Valkyrie is a trap

It has variety of weapons to choose from which implies combat specialization.
It has rumble seats which imply you can use heavies to augment your firepower or engineers to increase your survivability.

Yet it is totally lackluster in direct combat. All those attributes are misleading. It should be used only as a troop transport. Valkyrie weapons don't have a purpose beyond being cert/SC sinks and it seems rumble seats are meant for troops not to get bored while waiting to be dropped.

    Well, duh.

Just spawn your skyguard/esf and gather certs from them.

Or fly faster and almost as agile with your Lib and oneclip them with TB... :) (thank you SOE for the valkyria) *CA-CHING*

Well, yeah, could you imagine the tears if they accidentally created an airborne harasser?

TROOP TRANSPORT? Are you kidding me?

When ejection seat is not default and players have no way of knowing which Valk they can jump from and which one they cannot, you're seriously considering the Valkyrie as a troop transport?

No thanks, I'd much rather take a Galaxy, or pull my own personal air taxi (which for most of the time is a Valk, but I certed that thing myself and know for damn sure that I can jump from it).

Yes its a ******* troop transport vehicle. And it doesnt need the ejection seat to be standard since it is maneuverable enough to drop of troops on a point by diving in, hovering and taking off again, just like a troopmtransüprt helicppter.

Stop using it like a Liberator, stop flying 200m above ground where you are easy meat for AA, ...
    When will you learn?

There now have been enough guides and comments as to HOW to use it and how not.

There are a few things that should make the valkyrie useful:
phantasm cloaking module (lasts for ~7 seconds and have long cool down time, goes to the utility slot)
a bit more health/resistance to Tank buster and ESF nose cannons (to prevent being instagibbed by libs and ESFs)

I'm curious if sentiment like this is why the latest batch of stuff has been so bad?

"Spiker doesn't need fire rate, it can OHK at execution range!"
"Mag-scatter doesn't need magazine size, it can shotknife!"
"AMP doesn't need more ammo, it's automatic!"

Being shoddy in most aspects just for a perk or two is not an excuse to be made. The cheapness aspect to it can't apply because then you can start comparing it to cheaper options (Sunderer, Harasser, Flash) all of which come out either rather well off for their cost, or good enough in enough areas to justify use. The fact stands that the Valk is lackluster in so many areas that it is hard to ever justify pulling one over some other option.

The Valkyrie is fine. Anyone who thinks it's terrible does any or all of the following:

    - Does not play in a team
    - Uses it in large fights (all air vehicles suck in large fights!)
    - Does not use the right certs
    - Use the wrong play style

The Valkyrie is my favourite vehicle so far. It's the most agile and the most team orientated vehicle in the game. If used properly you can win battles with one squad, not through raw killing power but by using teamwork and tactics.

I'm just saying that some of its prominent characteristics (new weapons and rumble seats) are non-functional and may be misleading.

The spawn and ejection cert are supposed to be one in the same, so if you can spawn on it, theoretically you should be able to drop out of it.

Once they fix the drop seats...
  12. CipherNine

What tactics are you using? Only one I successfully managed to implement is dropping bomb squad on top of enemy Sunderers and tanks. It works quite well but again based on Valkyries characteristics one would expect to use it like Blackhawk from BF:Bad Company 2. Its weapons and rumble seats are utterly redundant and misleading in its current iteration IMO.

The Valkyrie imho is slightly better now. Maybe a little bit more of tank buster resistance would be nice.
I think it must be used to surprise and outmaneuver ground troops by quickly relocating small fire teams.
What's hard about the Val is you need a full team to maximize damage output / survivability. And without the safe drop upgrade yeah it might be a deadly trap.
But you can use it as LA or fit the safe landing implant.

    Loadout

Weapons: Pelter for AV (two magazines to the rear of a tank will kill it), CAS for AI (large magazine with mini explosive rounds ideal for infantry) or the Wyvern for AA (it's the most accurate weapon with a reasonable sized magazine), all with zoom (thermal has no range on it atm). These are your best options as they can also fight back against other enemy classes to a reasonable degree. I mean seriously, just try and use the VLG or Helion against infantry.

Utility: Squad logistics system (seriously, what else would you use)
Defense: Stealth (got mine at level three atm but saving for level four as we speak)
Performance: Level three evasiveness (This gives you vital speed and agility)

    What to do

Fly low to the ground, you should be using the spacebar to stick to the surface of the landscape. This makes you harder to notice and fly faster. This is a big advantage for the Valkyrie as it keeps you undetected and other air vehicles can't "stick" to the surface as well as the Valkyrie.
When you approach an enemy base use your head. Approach using the landscape to your advantage, even if means flying around to the other side. If you're doing a hotdrop you should approach from the side that keeps you most hidden.
When supporting your team you need to be close in order to do damage, the Valkyrie isn't meant for long range. You want to be using the agility to your advantage, duck in and out of cover such as buildings, hills and trees. Just remember to drop your teammates off in a good spot when they spawn on you and give your gunner some good angles. If you take damage, don't be crazy, go and repair, even hanging around with 66% health opens you up to near insta-gibs.
You're a support role not a killing machine. You don't go running out into the open as an engineer or infiltrator do you? The Valkyrie is the same, play it smart and avoid damage wherever possible. Also, avoid big fights, all air vehicles are terrible in big fights.

Oh and it's best use by far is going around the big fight to get to the enemy base. Very often you will see big fights happening in between bases because they can't get past each other. The Valkyrie goes straight past them into the base putting your team on the offensive.

It is only shoddy in one aspect and that is its nose-cannon (direct combat role). Since it is intended as a non-combat, SUPPORT-TRANSPORT vehicle, however, this is totally fine.
As I said, stop attempting to use it as a Liberator or ESF. It's neither of those. Sorry but I'm sick of reading posts asking for more diversity, more specialised roles and when the DEVs finally release a non-all-purpose vehicle* that is more specialised and especially more support-oriented than combat oriented all the kids go ragemode because they cant "OMGIWANNAGETEASYKILLSNOAAAAWWW" with it.

As see Nexus545's post above for advise on how to use it or some of my other posts in other Valkyrie threads. Me and my Outfit use it regularly for quick troops placements or getting behind enemy frontlines and - using either TS or ingame voice- works perfectly fine.
Buffing its nose-cannon would only make it a cheap Liberator (again, already 2 Pelter clips = dead tank, together with the rumble-seat HA AVs this is quite viable).

    --------------------------------------------
    * As is, there are too many all-purpose vehicles in the game or at least vehicles with less clear-defined roles.
As someone else has put it nicely:
ESF: Good against Air. Good against Vehicles. Good against Infantry
Libs: Good against Ground. Good Against Infantry. Relatively good against air.
    etc etc.
Of course it depends on the loadout but the same can basically be applied to most vehicles. Heck even a Sunderer with the right setup is good against all three as well. More clearly defined roles would IMHO be far better for gameplay.

I got to talk with a dev recently and he said they were cautious about releasing anything in an overpowered state, it is easier to buff than deal with the consequences of an OP weapon. Anyone who has been around this game for a while (original Zephyr/rocketpods, old pump action shotgun, ZOE, etc) can appreciate this mindset. We just have to hope they will remember to give appropriate buffs eventually.

Yea if you hover above the ground it go maybe 170kph but at a normal altitue you get 140kph lol
My speed racer mosquito go in 350kph and it can fight enemy aircraft.

If a esf attack your valkyrie its only to die and try again because you are so slow so that aircraft dont even need to use turbo to catch you and you have zero weapons to fight him with.
  18. Tycoh

Don't stop using those valkyries, you're supporting my cert count your team with your air superiority.

Well as the Valk is getting a buff then we should judged after that but its unlikely higgs will take on board any comments on our ideas as he didn't before and dosnt anyway, well unless your on reddit. In its current state its very situational but nothing I find I like to bother with, I see little value and imagination with the Valk.

From day one, I said give it a cloak and that's the only thing I can of that will really make this unique unless you give it stupid armour.

Thanks for the heads up, glad to know that this is official sentiment on the devs part and not just group think. The problem with releasing things in such a low power state is that the sales of such thing will be so far down it is not even funny. But barring that financial reason, if that is their approach then they have to listen to the community when something is straight up bad. The pistols have been out a month, same with the tank update and today very few people are using those things and tanks are more useless than ever. But the devs keep on going right on over our yells for fixing these broken things.

I love the Valk, make no mistake, but it is too flimsy in all areas to make much use of it outside of total dominance at the base you are at. And even then, a burster is just waiting to make you day. That is why I'd like it to be a mini bruiser, because its current roles put it so close to everything that can kill. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Valks shot down by tanks, hell I almost shot one down with a Magrider. That is just not a good thing.
