Deathrus Tweaks for getting your RIG RIGGGED!

  1. Deathrus

I've gone threw some hardships and would like to share my tweaks that I have found that work. These gave me noticable boosts.

    Un-parking all of your cores.
    http://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php

What does it do? It keep the Cores in a active state instead of idle. The tranasction from Idle to active can cause hitching. This eliminates it.
    Drawbacks- You may run hotter.

Flag PLanetside 2 for Large aware.
    http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...-not-be-written-in-32-bits.49605/#post-640974

What does it do? This Tweak Allows PS to Address more RAM. Since PS2 is 32 bit would normally gives it aroind 1.2gb 2b of RAM. Most 64 bit uses have 8 gig plus. This should allow windows to give it more RAM 3-4 gigs, lessening the load on the HD and not creating a bottleneck when the Game Requests more Data.
    Drawbacks- None so far.

    Reduce and eliminate throttling.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html

What does it do? This program allows tweaking of kernel functions that reduce CPU power upon certain temps. This also has many other features but for me being locked in my EFI bios, this works wonders. Some Bios allow you to tweak this setting without using a program like this. However this works in realtime.
Drawbacks- You will run hotter but not get the kernel event lowering your CPU speed. Careful when using this.

Set PS2 to high priority and set Processor scheduling.
    1 .Start PS2.
    2. @ charecter select hit Crtl+Alt+DEL.
    3. Start task mgr. and click process tab.
    4. click show all processes from user.
    5. Find PS 2 right click on it.
    6. Set to High Priority.
What did I just do? Without going into a detailed Tech explanation. You just made PS2 take up majority of the processing time.

    Processor scheduling.
    1. Click start
    2. Right click computer and click properties.
    3. click Advanced system settings, click advanced tab.
    4. click settings under performance. Then click Advanced tab.
    5. Make sure Programs are selected in adjust best performance.
What did I just do? Without going into a Tech explanation. You just gave your running programs more processing time. Which increases PS2 performance.

    User options Tweaks.
(Assuming your settings are all on low)
    Turn off Flora
    Change render distance to 1000.
Run the game in windowed mode at 1028/768.
    Set rendering to 60%.

Have the right drivers. A no brainer.

Facts about PS2 and why it runs like Crap on most computers.
    1. Coded to run on 32 bit- 32bit is old as the dickens, it's time Software devs start using modern and updated coding and software methodologies. They did it to make everything more compatable on legacy stuff. However it can't even run on legacy rigs. Hopes for a 64 bit version and Dx11
    2. DX9- Read Above.
    3. One tire fryer- PS2 does not take advantage of Multi-core processors or use the intended power. I am not going to explain why, anyone who cares can find out. It favors 1 CPU running at a really higher clock Freq versus people running multiple cores and virtual cores.

These are the main reasons why your Comp or Laptop runs like crap with a i-5+ and a decent card. #3 is the big one. Note *this isnt an attack on the DEVs, they know this already.*

These are tweaks that I have done noticed a gain in performance. All instructions are for windows 7. If you don't have Windows 7 you need to upgrade ASAP. I hope it helps some other people!

    Some programs I use-
GPU-Z: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ I use this when I OC my GC.
CPUID-HW mon- http://download.cnet.com/HWMonitor/3000-2094_4-10793486.html?tag=main;dropDownForm Use this as well.
ATI Tray Tools- http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733 Use this to OC my GC.
Driver Sweeper- http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html I've installed almsot every driver for the 6770m, this was vital in cleaning all the old junk out.

http://nononsensegamers.com/forums/forums/main.50/ has additonal tweaks as well.

Bumping. I am hoping some people can try some of the tweaks and let me know how they faired.

I am curious about windowed mode. My computer doesn't run as hot when I use windowed mode. Anyone else notice this?
  3. VikingPingvin

I found this very helpful. Though i dont really notice a huge fps boost. But certainly it got more stable in larger fights. Thanks!
  4. Deathrus

That was my mian gains. It eliminated the FPS drop I'd get when I fired my gun. Now my FPS is stable my kd ratio improved.

    I rarely ever lose a 1 vs 1 now.
  5. Dankshasta

Well you mention the 32-but memory handing, but I when I installed PS2 I checked, and it is already 100% default LAA. LAA is what gives a 32-bit program access to four gigs through a larger address system. You'll just confuse people with that.

edit- and in case you did confuse anybody already, LAA is for 64-bit operating systems only! So in other words there is nothing to mess with there for any user, no matter what they're running.

    Nice post :)

The max memory you will be able to set in BCDEDIT, is only 3072, anything above will just make it go back down to 3072 as the system caps it at that so that it has atleast an extra gig to reserve for the OS itself. (Note: This doesn't FORCE PS2 into using more ram, it only reserves more for it, when it needs it, It may never reach 3gb, maybe 2.5gb or 2.7gb.)

Some more programs I would recommend the most:
    • Razers Gamebooster (Razer Synapse 2.0) - We all know what gamebooster does, Razer took it to the next level though.
    • Advanced System Care 6.0 - Turboboost, closes programs that would kill CPU and RAM power.
I do not see anything wrong with 32 bit, infact 32 bit is way more compatible with most things than 64 bit. 32 bit is not old..Windows 8 is still using it along with 64 bit.

Unparking Cores will not do much when it seems PS2 only uses 1 core and so much of that 1 core. When they optimize the Threads to make it use more Cores, then it will be very useful.

Also, to save not turning Rendering down to 60%, turn ShadowQuality=0, to turn shadows off.
  8. Deathrus

Ps2 will use up to three and in the msot annoying ways. It appears to call them at random causing systems with park and unpark cpus. this can cause hitches.

32 bit is very old 1980 bellmac-32a first true 32 bit processor. Thats older than me even wrose when you apply Moore's law. Call me new age :).

I'll add shadow quality as I know it makes a difference in larger battles.
  9. Deathrus

I am actually confised. I have 64 bit with 4b. Before I did the Tweak PS was getting 1,8 gigs around that. Now it has almsot all of my ram.

Was it a different tweak? I did msot of them at the same time.

    *now Iam confused :(.*

How much extra heat are we looking at when changing the CPU settings. Currently im water cooled with 4.5ghz i5 worth me toning down the clock speed and doing your proposed changes or leave the clockspeed and then change?
  11. Deathrus

Try it while OCED. Careful with throttle stop, it can ruin your computer. It's much more of a Tool than jsut removing the kernel limitations.

These tweaks really arent for Hardcore FPS, however you may notice less Hitches and Suttering. With water cooling you shouldnt notice bew a few degress difference.
  12. Deathrus

I wanted to clear things up after my testing.

If you're running 64bit in 4gb or less this will help. If you run over that it's already flagged anyway.
so 32 bit system will see most gain out of this tweak as most 64 bit system have 8gb plus.

I jsut got my 16gb upgrade and it went up a smigen, just becuase I went from 4gb to 16 gb.

Just wanted to post my results for others.
  13. Deathrus

I also cannot edit my post anymore. Some users have post other great programs and tweaks please read all the threads here.
  14. OmNomNom

I did not use the tweak which allows PS2 to address more RAM. But the game still uses up to 1.8 GB. So it's using more than just 1.2. Maybe this is because I set the textures=0 in the ini.

I set the render distance to 1000 and now I have steady 59 FPS outside (VSync enabled), additionally my CPU is around 10°C cooler now. (Still not Rainbow Dash cooler, but whatever. I ordered a liquid cooling thingy already)
  15. Deathrus

So you just did the render distance none of the other tweaks?

My biggest tweak is the High Priority.

I will lose 30 FPS if I do not do this, I forgot to turn it on and was getting 30 fps ina big fight, I've been getting around 40-60.

I alt tabbed turned it back on . I come back in and I am at 50fps CPU/gpu switching.

Maybe becuase I am on a laptop? I know they are built for conservation not raw power ( even though my laptop is built for raw power too).
  16. OmNomNom

Aye, this is the only thing I did.
Ah well, not exactly. I disabled the desktop visuals. I really don't know how to say it properly, since English isn't my native language, so I'll try to explain it.

RMB on the planetside2.exe and then "properties". Then "comaptibility". There is a thing with "desktop-" and "visual designs" (or so) in it. This will disable the aero-style and mouse shadows and stuff of windows while the .exe is running. After the exe is stopped, aero will be restarted.
From what I heard, the aero-style and visual designs are sucking processing power. I sometimes saw a small FPS-improvement when disabling this stuff.

Here's a pic from what I mean: (Aye, not English. But hopefully it shows what my crappy English can't explain)

No worries you can also adjust the performance settings under: advanced system settings. Then advanced go to performance and click settings. then go to visual affects and tune those.
