Why do they have kickback at all. They are energy weapons. Isn't that supposed to be one of the biggest advantages. Wouldn't that help balance them out vs the other empires specialties.
because balance, and iirc most vanu weapons compared to their faction counterparts ARE more accurate .. also the primary less noticable gimmick of VS is that most their weapons have less to no bulletdrop in exchange for slightly less projectilevelocity ...
NC weapons are energy weapons too! They use electricity to accelerate a projectile! And realistically because the acceleration happens more gradually across the entire barrel length the recoil should be easier to control and you could reach higher muzzle velocities than gas pressure can provide! VS weapons use plasma. Its as much an energy weapon as the NC railgun. It first heats up a pellet which is then launched at the target. Pure plasma would be worthless as it would instantly expand and without some kind of shielding it would lose its heat almost instantly. So VS plasma is likely inside a heat resistant pellet (or space magic magnetism that keeps it together). Either way: the mass of the plasma would determine the total energy it can contain, so having a denser, heavier plasma would be superior. And launching that dense plasma causes a recoil. Having no bullet drop makes no sense unless the VS use their hover tech in individual plasma pellets, but that would also mean the bottom of the pellet cannot contain plasma as it would be pushed out. As for the VS specialty, isnt being the middle of the road a specialty in itself? But hey if you want realism, we should give the NC higher muzzle velocities, higher damage AND higher ROF since its technically possible to fire your second bullet before the first one has left the barrel when using gauss technology!
