Hello, I was wondering if the 12x scope has more bullet drop off than the original 6x or is this only an optical illusion because of the magnified distance?
IRL velocity is the same regardless of optics or any sighting mechanism as VKhaun said. With the 12x you may be able to see the projectile drop clearer than with the lower powered scope.
Sort of. 12x compared to 6x is twice the magnification, so from the same distance the bullet drop remains the same. On a 6x scope the drop would appear less than the 12x, however since the target appears twice as close on the 12x they'd actually appear identical- the person would just be twice as large. It also makes the bullet splash appear larger which makes it more obvious if you're hitting south of your mark. As the maximum range of the bolt-actions can't really be achieved without 10x or 12x scope drop off really isn't much of a concern for a bolt-action unless you're trying to snipe with a semi-automatic. So yes Chandon, you're experiencing an optical illusion.
