New Vanguard abilities

    After the long thread about the NC Vanguard shield I was thinking of adding a thread to try and find new abilities for the Vanguard that everyone agrees with.

    The current gripe as someone put it was that the shield was too much a magic 2000 extra health, this felt unfair as your progress seems completely negated simply because someone activated his shield. It´s also frustrating to get hits on a tank and not see his health go down, making those shots seem wasted. So what are your idea´s for new Vanguard abilities?

    Here's mine, you can discuss about how they work:
    Vanguard resist shield.
    Similar to the HA it gives a straight 45% damage resist when activated. It can run for 8 seconds straight and has a recharge of 20-30 seconds depending on level. Unique is that the shield can be turned on and off at will, allowing you to extend your life while taking damage by timing your shield.

    Vanguard turret shield.
    Similar to the MAX shield. It has a set amount of health that can be tanked. The shield can be activated/deactivated at any time with a short delay between the shield being on/off. While turned on the main cannon cannot be fired. The shield is just a little broader than the front, so when trying to protect the side of the Vanguard a part is still visible to the attacker.
    The shield is high enough to prevent the top-mounted turret to fire at the target that the primary cannon is aiming at to prevent free damage behind the shield.
    Perfect for groups to advance on the enemy, but like the MAX has great disadvantages when multiple enemies attack them.

    Dome-shield.
    The Vanguard deploys itself to create a domed shield which protects infantry and tanks in it's field. The shield works like a tank-shield in that it deflects any explosive or tank weapon fired against it, but does not stop small-arms fire to pass through. The shield also prevents the Vanguard from firing outwards. More of a teamwork shield that protects infantry and tanks in the field for repairs or passage. It takes a few seconds after deployment before the shield starts up and it only regenerates while the tank is out of anchor mode, so after enough enemy fire is absorbed the Vanguard is forced to redeploy and be vulnerable again.

    Vanguard deploy-shield.
    Similar to the Sunderer shield only it offers a lot less health. It takes a few seconds before the shield activates after deployment (in access of 4 seconds, in access of 10 seconds when damage is sustained within those 4 seconds). Allows the Vanguard to hunker down and tank a ton of damage at the cost of mobility and a deploy/redeploy time.

    Railgun shells.
    When activated you improve your railgun coils to launch your shells faster. Gives a small increase in damage. Lasts 13 seconds (3 shots regardless of reload speed upgrade).

    dude... vanguard is the weapest tank. it needs a buff and not a nerf.

    The shield is the only thing that tank has going for it. It would be nothing without the shield...

    It's only long because people are arguing about how much better the other MBTs are currently, pretty much no one, but the OP, actually believes that the Vanguard is overperforming (never mind is overpowered) currently.

    That's not to say they couldn't get rid of the shield, but the first thing they'd have to do is buff the stock Vanguard chassis up to the standard of the other two MBTs, because currently it is significantly below them (stock vs stock) and even with the shield it is still at worst (and mostly) sub-par, and at best on-par, in different situations.

    whole point is fo the MBT to be different from each other..if they were to increase anything else they would have to lower the damage on the vanguard.

    Couldn't this topic have just stayed in the original Vanguard shield tread if you are simply responding to that one?

    Just because you created a thread mentioning that people were unhappy that the shield exists, does not mean a consensus has been reached. That thread died out with a bunch of people with differing opinions, not an agreement that it needs to change.

    IMO the shield should remain as is.

    The resist one would be a much better alternative then the current one. If used like the current shield it would still be possible to get enough through and even though it would in many cases be more effective then the current shield, it would not FEEL like a win button when you are fighting against it because the target does take something.

    Give it ZoE :) Let it move 20% faster while taking 30% more damage for 15 seconds :)

    the vanguard is its shield. it shouldn't have been nerfed to begin with.

    The vanguard would be ok as it is now if it was not allowed to fire primary or secondary weapons while the shield was activated. The shield should not be a win button, it should be a tool to help the tankers get to safety.

    You should probably use the tank before you try to come up with ideas to "fix" it. It's painfully obvious to anyone with the least bit of knowledge on tanks that if your idea was applied the shield would be completely worthless and actually get the vanguard killed rather than help it. I don't see why the VG shield should actively hinder the driver...

    I have used the vanguard before. It's OP as ****. It has the highest potential damage of any tank in the game when paired with an enforcer. Highest potential HP and with the win button it's almost unkillable. You don't even need experience to be good at it which is one reason why so many new players have fled to NC in the last few months. Maybe you should play some other races to see why the vanguard is so much more overpowered than the other races.

    In large battles, i was easily able to get 20+ in kill streaks over one tank life it just depends on how you play. The Vanguard shield is it's own weakness sometimes because players that play it know it's OP so they throw themselves at the enemy running headfirst into 20+ enemy vehicles. The only bane the vanguard has is when it has more than 5 tanks shooting it which any other race/class would have fell to just one vanguard.
