Low FPS during big battles?

    I recently upgraded my gaming rig and I get around 30-40 fps during bigger battles. I'm not sure why I'm getting similar performance than my older rig, and I see people with the same stuff get up to 70-80 fps during large battles. Any ideas?

    CPU: I7 4790k
    GPU: Nvidia 970 4GB
    MOBO: Asus Z97-Pro
    Game is on a SSD
    Ram is 32 GB
    Windows 7


    I never see the GPU get bottleneck issues ever, why is my CPU having a hard time?

    cpu:i7 950
    gpu: powercolour 6870 1gb
    Ram:6 gb
    -Fps before patch 35-60 due to thermal paste drying
    -Fps after patch 15-30
    -Fps after thermal paste change 75-110 on a 96/96 on day 1 and stablise at 60 on day 2.

    Funny you say thermal paste, I already bought Arctic Silver through Newegg and seeing if that will help since I recently noticed 70c on my cpu while playing.

    Previous fps was base on some high and some low and the screenshot below is on ultra setting.

    Decrease shadow quality and render distance or overclock that beast.

    Though what do you consider a larger battle? You should get about 50-60 in 48vs48 fights and 30-40 in 96+vs96+.
