for several more hours. Those days are obviously over and now I'm just reminiscing but yeah... good times. :D

Oh and to the OP, there's absolutely nothing wrong with 3 day / 7 day / 31 day spawns even... its what the community does with the mechanics... I think Devs should, for the most part, design the game they want to design without constantly considering exactly how a small percentage of the population might use or abuse any given situation. They need to stay true to their design, besides, do they even have time to brush up on their sociology / psychology while pounding out game design, or is it just an integral part by now?

It's not a matter of waiting 3 days for a mob to spawn, and then getting it. That's not the problem.

The problem is that there are people on EVERY SERVER that have a character camped out at the Dread, Fright and Terror spawns in Fear. They know exactly when they will spawn. They login to that character 1 minute before the mob spawns, kill it, log out.

The ONLY way you get your epic 1.0 done is by paying these farmers to multi-quest the item. You can NOT complete the quests with out paying the farmers to multi-quest the item.

Why would anyone want to keep that system in place unless you are one of the farmers. I can't think of one single reason anyone else would want that system in place.

I'm pretty sure every dev who possesses a college degree has done at least some form of sociology and/or psychology study as part of a core curriculum - even more so if said degree involves management on any level.

Of course, they could decide to just design whatever they please with reckless abandon giving absolutely no forethought or anticipation of applications or uses - but there should then be no surprise when players exploit or use certain mechanics in a manner that was not intended.

Consideration of end use is a moral imperative for every designer:

Casinos, lottery organizations, and just about every other industry that makes money off of games spend a great deal of effort to study these fields in order to maximize returns. I'm sure it is no different at Daybreak.

In their defense, something like this was probably not considered when this content was developed but over time the goal posts have changed drastically.

There is precedent to having the epic items appear in temporary, recurring, events (see: child's tear in Dragons, Dragons, Dragons). I think it would be nice to have a similar event created for all of the rare spawn epic creatures. Zone in and get an npc to punt you from zone to zone (instanced) and you kill the mobs of your choice - put a three day lockout on the task, or whatever is required to maintain the current respawn timer. For non-guaranteed drops (PoFear drops, for example for SK/War/Nec, etc. - apply the same drop table/rate).

It took me many dozens of dragon kills over years to finally get my paladin epic complete back in the day. That was all well and good when that was the top content and contested - now it's just nonsense.

I agree that in this day and age having 3 day spawns on old mobs should be retired. But who knows maybe this would take too much effort for the devs. They may not have much extra time for anything other then new expansions or bug fixes. But it never hurts to ask if they can do it easily they might consider it.

I made a suggestion in the progression server forums, that the spawn rate on bosses and Mini-bosses should be decreased in proportion to the accelerated rate of the server release. Once it is changed on the progression server, this could also be moved to the regular servers.

  15. Yinnie the Pink Elder

It is not like this on EVERY server, it maybe like it on some, but unless you have played on every server you cannot judge!

I recently completed my SK epic. Having read posts like this I expected trouble, I zoned into Fear the same time a warrior did, they beat me to the spawns, unfortunately for them the warrior epic piece did not drop, but my SK piece did which they let me loot. NO request for payment or anything, they also left up the Shammy epic mob just incase a shaman came looking later.

There are still a lot of good people around in EQ. :)

The idea for triggered spawns is a good one also. However, NPCs like Phinigel drop Epic items for many classes - Magician, Bard, Wizard, and Rogue. I've gone a record 16 kills in a row before getting a Staff of Elemental Mastery: Water before. So if you switched to triggered spawns, you could still not end up getting the drop you need. It would have to be a special spawn that specifically dropped the item the spawner needed.

Simply making the NPC spawn more often would seem like an easier fix to the problem.

on povar, contact Yyvo for pofear epic drops. I have posted on zam, advertised in general chat. in 2013 I 'd 14 epic pieces. in 2014 I did 19. so far this year only 2. no charge for any of it. I did the faction work on this wizard and another toon to do child's tear hand in. I agree they are close to perma camped on povar. One person with 3 toons sitting on each temple for hours in a day and days in a row. you wonder how I got the pieces to then? cause they don't cover 100% of the time - just about 50- 65% and I do sometimes get in there early morning or late after raids. during the day ( EST) forget it ( unless they killed golems the day before, then you wont see them).
