I use staff and I enjoy a lot. As far as tb bolt I have been running with it for a while and I love it. I also use the dazing device and the 60% mod. A little trick I use is to use tb a few seconds before the battle begins that way I have the buff for 20 seconds and dont really have to use it again for another 20 seconds. Plus tb bolt does extra damage to enemeis encased or in control states. so my rotation is something like this.. tb,mt, menace, mt pf or ps )depending on the situation) focus blast, mt and weapon attack and then i repeat. The rotation changes depending on power and adds on the field. My question was actually asking which one is better the 60% mod buff or 3 maybe four VB? Liek I said I love tb I just want to use a new loadout change it up a bit.

    thanks!

last I looked Vacuum bubble does about 3k damage, lil more in a very crowded area.

It's overall effect on a raid is very minor imo. I feel like there are better things that could be used.

I haven't used tkbolt and the 60% mod but it seems promising. Considering I don't like supercharges for dps anyways I'd think the tkbolt option is better. an extra 10-25% modifier on everything I do for 20s is probably equal to the difference of using a supercharge or not on a fight.

Ah ok well first I apologize since i kind of just flew by your question... I believe sticking with the 60% buff would be better in most situations since you prebuff yourself but 3 - 4 VB is pretty badass to have stowed away. It comes down to certain situations for example Gates hallway & boss fights you will benefit a lot more with VB vs the 60% buff cause your essentially nuking everything in site so the other DPS cant add to there overall damage. Hope this helped!

P.S Staff and Mental just flows very well it makes me wonder if the Devs designed the powerset around using Staff.

Thanks Greenman & Sylar I decided to do a few duels against a sorcery healer switching HV & Pyro and i can see the reason you like it. I just personally dislike the power cost & not to mention with everyone abusing the transformation lag it's kind of hard not to use HV just to keep fights on a level playing field, with that being said if they decide to fix HV I will definitely be using Pyro over HV in PvP.

no worries :) and yes I think staff was made for mental dps lol. The fluidity of the staff combos with the powers is incredible. Thank you for the comments and tips very useful.

What loadout do you guys use? I'm planning on going mental but I have little knowledge about the powerset :D
  7. JEEBIE Steadfast Player

Tendrils, Pyro, Grandeur, Mass terror, Psychic Shock, Menace

Sub in whirling dervish for tendrils if you have it.
  8. Jockin Jay Well-Known Player

    I just switched, unfortunately I'm flight /qq

Edit: How is the rotation? I'm using 1h
  9. JEEBIE Steadfast Player

    MT/Menace/dazing device -> Pyro->PS -> MT -> pyro -> PS

-> means do spin chop and clip it.

I forgot to mention, if you have no dazing device phantom flames may be better as you'll getg the bonus burst damage. It's still pretty close but personally I like pyro with dazing device and pf without.

Should I be using Dazing device IV? I only got III
  11. JEEBIE Steadfast Player

Doesn't matter, whole point is just to get daze effect on mob so your pyro hits for 10 more base damage.
  12. Greenman_x Steadfast Player

I use WD - Phantom Flames - Pyro - Mass Terror - Thought Bubble - Menace

Since youre flight I would sub Dervish with Psychic Shock or Terrorize...Phantom Flames could also be subbed out for Shock/Terrorize if you prefer it

Don't mean to nit pick, just had a question/comment.

Why use Phantom Flames over Psychic SHock when you already have pyro doing the burning effect? IIRC PS has a 1 higher base damage while PF has burning PI, so if it's already burning isn't PS better? Just a thought.

Honestly its a (no pun intended) mental thing with me...I like seeing numbers roll off of everything and in my f'ed up little mind it makes me feel like I do more damage

Plus, I really dont even use it all that much, so the minor difference in damage isnt all that much in the long run...I SHOULD probably use Shock and suggest it to anyone who uses Mental DPS, but its just a preference thing

Hello to the mental pros, after 2 years of playing gadgets, I wanted to try mental and I was always a big fan of mental but never try it, I wanted to know the difference that they have with gadget, and make a controller loadout to play besides Terror Tendrils,
Psychic Empowerment, and Word of Power, and how can I interact certain crowd control and mental combos that can work together, as well I want to play Mental dps as I heard is very fun to play with, I really don't mind if Im not top in the charts but I wanted to try something new also wondering which is better to play with the terror pi or the daze pi on combo, playability, n funnest. As well I also heard the Mental dps pvp involves having three shield in there loadout like Telekinetic Shield, Reflect Pain, and Grandeur/Bastion. I'm sorry if I'm asking to much question is that I would really like know some pros and cons of mental. Thank you for anyone's response.

The one thing i can tell you about Mental is there is no "set in stone loadout" everything is situational the effort you put in is what dictates how effective you are with this powerset in both stances. With that being said the difference between the 2 powers; Gadgets -> Juggles, Mental -> Stuns/Polymorph
As far as which tree to choose i personally feel the TK tree is awesome for trolling it has a burst damage aspect since it revolves around encasements & encasement breaking.

As for the illusions it's great for melee trolling and DPS while also having your main P.I applicator a DoT with Mass Terror. I use both trees depending on the situation anyway I'll give you my different loadouts that i run with; (btw SD is Speed Drain & WoP is word of power)

    Melee troll
Terror Tendrils, Phantom Flames, Psychic Shock, SD/WoP/Menace, Grandeur, PE

    Range troll
TK, Thought Bubble, Psychic Resonance, SD/WoP/Mass Levitation, TK Shield, PE

    PvE DPS
Pryokinesis, Phantom Flames, Whirling Dervish/SC/Terrorise, Menace, Mass Terror, Psychic Shock

    PvP DPS
Pyrokinesis, Thought Bubble, Terror Tendrils/SD, Grandeur/Psychic Shock, Terrorise, Menace

    PvP 1v1 troll
Thought Bubble, Horrific Visage, Reflect Pain, Terror tendrils, Grandeur, TK or HL shield

    PvP troll for everything else
Pyrokinesis, Phantom Flames, SD/WoP, Terror Tendrils, Grandeur, PE

Anytime eventually you'll find your own "mojo" with Mental don't be afraid to experiment.

Ty for the tips :D I'm really enjoying mental right now. Can't wait to get troll gears.

So, I briefly checked this last night but I am nowhere near the numbers/statistician that some of you guys are. It looked to me when I put TK Push or Pyro in my loadout w/Batarangs that the numbers looked higher than normal.

Maybe it's just me but it feels like the big problem w/the TK tree is no GOOD multi-target daze. Mass Levitation is what it should be but the cast time makes it feel worthless
