I just came back to EQ a couple of weeks ago and am playing a wood elf Ranger. I have made it up to Level 32 in that time mostly around CR and Blightfire. I really like doing quests and i am looking for one for my Ranger to get a good 1HS weapon. I have searched a lot of places for quests in forums but can't find anything. I have even asked my guildmates and no one seems to know any.

    Any Suggestions?

The problem is, there are very few real good quested weapons in EverQuest at all. Epic 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 come to mind as obvious quested weapons, but other than that, they are few and far between.

The best weapons for your level that I can think of offhand would be stuff you would either have to farm with a higher level character or obtain in the bazaar, and they come from Luclin, Velious and Kunark.

    Blade of Carnage (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=25210)
    Swiftblade of Zek (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=25203)
    Wurmslayer (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=5057)
    Blackened Acrylia Blade (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=51260)

In comparison to those, you have the Short Blade of Morin (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=5422) which is quested (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=405) at about your level. Those 4 weapons above are 2-3 times better for you than the quested weapon is.

Are you following the hero's Journey? I just looked on my ranger and found that if you ...

    Type /ach
Click on Hero's Journey (3rd from top)
    Click on Advancement
Scroll down to your level range and there is a quest series called "Working for Warwing (Stone Hive 35+).
Click on view reward (and it shows you what you'll gain gear wise when you finish all those quests).

In this instance you get offered 8 different options of a shield with a weapon type. Looks like options 2, 3 is a 1hs weapon and option 8 is a new bow for you.

    • Option 2 gives a 11 damage, 21 delay (with 25 damage bonus, 1 magic damage) in the look of a longsword.
    • Option 3 gives a 12 damage, 22 delay (with 25 damage bonus) and is a Gladius.

(In case you haven't been doing Hero's Journey, you can look at all the other quest lines and see which ones offer you an upgrade on the gear you have.)

Thanks for the info roth, and Crystilla.

I am not doing the Hero's Journey. I honestly think I am way behind everyone else. I only have like 400pp as a 36, all the gear I have looted except a couple of pieces of armor I got form my guild bank. I do have a Heroic but haven't played him yet. I like the aspect of looting my stuff. It seems the weapons roth listed I would not have the plat to buy anyway. I will look into the heros journey as well as the quest for the Short Blade of Morin.

Hero's journey takes the existing quests in zone and just groups them, to also help folks get geared up. It gets pretty boring camping 1 named after another for a zone drop (when no one else might be around to help). So it was a way to help give a path for players to follow if they choose, offer gear upgrades if there's a random slot not yet upgraded and show folks how gear sometimes is obtained in game.

However, if you did want to kill placeholders to spawn a named, THIS link shows the various 1hs weapons for a ranger (between level 1 and 40). And out of that list, THIS weapon is probably the closest for you right now.

See Scout Zerak in Blightfire Moors for a couple of quests leading up to Hammer of the Gnoll Slayer. I know you asked for a 1HS, but that's the best questable ranger weapon for your level (the ones given above are slightly above your level, I think).

No 1HS I recall, but still some good weapon quests in Blightfire: See http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/qsearch.html?zone=432 Gnoll Slayer Hammer and Treant Woodstaff come to mind.

    For other zones see http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zone.html?mode=questsbycont

Just in case you don't know, you want to search for the best / highest ratio of dmg/dly to compare weapons. To a Ranger DPS is more important primarily. If two weapons are very similar or the same ratio, then consider the stats, effects, etc. Yes the ones roth linked are generally many 10,000s of platinum, unless you come across a steel. Those are the top twinkish weapons though and have huge tribute values, so even if they weren't top of the line weapons, they'd still sell for alot.

Checking the bazaar though, you often find better than defiant ratio weapons for reasonably cheap a few 100 to a few 1000pp. 400p isn't alot, so you might look into a making money or farming guide. In blightfire, a common practice is to repeatedly kill the named shroom with a very quick respawn time, and take his lore loot to the vendors in the outpost just south of his spawn area. Very short run, and by the time you get back, he's respawned and ready for another kill. Earn 100s of pp per kill. Also good exp in the 30s. See Dragoneater at http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=22550

Most of the Hero's stuff doesn't have a tribute value, but the equivalent defiant stuff, even after being attuned and no trade does. It's not alot, but worth turning in, if you plan on using tribute as it adds up, or guild tribute if your guild tribute isn't maxed at the time.

EDIT: If not now, soonish, you should be able to handle giants in Rathe Mtns that drop 1-20p in coin a piece also. If you have a Journeyman Tank merc, they can probably handle them by now also. Dragoneater is probably faster though at your level.

EDIT 2: Crystilla's link to all 1-40 level 1hs ranger weapons requires zam premium for it to work, just in case you click it and wonder why it didn't work.

Thanks for all the information. I am going to work on this stuff I really like getting weapons myself so I will to the one for the Hammer, and go from there.
  9. Thraxxus New Member

I went to Stone Hive to get the Jade Scimitar of Turina and I could never find the horse/unicorn to loot it from. Is there a placeholder for him to spawn?

I did the quest to get the Hammer if the Gnoll Slayer though.

So I am at lvl 60 with my wood elf ranger, is there any swords I should look for at this lvl? I prefer a weapon that has some magical quality that does more damage.

Also where can I get a good quiver with endless arrows?

Finally what are some good armor quests for my level and character?
  11. Yther Augur

Endless Quiver AA at level 59: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Endless_Quiver

List of Quivers by WR (the bigger WR the better): http://eqitems.13th-floor.org/itemsearch.php?searchtype=advanced&field_0=items.bagwr&compare_0=>&text_0=0&next_0=1&field_1=items.bagtype&compare_1==&text_1=2&next_1=0&field_2=&compare_2=&text_2=&next_2=0&field_3=&compare_3=&text_3=&next_3=0&field_4=&compare_4=&text_4=&next_4=0

Prescient is actually 90% and the best, the list was from when they were bugged, and to get it to act like the best they lowered the wr for a while. Buy them anytime in the bazaar or from other players. If you're tailoring is up to par, you might try farming the items and making them yourself. See the recipes at Alla or http://www.eqtraders.com/

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=11924 Bor Warhammer for pop quested armor. Only chest and maybe legs have clickies on them, which would be the only useful parts. Defiant gear is still better than any of this stuff by a long shot. In general, each expansion with a level increase had questable armor and the chest almost always had a clicky on them to make them worth while.

If you got elaborate defiant or better weapons, I wouldn't worry about new weapons until 65 when you can get Secrets of Faydwer 65 req, 70 rec. level weapons and your epic 1.5.

EDIT: Sweeping the Steppes: Gnolls is a pretty good quest, if you can get some more to help you with it, or do it with you. Nice weapons for the level. See http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=3878

And remember, melee weapons DPS exceeds archery DPS, provided weapons are of the same category for most of a ranger's life. Exception though is when popping Trueshot line discs on a non-rooted/non-moving target (for the lvl 50 damage bonus to kick in).

As for damage, consider damage ratio. Damage divided by delay for melee weapons. The exceptions would be weapons with particular procs like Ranger's Epic 1.0 Earthcaller to proc a slow on a target which can be useful at times.

You should get the Endless Quiver 3 and Archery Mastery AAs - they are an important part of being a ranger. Ignore weapons until 65 (as Yther said) for the SoF dropped weapons; Elaborate Defiant weapons are cheap in the Bazaar, and are good enough. Prescient Quiver is the best, but may be too expensive for you; Fleeting Quiver you are also likely to find in the Bazaar, and are much cheaper.

Level 65 weapons: Lelluran's Scarred Longsword, Dreadfall Pike, Lelluran's Mace, Eldannor's Avenger. You could start to work on your epic 1.5 now, there are a lot of steps that can be completed before you are 65.

Ignore armour quests; you want to be using Elaborate Defiant. You won't find decent armour from quests until you are at the current expansion. However, clickies are worth looking for. The Kunark level 45+ dropped armour has some useful ones, like Tolan's Darkwood Breastplate that ports you to LFay. The Bor Warhammer quests have ok clickies on the chest and legs. You could also use a Wand of Imperceptibility, and a Shrunken Goblin Skull Earring.

you can use this site for helpfull maps in game where mobs or loots have been looted.
But remember that mob might of been pulled to that camp.

Thank you for all the responses.

My current sword is Intricate Defiant Greatsword, and I only have a couple pieces of defiant armor, the rest is a mix of regular ornate, and some consigned gear.
  17. Ratbo Peep Augur

Well, the glowing Athni, Othni, Reis, line kinda picks right up where Defiant leaves off, and takes you to RoF T1 stuff at 92.
That 92 stuff will get you to the latest expansion, 100, and then you can equip the very latest armor. :)
Unless you mean to jump into CotF at 85 at use stuff from there the rest of the way. Skipping over RoF entirely.

  18. Ratbo Peep Augur

The consigned stuff is identical in all respects to Defiant. For the 5 clams, it's worth it if your short. It'll get you to 85 at least. :)

whatever consigned armor is the same as whatever defiant, just bought with station cash or /claimed or whatever If it's elaborate, you're probably fine. If not, then check the bazaar for some. Most besides chest and legs are cheap. If you're short on cash, check the loyalty merchant (Find - Ctrl+F) in Plane of Knowledge for a bag of platinum or two.

Look for one-hander Elaborate Defiant weapons in the bazaar as well, or anything with similar or better ratios for cheap. When comparing one handers to two handers, sum primary dmg / dly + 1/2 secondary dmg / dly. So dual wielding 2 Elab. Def. Cutlasses ( http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=75098 ) would 20 dmg, +1/2 (for +1 Magic) / 24 dly + 1/2 (20.5 / 24) = 0.854167 + 0.427083 = 1.28125. Compare that to and Elab. Def. Claymore ( http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=75107 ) at 45.5 / 33 = 1.3787878787878787878787878787879 or dual-wielding katanas at 16 dmg, 19 dly (0.8421 ratio or 1.26316 dual wield ratio). The two hander will be better. But in most cases of similar weapons, dual wield will be the better ratio.

Check the bazaar for a weapon that can be used at level 1 and has like 100 hp or more always a good sign. Bazaar serch: Race: Class: ranger Level 1-your level, it should scale a bit as you level, just make sure the type is not red, look for something speedy with a higher damage than the defiant at level.

Just inspect all the non generic named weapons....though really if you were just starting this would be more useful.

There is a good low level damage weapon aug if you can find it. Though dont put a too high aug in even if you can use it, if it says this to this, it will lower the damage and stats on the weapon, making it useless doing like 4 damage which is trash.
