[Suggestion] Bringing back the deliverer

I would love to see this workhorse from Planetside 1 return in PS2. Here are my thoughts on how it could be done and still have a somewhat unique identify despite there being no bodies of water to float across.

The PS2 deliverer could be a very versatile vehicle designed to fill many roles in a pinch. It's not as fast as the harasser and costs more, but it has twice the fire power and can transport more passengers. It can't carry as many soldiers as the sunderer, but it cost fewer nanites, is faster, and has a lower profile.

The deliverer looks like a cross between a military hummer and a van. It has a driver, a gunner riding shotgun, two passengers behind them, and another gunner in the rear. It's tougher than the harasser but it's still vulnerable to small arms fire.

The weapon options are similar to those of a harasser. One option exclusive to the rear gun is the advanced rumble seat. This changes the back of the vehicle (including the rear gun) into a special platform for a max. From this position a max has full 360 rotation and can duck for added cover. In effect the max acts as the rear gun, adding to the deliverer's versatility.

Here are some ideas for the deliverer's utility slot.

Armor plating: Reducing the vehicles top speed slightly, this option makes the deliverer no longer vulnerable to small arms fire. This doesn't increase the vehicles health or reduce the damage from anti vehicle weapons, but can be combined with armor plating in the deliverer's defense slot.

Mini AMS: A limited form of AMS, any deliverer equipped with this acts like a sunder or galaxy for the purpose of squad members deploying directly in it. Furthermore it can deploy like an AMS equipped Sunderer can, but a soldier must die within a certain range of it to spawn there. A single deliverer might cover a small base, but it could take three or more to fully cover an AMP station. Delivers' no-deploy zones don't effect sunderers and if a sunderer deploys too close the deliverer goes dormant.

This doesn't include a weapon terminal like a sunderer, a single deliverer can have one or the other (see below).

Rumble Seats: This converts the two passenger seats into a pair of rumble seats. Part of the doors remains to provide some cover. Combined with the advanced rumble seat the deliverer would have three (two normal and one max).

Turbo: Same as the harasser, just with a slower top speed.

Repair: Same as a Sunder but with a smaller radius.

Ammo: Same as a Sunder but with a smaller radius.

Terminal: A weapon terminal is added to the exterior of the deliver. Since it's always active it is not effected by no-deploy zones (sunderer or base).

    Gate Defuser: Nothing special here.

The idea is that the wide number of options available as an option slot makes the vehicle able to fill many roles but it's limited to one at a time. It can act as a temporary spawn point while sunderers get into better hiding places. When armored it may be a bigger threat than a lightning, but takes three people to do so. Being smaller and faster than a sunderer they'd be better suited to moving about within a tank column providing ammo and repairs, but would be vulnerable to enemy small arms fire while doing so.

    Bonus Round:
Something else I thought would be neat would be empire specific wheels. These could not take up an existing slot, or they could be an option for the performance slot and not have any of the downsides in the descriptions. These could also be added as harasser options.

VS: Would get a hover ability obviously. This mod removes the wheels and adds a boat-like underbody. This deliverer handles like a magrider. It's lighter weight and hover ability halves the effective area that this vehicle will set off tank mines (measured from the vehicle's center). The deliverer's top speed is reduced by a small amount, but it gains a small increase in hill climbing to counter the slower speed.

NC: The armored wheels would be set a little further from the body than normal. This souped-up machine has a higher top speed, handling, and acceleration than any other deliverer. Furthermore the range at which the deliver detects tank mines is increased. With this option the vehicle's lighter armor makes it slightly more vulnerable to direct hits (but not mines and explosions).

TR: The Republic drivers can replace their rear wheels with a pair of tank treads (I believe it’s called a half track). Though slower on a level surface, this vehicle is able to climb hills better. It's actually the fastest ground vehicle on very steep roads and can climb hills other deliverers can't. This option includes a resistance to tank mines that stacks with the mine guards and a small increase to health. This is the slowest deliverer on level surfaces and going downhill.

Just some thoughts anyway...its been a while since I've thrown out suggestions.

    So it's just a Sunderer-lite?

The biggest question is why adding another transport vehicle in a game where players do not need to be transported?
Let's be honest the only vehicle they added last year is syill pure crap so I don't expect anything new for a long time.

A new vehicle would be nice, but it isn't going to happen. We'll see a PS4 port, then an Xbox port, and then a long, painful milking on life support followed by a last-ditch cash grab before the plug gets pulled.

Errr... so the TR one will have two Vulcans?

    Game over, game over man!

Since you can deploy at the next base or sunderer at the next grid what is the point of a transport vehicle?
  7. Capca

It's primary role wouldn't be as a transport vehicle. Think more of a battle sundy that relies more on speed and a smaller hit box (and a better selection of weapons). It'd be scary because of the high firepower and being almost as good as a harasser at flanking.

    So it's actually a Harasser-plus?

    Edit: Planetside Classic Deliverer.
  9. Capca

Yes that's a better way of thinking of it. give it the basic rumble seats and grab four friends and you'd have a harasser with twice the firepower, twice the repairs, a bit more health, a bit slower and less maneuverable, and a noticeably larger hit box. Like the harasser, hit and run would be key to survival.

But in addition to fast forward assault, it could also be outfitted as fast forward support. Instead of damaged vehicles always falling back to a repair sundy, the goal of a repair deliverer is to get out to other damaged vehicles quickly, do as much repairs as possible and retreat to safety before being destroyed itself.

I'd be okay with this... it's more like a utility Sunderer than anything else, and also it just gets 2x Basilisks. Nothing particularly threatening at all, which is how a utility/transport vehicle should be.

But turn that into 2x Vulcans/Halberds/Enforcers... and yea. Dead MBTs as far as the eye can see.

Battle Sunderers are already broken as they take down MBTs while gleefully driving backwards. Adding a second one to the game with even more firepower... doesn't sound like it will improve things at all.
