Hello All, I have been experiencing major FPS LAG on this System and get better frame rates from my less powerful Laptop. I can never get above 30 FPS in the lonely deserts of INDAR all alone. In big fights it drops down to less than 2 FPS and is unplayable. I do understand that this game is way more taxing on a system than BF3, but with this same system I play on max video settings with very nice frame rates. I am very puzzled that this game will not render on my main gaming system with any amount of decent frame rates. I have adjusted many rendering settings inside the GUI and with the User options .ini I have dual GPU’s and have tried both with and without AMD crossfire enabled. It makes almost no difference either way. No manipulations and I have tried many seem to help the really bad FPS. Most of my gameplay sessions are kept to non-populated area and I still end up with an average of less than 15 FPS. Nothing seems to improve the frame rates at all. My Current System is as follows: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z 16 GB RAM AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz Dual -- AMD Radeon HD 6870 Series Video Cards I have tried several revs of AMD Drivers Currently on AMD_Catalyst_12.11_Beta11 I am very into this game and would love to have better performance. I have been an ATI graphics card user for about 4 years and was totally an NVIDIA fan before that. I use the ATI 3D with my 3D monitor for movies and some games. Not planet side.. heck i can barely play without adding the 3D rendering to my system. HAHA So I am inclined to stick with AMD/ATI but open for Suggestions. I will gladly purchase a new video card and have been trying to decide between these two cards: XFX Double D HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB DDR5 1050MHz 2xmDP HDMI DVI PCI-E Graphics Cards FX797GTDFC Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 OC 2 GB GDDR5 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/Display port PCI-Express 3.0 Graphics Card (GV-N680OC-2GD) Partial DXdiag Dump::: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 12/18/2012, 19:03:12 Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate N 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) BIOS: BIOS Date: 08/03/12 14:02:24 Ver: 04.06.05 Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz Memory: 16384MB RAM Available OS Memory: 16284MB RAM Page File: 3991MB used, 13291MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. Your biggest problem is your CPU... my two year old socket 1366 i7-950 and superclocked EVGA GTX 460 I got when they first came out performs at 60 fps looking at scenery... 30-40fps in normal battle, and 20fps or so in the pre-patch tech plant bloodbaths. This is on high setting.
There's a massive opimization patch coming in January. There is nothing hugely demanding about this game, it's just horrifically optimized. I'm using a phenom 2 x4 3.4Ghz CPU and an AMD 5870. During the beta, one of the more AMD biased patches gave me 40 FPS in major fights, the following patch 15FPS in major fights. On launch I'm getting around 24-26 FPS in major fights. Around 40FPS in normal combat away from places like Crown/Zurvan.
Its inexcusable for the game to be performing the way it is when so many other games are free to play and run 10x better. I can run the new tribes flawlessly and it looks amazing.
I think having the Flagship 8 CORE CPU from AMD is not inadequate for this game or any other. I know there is FORD Vs CHEVY battles in the CPU fanboy game. But stating my bigest problem is my CPU is rather laking in Science or Logic. I do value your input, but I am not thinking we are on the right track here.
It actually is your cpu that is bottlenecking your system for ps2. I have i7-2600 that is faster than your amd cpu. I get 35 to 45 fps on big battles. You could upgrade to fx 8350 to get more fps out and would be almost on par with i7-3770S with speed. However, the actual speed increase can be different due ps2 not utilizing multicores efficiently and cos of different architechture of the processors. Intel is pretty much dominating on high end cpu's atm.
So... Anyone else have any sage wisdom on my plight?? I thought my System was pretty beefy but this game refuses to run with any amount of fluid and responsive FPS even not near any other peeps.. I am so frustrated....
its your CPU. This game absolutly hates amd cpus. Press Alt F in game in one of those big battles. It lists your FPS and bottleneck. I garentee its your CPU. i7-3770ks overclocked can't maintain 60, or even 50. Optimiszations are coming but until then, try this. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3029182 writen by yours truely...... Once again, by all rights this CPU should run this game flawlessly, but no. The CPU is the problem.
Just going to have to wait for the "magic bullet" optimization update in January and hope that it helps.
Cpu was the wrong choice for a gaming machine , and crossfire is not fully supported at the moment . That is why your getting poor performance .
Tribes isn't an MMO. "You people" seriously need to stop spreading horrible misinformation - the game isn't horribly optimized. The game is an MMO - they demand more of your machines, than round based ____ games. Yes there is room for optimization - no it will not make your machines do 400FPS magically.
Poor AMD has horrible single core performance, which is very important to this game. You don't see the difference in most retail games since they are mostly ported from consoles that run a 7-year old 3.0Ghz CPU. Some have enhanced graphics or slightly bigger maps on PC than their Console version, but still they can fall back to console quality when needed. So in conventional reviews FX-8150 appears to give similar frame rates compared to latest Intel i7 in those games. But size. always. matters. When CPU performance is really needed due to the number of players in awareness area, there's no way an AMD can hide its real raw performance. Even 4-way SLI GTX 680 won't help your frame rate.
Actually it is no longer the flagship the, FX-8350 is, and the main improvement is increased frequency to improve single core performance. The FX-8150 was actually a step down in performance for games that do not utilize multiple cores. The singlecore performance was actually worse than that of the Phenom II series. So in a game not using more than 1-4 cores you would see better fps with a phenom cpu. They corrected that with the new FX series, it is still far behind intel though. You are most definitively CPU bottlenecked with the game at its current state. Your options are, ranged by cost and performance gain, the last one on the list is the most expensive but also the one yielding most performance gain; free - OC your CPU as far as you can to increase performance pr core. Consider disabling 1 core on each module so you get a 4c/4m CPU and OC it further. new cpu - Upgrade to a FX-8320 and OC that one. new cpu and mobo - Upgrade to an intel i5 3570K cpu and a new motherboard. Before you say that I'm an intel fanboy, take a look at my signature - I love AMD and I acknowledge that Intel has the best performance per core which is best for games which use few cores, you should too. I manage at least 40fps average with my cpu in the heaviest battles.
It seem to be the multicore optimization that is the problem right now. Tested it on my I5-760, with 16GB ram, game on a samsung 830 256gb and asus 580dcii@stock running the manually edited "Ultra High" settings (5's across the board), VSync on. Stock 2.8: 30-40 WG, 10-20 Zerg Overclocked to 3.1: <50 WG, <20 Zerg Overclocked to 3.5: <50 WG, <30 Zerg Normal OC 4.2: 50-60 WG, 30-50 Zerg Max stable OC 4.37 (in my system at least): 60 WG, 40+ Zerg I OC'ed the 580 as well, but it didn't affect my fps in any noticeable way. It is of course hard to determine due to the nature of the game, but up to 4.2 Ghz the bottleneck was the CPU. If I were you, I'd hold off on buying new components until the "huge optimization patch"
