Has PS2 Always had Poor Anti-aliasing?

I run on medium to high-ish graphics and I've been playing for years, just today kind of stopped and realized how poor the anti-aliasing is in PS2. Edges look very sharp, stairs, lines on uniforms, etc.

From quickly Googling it, looks like it uses FXAA and you can't change it. Has it always been this way? I've never really noticed PS2 looking this edgy.

When they moved from DX9 to DX11, it appears the graphics fidelity has gotten worse. They are long overdue for graphical fine tuning and upgrading. Even Minecraft which is just as aged got beefed up graphics.

I won’t keep beating a dead horse. DX11 does allow more viable options on AA.

Agreed, I'd love to see a graphics / performance update.
