Should DCUO have random CR based open world bosses?

    Please try to read it lol I know its a lot....

    I've seen in some game where there is bosses from their raids or alerts just randomly appear and it drops rare items and is in open world.

    For example lets say on Tuesday for about 12 hours there is a Gen.Zod T6-T7 verion drops in Gotham City, they can have your fraction voice (Calculator, Oracle) Tell you that they are getting weird energy signatures somewhere in Gotham but cannot pin point it and is calling our characters to go look for it. So this will get people to look all over Gotham City for the boss in this case Zod.

    Once he is found people will shoot his location becasue he will not be beaten alone. There could be a barrier placed around him not allowing anyone under or over the CR limit. The Bosses could be the bosses from the game itself. Once the boss is beaten you will be able to get something based off our CR. And maybe a better chance at rare items associated with that bosses raid, or in this case since Zod is in lower Tiers then something rare in the CR range.

    Also since I said its last 12 hours during that day then you could be limited to 2 but there is a cool off maybe 2-3 hours long to keep people from just doing it over and over and cannot be replayed must wait. And the boss will not respond in the same place twice. Meaning you have to look for the boss again.

    I would do something like this like T1-T2 T3-T5 T6-T7. And when where is a T8 adjust it.

    Also I would do it Bi-weekly too. So every two week these Events can happen. And usually on random days. Like T1-T2 on a Monday and 2 weeks later its like on a Sunday. But I will never announce it. Because if its a hit people during that 2nd week would likely log in all week trying to find the boss.

    I would add auras to the drops too maybe like 2-3 colors not all colors you can buy. Maybe more of the common ones.

    Also harder items that people have been farming for year should be in the mix too with being a slighter better chance to drop in this based off the Boss and its tier.

    Now with bosses that are in different tiers. I would address that by when someone is within a certain range of the boss in you know the text in the middle of screen at times, I would lets say within 500 meters it will pop up on the screen telling you its Like T2 Sinestro and not like T6 Sinestro, that way you will know. Also It should mention if you are fighting a T2 Sinestro in CR range T3-T5 it will drop loot from those. But if the boss is from T6 and is in T1-T2 it will still drop T1-T2 stuff.

    So let me see if I can explain it better lol.

    Ok you have Bizarro T3 for T6-T7. His drops will have a better chance of gaining rare gear from all on T3 content but like in lockboxes or when you have content drops where you choose what you want, you can have a choice of something that s T6-T7.

    Now like I said every 2 weeks so during those 7 days you depending on your CR range your character follows under will be on random days, and all CR groups that well will have a chance. Some earlier and some later you don't have to use you two times at once like you find a boss at 1 hour in, but on 11 hours in you find him, also if the boss is engaged lets say 11 hours and 59 seconds he will not disappear yet so you can still fight him he just will not respawn. I would also add in that Legendaries would get 3-4 chances in a day.

    I don't know if this is a good idea or bad but I like it. And I hope many like this idea

    Anything they can add to open world missions is a plus. I think it would be nice to have some random solo missions similar to what you propose, too. This game focuses too much on group content and does not give us enough to do while we wait for our groups to form or friends/league-mates to log in.

    We are desperate for stuff to do. Seriously, if I see another 8 man "instance" I'm going to vomit.

    Server lag/overload would have to be taken into account. You get a ton of players rushing to one spot and trying to all attack one strong NPC and things will get a bit ugly performance-wise, even with multiple phases on the servers.

    The other problem I could see is related to CR. You'd run the risk of having a lower CR player getting one-shotted by a high CR NPC just for being in the wrong place at the wrong spawn time, and even with not getting loot/credit you'd still have the potential for higher CR players taking down the lower CR NPCs before players of the appropriate CR could get there.

    I like it BUT:

    I wouldn't put a barrier, bring back that open world "danger" feeling for low levels, like when you were newbie and ran into cultists, or the minotaur, but make them aggressive! IMO that "real world-real danger" adds to the feeling of adventure. (Like those games where you keep only your armor and your 3 more valuable items if you die -though im not suggesting this, just giving an example of that "danger" feeling)


    About the CR, i'd say make it end-game CR, it adds motivation for players to reach end-game and once again, it gives off that feeling of "fighting to save the day" that bounties, cultists and ardent adds once had.

    I mean this could also better newer players becasue they will not have higher CR players to help them. They will need their roles so some will have to learn all their roles they cannot just DPS it to death. And all the bosses will be from in game they will not have to make them. We've already seen the Dev's pop bosses in random places so it could b done.

    Well that's true since I said there is bubble around it they could have a limit to a certain amount of players that enter it maybe first come first serve making it more urgent to get in it.

    As for the NPC part for the lower CR ones like T1-T2 there are spots where there are not NPC's they could spawn them there or spawn them where even T1-T2 can handle them.

    Anything at all that will add to the open world is needed. I don't even think 3/4 of the players even need/want to go to either gotham or Metropolis and that's a shame. There should be more open world missions, random encounters. Why have they not added more bounties? it really is a shame as to the lack of content/creativity the "sandbox" aspect has been received in the five years this game has been out. (even Lego Marvel and DC games offer more in the way of open world, ya sad)

    I'd love to see someone in shout yell for a Healer, or whatever, to help a random group.

    None of this trying to make the perfect group with kicking others and stuff.

    The main reason I have it like that is for people of all Tiers can enjoy as well. It may help make some better support players as well. And help people not rely on higher CR all the time. Also the loot involve as well. Its an event like the seasonal in a way but with a purpose, since we allow all levels in that I tried to make it fair for all.

    Now based off what you said I would add an Elite version of this for end game players and it should be harder than the bosses you get in game at end game level. And make it just as you say only CR150 plus no barrier things like that.

    Don't know how viable it would be, but another option would be giving lower CR players a buff to min CR required for the boss (kind of like the no-pvp armor buff), have it affect only the boss area?

    They could make the more unused areas out there for higher and higher CR. That way, you don't have lower characters running into the wrong areas by mistake.

    Have the mini map turn progressively more red as you get closer to being somewhere you shouldnt.

    It would be kinda fun to try and escort a low character into a highly dangerous area. Just so they can see it :)

    I like this idea. Everyone loves it when the op bosses are spawned in the Watchtower or Hall of Doom. We should totally get some of those in the open world on the regular. Also if like others have said, they put them in area where there are no mobs already that would help with the low cr players not getting caught in the middle. I did like the bounties in the WOTL area but I felt like they should have been harder to kill. Groups of 16 to take them out type of things.

    The problem with that is that most of the open world is used for lower CR/pre-30 players. There isn't much space that isn't being used, and some of those areas do play host to parts of seasonal content (Valentine's Race, St. Patrick's mission where you travel to the park, Daily Planet, etc) or collection spawn spots. That'd be pushing pretty close to "punishing the players for playing" territory, and I don't imagine that going over well.

    Anything that bolsters open world is a good thing.

    If the worlds were expanded they could separate it into sections per tier. There would NPCs scattered all over that section that would grant mission/quests that awarded special gear or trinkets or XP. It would be a lot like what you do when you're leveling but for rewards relevant to your level/cr.

    I never understood why this game goes from leveling to CR. Why not just keep raising the level cap like a normal game? Everything gets funneled into instance after instance raid after raid after raid once you hit level 30. Here's an idea, make a raid once every 6 months. Make it so hard that people can't beat it on the first day. They can't beat it in the first week or even in the first month. How do you beat it? By running open world content and other forms of things to do and gearing up. Make instances actually worth running other then to get the latest month's gear. The system now is garbage. Absolutely horrible and people don't seem to mind. I just don't get it.

    It's disgusting how much untapped potential this game has that is seemingly being ignored.

    That's good, just like better open world PVP, sadly this game isn't made for open world anymore.

    why is that a problem? i'd find it more fun if i WAS knocked out by a super strong bizarro while leveling up. i'd feel like i was in a world vs in-between instances.
