Need help with the Reaper DRM

    Hi guys,

started playing this awesome game some days before. Starting as NC, I found out that the recoil of some of their weapons is hard to control, but thats what I love in shooters, not being able to just spray and hit targets from 1000 yards+

As I focus on Medic, I bought some SC credits and with it...the Reaper DMR. Now the choice was between NS-11 and Reaper DMR, I chose the latter one, and thats why I write this post

Bought a x3.4 and a x2 flash for it. Bought a compensator. Still it´s hard to kill. Easy to land the first 1-2 bullets, but rarely get the 5th or 6th hit with the gun, for the final kill in long range engagements. No chance to kill in close quarter fights, and on medium range my shots do not hit fast enough to kill my enemy before he finishes me.

Sure, it´s all about practise. And still, can some veteran give me a hint or two for this gun to speed up the learning process? To have a 1:8 kill ration is really hard, it´s not that I never played shooters before.

Where to start aiming, at the head, over the head, below the waist?

Which fire mode works best, single shot, semi-auto, tap firing?

    The best distances?

    Best zooms? x6 any good?

Are forward grips useful, as it has only vertical recoil? Any other helpful upgrades? HVA is cool?

Best tactics with it? Crouching any good?

At the end, it is wise for a noob to continue with this one (considering all the acquired upgrades for this weapon) or is it more rewarding to invest those 10 bucks and get the NS-11?

Any help is appreciated, many thanks in advance

    • Aim to hit head (ie, after compensating for bullet drop) within 20 metres, manubrium (right under the neck) between 20-40, and chest/centre mass outside of that.
    • Always use full auto. If you're thinking of switching to single shot, you're too far away to engage and you will become sniper bait. The ONLY time to switch to single shot is when you can only see a person's head sticking out above cover.
    • The Reaper DMR is suitable for all distances. It has 1670 dps, which is very average.
    • Best sights are 1x or 2x reflex. Any longer and you'll be shooting at targets that you can't kill efficiently.
    • Yes, buy the foregrip. HVA is optional and a personal choice, but I like using it with most guns.
    • Crouch at long range where the enemy is unlikely to kill you quickly. Make sure you have a way out in case you're taking more damage than expected. Staying still also helps this gun, as it is sniper accurate while not moving, even while standing.
    • Don't spent $10 for the NS-11a, SOE has 2x and 3x $C sales very often. The NS-11a is quite a different gun, and I like it. If you feel like an easier to learn gun with a lower skill ceiling, go for it.
    Extra advice:
    • Practise aiming on the heads of your allies at the warpgate. Aim on each person as fast as you can, then move on to the next one. 5 minutes every day should get your aim nice and quick. Make sure your mouse settings are good (no acceleration, good sensitivity, tracks well, etc)
    • Have cover wherever there are enemies, and move cautiously. Guns don't matter if you're able to shoot half a second before him. Guns don't matter if you're better at handling your gun than he is his. The Reaper DMR is 100% capable of performing well at close ranges.
    • Don't use a flash suppressor on long ranged guns.
    • Don't try to land more than 6 bullets in a row at range with NC guns. NC has low initial recoil, so take advantage of that and burst fire.

    Hey,
I know what you're saying. I own a reaper myself and I enjoy it a lot. Let met help you get the most out of it.
    As you can see here,
    http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...-weapon-cheat-sheets-no-pistols-or-max.71764/
Damage and RoF wise, the reaper is just a gauss SAW with a 20 bullet clip and a fast reload. These weapons are the hardest to master in the game, but are worth it. I have tested these weapons extensively, and can conclude that vanilla Reaper is more accurate than the SAW, but fully upgraded SAW vs fully upgraded Reaper is just as accurate. So how do you get good with this weapon?
Well, It helped a lot to get used to the SAW first, because you get a much bigger clip to learn the gun and its behavior.

You must know when you need to burst, when to go full auto, and when to use single shots.

Let's talk about single shots. I use this at long ranges, or at people in cover at medium ranges. When the target is standing still, I tend to aim for his head, and use 3 (or more, but 3 can kill) quick single shots (let weapon recover from recoil in between) to the head.
Works great against infiltrators, or people in cover. (I use a x2 sight always). When I'm in cover, and I need to shoot moving targets at a long distance, I also use single shots, just to wear them down. I usually can't kill these, unless they stand still. (but they can't kill me anyway)

Now, bursts. This is what you will be using a lot. Just pretend you are firing full auto, but every 5 bullets, release your fire and very quickly hold fire down again. If you're doing it fast enough, you will see that your cone of fire stays small, while you can't hear any interruptions in your firing. Use this at engagements where you can see the entire body (or a good portion at a closer range) of your target. Go for center of mass, and try to hit as much as you can.

Full auto: Only do this if you're close and you're sure you don't need a lot of bullets to put him down. Whenever you're at a closer range (20m), and you feel you have an easy time aiming at the guy, go full auto. Aim for center of mass. Just try to get as many bullets to hit as you can.

The main advantage of the reaper is its ability to kill in only 3 bullets if you headshot. This is only applicable to stationary targets that can't see you, or at long ranges, where you're both forced to use 1 or 2 bullet bursts. If you catch them by surprise, they often don't have the reaction speed to evade that third shot.

    Which attachments to use:
DON'T use the High velocity ammo. It makes the recoil 10% bigger, while providing a 10% bullet speed increase. The damage bonus you get isn't enough to make you kill with fewer bullets. You will always need 3 headshots, or 5 or 6 body shots depending on range, regardless of HV ammo. Since you won't be killing many moving targets at extremely long ranges anyway, the bullet speed isn't helping, while worsening your performance at every other range were you fire more than 1 bullet.

Use the compensator, because anything that keeps the recoil down helps.

Use the advanced forward grip. It's not much, but it helps with the horizontal recoil without drawbacks. Since the reaper is a horrible hipfire gun anyway, you won't be going for the laser attachment anyway.

and btw, always aim down sights, unless you're within 3 or 2 meters distance.

EDIT: I saw the above post and I feel I disagree about his headshotting rules.
I never shoot bursts or full auto to the head because: With the slightest movement, you are going to miss your target, forget about it if he starts to sprint. If you get hit, your gun will be pointing one meter above his head, doing no damage. Your bullets have a cone of fire, so you're never really sure of the headshots after the first one. You will hit him less resulting in less screenshake for him.
How I do it: Aim for the chest. If he hits you, you're now aiming at his head. The cone of fire will also put the occasional bullet in his head if you aim for the chest. ( you will be moving in a lot of engagements anyway ). If he doesn't hit you, you are ahead in the dps deathrace anyway.

PS: Never use the select fire key. Just let your trigger finger decide how many bullets you burst.

There's no time for the enemy to return fire when you aim for the head within 20 metres. He is simply dead. Most guns can kill in less than 250ms this way, which is fast enough for people to realise that they're getting hit, and then realise that they're dead. All automatic weapons set to full auto mode in this game are accurate enough to group enough shots to be fatal on a head sized target at 25 metres.
Movement is not an issue since sprint speed is insignificant compared to bullet speed. It takes 0.03 seconds for a bullet to travel 20 metres, and hit detection is client side. There have been many arrogant fools that have tried to sprint past a small gap, only to be downed before they can react by a high powered rifle. Hackusations follow.

Headshots are simply the most efficient and effective way of killing people in close range. There's nothing grossly wrong with not aiming for the head in CQC, but your potential is limited. Specialised CQC guns will be more formidable. 4+ enemies will not fall to one magazine. Losing your shields makes fighting very difficult.

fire in busts of 1-3/max. 5 shots.
crouching reduces the recoil a bit( someone said that ^^)
    yeah, aiming for the head.

    for a CQC-killing-machine i would suggest the GR-22
    GR-22 for short-medium-1/2-longrange
    Gauss (S) for medium-long
    Reaper for medium-long

and if you´re medic: do not get the fully upgraded and mastered healgun, stay with lvl 4. ^^
and lvl your healability and go for nanoweavearmor or shieldcapacitor.
play medic more as a COMBATmedic.
just heal and revive, if you someone who needs to.
but always hang a bit back, so the others get kill'd first :D
because if the medic's dead, the group can't survive any longer :D

NS-11 is the weapon of choice if you want the VS-feeling on recoil and aiming.
