Hello everyone, Hope you are well
Here i will cover some of the core basics of the game, this may not give you all of the answers to your questions but to any new player who stumbles along here or those just curious, i hope this helps.
Should you have any other questions you need answered, there will be links to youtube videos throughout this post to help you figure anything else out.

    Combat:
How does it work?In DCUO you have multiple ways to combat your targets be it through powers, weapons, crowd control (CC) and countering.
    • Powers: You use your powers to strike your targets, heal yourself, shield yourself or to weaken your target in hopes of besting them in combat to win.
    • Weapons: You can use your selected weapon to produce combos to attack your targets and deal heavy blows.
    • Crowd Control: This refers to your weapons or powers affecting your target in multiple ways. Most common is: Stun, Grounded, Knockback, Knockdown and Frozen.
    • Countering: There are 3 types of ways you are able to counter targets in DCUO: Blocking, Lunging and Block Breaking. Think of countering as a game of rock, paper, sciccors. Block beats lunge, lunge beats block breaker, lunge beats block break and block break beats block.
Blocking requires you to hold Shift or R1 to put yourself into a blocking position. This can be counter any and most lunges should your attacker not be under the effect of Immunity. You can be countered in a block by being block broken by a target.
Lunging requires you to hold Melee and to strike with your weapon. This can counter any targets using a block break attack or an attack vulnerable to interupt. (To see if they are vulnerable, look above their characters head. You will notice a blue crosshair) Lunges will be ineffective against blocking targets and doing so will result in you being knocked down.
Block breakers require you to hold range attacks. These will break blocks but leave you vulnerable to lunges.
    POWERS:
What are they?Powers are a key essential part to your character. Think of powers as a means to diversify how you do damage.
Think of powers like a Theme for your character. An example would be Electricity. Electricity you can use abilities such as Overcharge. With Overcharge you shock an target with electricity. If you do it enough times, they explode, dealing more damage.
Some players go with Gadgets. Gadgets entails you to use various tools to your advantage such as Smoke bombs, Tazers, Cryo foam and many more.
    What do they do?
Powers are a means of dealing damage, healing allies, shielding yourself and other or even to protect yourself by giving yourself buffs. Each power comes with 2 possible roles. This being a Damage role (Available on all powers) and either Controller, Tank or Healer.
Power interactionsYour power can interact with itself to help further boost your damage.
Each power has a specific "Status" that can be applied to your target. Electricity can inflict "Electrify", Fire can inflict "Burning" and so on.
Each Power type has a set of specific skills that can apply this status effect on your target. Using those along with other powers will increase your damage.

Side note: There will be alot of people asking "What is the best power for {This Role}. The answer to that question is: Whatever you learn, master and practice with is the best power.

    Roles:
What are they? There are 4 main roles in DCUO that you will use in battle to keep you and your group working together well. These are:
Damage (Commonly refered to as DPS)
    Tank
    Healer
Controller (Commonly refered to as Troll)
Damage (DPS): The Damage role is what it says on the tin... Damage dealing. Here you use your powers or weapons to deal the highest amount of damage you can. There is 3 main types of Damage. There is "Might based", "Precision Based" and "Hybrid".
    • Might based damage is all about your powers. You use your powers to deal your damage. Might is a stat in game that increases the damage your powers will inflict. This is one of the easiest to master as it requires you to know your powers and what combination works best for you
    • Precision based damage is all about your weapon attacks. You use your weapons to deal your damage. Precision is a stat in game that increases the damage your weapon attacks will inflict.
    • Hybrid is a mixture of both Might and Weapon damage. You will build both stats to increase overall damage from Weapons and Powers
Tank:The Tank role is the protector of the group. They use their powers to increase their HP, Shield themselves and taunt enemies into attacking them in order to keep the group safe from a swarm of targets. A good tank knows their power, knows what they must do to stay alive and can adapt to situations if more targets spawn during the fight.

Healer:Healers are the medics, nurses, doctors of the group. They will use their powers to heal your HP and to cast shields on you incase you are to take more damage. Healers are a strong backbone to the group, mastering a healer role requires you to be quick on the trigger to heal their allies in a flash.

Controller:Unique to DCUO is a Controller role. The Controllers job is to provide power to the group so they are able to cast their powers. Controllers can also debuff and crowd control (CC) targets to make them vulnerable or even weaken their attacks so they deal less damage. Controllers can be played in various different ways due artifacts which i will cover later

Selecting a role is a preference of your playstyle. If you prefer to be the brute, strong and buff type, then a tank would be great for you. Prefer to be the medic? The Lifesaver? Then be a healer. Prefer to be brutal, devastating and chaotic? Choose Damage role, the possibilities are endless.

    Artifacts:
What are they?Artifacts are a huge part of your character. There are many to choose from and many provide unique and powerful new ways to play your selected role.
Each artifact can be leveled up to its highest level of 200. Along the way, artifacts will grow increasingly stronger, starting at level 80, you will unlock its unique abilities. Level 120, 160 and 200 will further increase those abilities and make them stronger and stronger.

A set back to Artifacts is that they are time consuming to upgrade. You will require "Nth Metal" which will drop randomly from any activity you do within the game. Gather enough of these metals and you can infuse them into your Artifacts to grow them. Each 20 levels you achieve on your Artifact you will be required to "Breakthrough" to the next milestone. You will need to spend "Source marks" an ingame currency to purchase "Catalysts" to level your Artifacts.

How do i know which to use?Unfortunately i am unable to comment as artifacts vary depending on your power, your role, your playstyle and much more variables to include. There will be links to various YouTube Channels or Videos to provide you with an in-depth guide on how to gear yourself with artifacts.

    Allies:
What are they?Allies are similar to Artifacts in terms of them granting powerful effects to your character. In addition to providing unique effects, you will be able to select 1 ally to be summonable in battle to damage your targets.
You are able to equip 3 allies:
Slot 1: This will ALWAYS be your damage ally. Any ally in this slot will not grant you any abilities other than being able to be summoned to damage your targets
Slot 2: The ally in this slot will prove you an effect based on their "passive abilities" shown on their bio
Slot 3: The ally in this slot will prove you an effect based on their "passive abilities" shown on their bio

Hope this helped in some way. This is by no means a guide for veteran players. This is just a very basic guide or explanation for the newer players to the game or returning players who have no idea what artifacts/allies are.
