How do you feel about unlockable weapon upgrades using SC?

Not to say I called it...but I called it. Back when it was just weapon scopes that could be unlocked with SC, I knew that unless people stepped up, all weapon upgrades would eventually become unlockable.

SoE stated in the beginning of Planetside 2's life that progression would NEVER be purchasable. They have obviously gone back on that statement. This makes me wonder, how do you guys feel about this?

Personally, I feel like we have gone well beyond dangerous territory. Now that people can buy powerful weapons and fully upgrade them within minutes of creating new characters, I feel that to be a bit unfair to those who cannot afford to drop money on their loadouts, especially since it takes a considerable amount of time to purchase a solid weapon and unlock viable upgrades with certs. The problem is especially compounded by the fact that MAXes can be almost completely decked out like a steam roller with gold rims and flatten their opposition without much work going into them. This also makes me scared that SoE will ultimately make infantry/vehicle upgrades be purchasable with SC in the near future.

Extended mags for MAX is straight up p2w if you compare two stock MAXes in a 1v1 situation.

But you could pretty much say the same for tanks which can buy AP for SC at BR1.

As someone already suggested... Next month: Nanoweave bundle for $14.99

I don't care, doesn't stop me from farming my certs to get them.
  4. Exonis

They already broke their own Forum EULA, why would they care about some promise they made.
SOE doesn't care or listen to their player base, and they don't even follow their own rules, all they care for is your money.

If something is being able to be payed with certs, I use certs.
Camos and such can't be payed with certs, so I only use SC on things like that.

I do not feel that I need to rush (pay SC) things (it's only a game), certs takes time and with time comes skills. So I rather use my skills - feeling like I accomplished something and I truly earn the ext. mags for a MAX weapon. Instead of paying for them like a lazy cheese-eating b*tch.

I don't really care. Attachments are cheap enough as is and whatever helps new players most is fine by me. People are really overreacting to this update, IMHO.
  7. Sledginius

Personally, I see a way for new players to get unlocks, which help them compete with more advanced players. It is more like : Pay 4 convenience
  8. Mianera

I call this pay 2 win.

If they make everything purchase-able with SC, what's the point of buying a boost or becoming a member. Just buy your way to all the stuff and don't waste months of cert farming.

Pick a class you like get good at it max out its abilities. Get heaps of kills. Get certs. Keep improving that class. Pick 1 vech you like use your certs max it out.

Pay to win seriously mabey if your flying around all day trying to be tom cruise from top gun it makes a difference but I get far more kills and certs from my heavy assault than from anything certed into. I mean damn even support guys make a tonne supporting with ammo radar and ressing. Get with a decent outfit and play your class. You will find that the majority of the time you will be gunning for people who have spent the certs on vech.

All my heavy assault gear was purchased using certs in the first week of me playing. It hasnt changed since then. So what if some dude blows $50 on scopes for his 1million guns. Yours kills just as well and guess what you didnt have to pay squat for it. Go to the VR arena find the gun you like the most and stick with it.

This whole pay to win mentality is for stupids to justify their bad game play, stop trying to be master of everything in the game and worry about what you are good at. Focus on that and the certs will come. Your outfit will appreciate you much more for it, be a specialist not a so called master of everything.

So what if they have it all guess what you worked to get it all making you a better player than them in my opinion. You cant buy skill in this game.

I don't really see the problem, nor do I care overly much.

Whatever you buy with SC will not give a massive advantage over a player, who knows what they are doing, in anything but the most extreme cases - sure you can buy yourself a fully upgraded gun and think it'll make you "pwn nubs", but the fact remains, that if you are bad player, no amount of SC purchases are going to make you any better than average.

And if you are a good player, you are going to wreck face anyway, regardless of weapon upgrades. The only thing the SC purchase allows you to do is skip the initial grind to get your loadout fully kitted, so it's pretty much just a convenience thing anyway.

    Either way, I don't care.

Other people buying their way to the minor upgrades this game allows for does not ruin my fun.

I mean, it's not really different than people having 10 hours to play the game every day compared to people only having 1, except time is "free" (which I can tell it's most definitely not - time is the most precious resource anyone has, as it's one of the few things in life you NEVER can get more of and NEVER know when you'll be out of).

You might as well ask why SOE doesn't limit people's play time on the game every day to 2 hours, as people playing longer get an unfair advantage over other players, as they have more time to grind certs.

In any case, if significantly advantageous weapons/vehicles/upgrade types become available exclusively using SC, I will begin to question the business model, but so far that does not seem to be the case nor in SOE's future plans.
  11. ironeddie

Honestly don't care. I get 500 sc a month I get certs easy enough to. I'll use whichever I have. Like the other day bought the underboss. Wanted a laser sight. Didn't have the certs. Did have the sc so used that. It was convenient.
  12. TheMish

Just don't buy anything with SC, no membership either. Starve them until they stop their ********.
  13. TotalEnigmaVS

i think everything should be avalible to buy for SC
it is heading this way slowly step by step they will add it as ninja changes then ppl will whine about it for a week or so and we will do as we allways do ...Deal with it ^^
If u think im talking crap try to remember the 1x NV scope and the ADS while midair, do you remember that drama? coz i do.. changes that should not happen but they did and after all that time what has heppen? NOTHING we as gamers lost and they as company won
i do understand its their product and they can do ANYTHING they want
  14. Lavans

And its up to the consumer to guide them. It's the consumer that pays the bills, and if SOE does something that the consumer doesn't like, then PS2 will die. SOE is slowly turning PS2 into P2W, and that is bad for business and discourages new players from committing to the game.

i understand you exacly i rly do but there is something very important in this all buisness , its called ignorance and this is what they hope for, that consumer will just ignore things .
But we dont do that, we cant we fight for our consumer rights and we try to guide them towards better changes.. i know
when the igorance phase fails then they go for the "accepting things" phase and thats where we are in many cases still coz the longer uare in this phase then its better for them.
I know i sound like some guy that sees SOE as some coorp that makes PS2 only for cash in but after all that time spent....
  16. MCSquard

personally its simple SOE wants to make it easier for the new players to get up to speed while making a buck doing so, it still doesn't change the fact that a fully decked out super awesome gun of awesomeness in the hands of a 14 year old will still fire like the default gun in the hands of a 14 year old , it just looks cooler as he does it.
  17. Flamberge

    Show me a
    and then I will agree.

All joking aside, it's not really "pay to win" if you can buy it with certs. Now it might be "pay to be lazy" or "pay to be impatient", but it's not pay to win. However, as soon as they release a gun or attachment that is only for SC (and not just a gold or platinum variant) I will be screaming PLAY TO WIN with all of you.
  18. Lavans

An item doesn't have to be locked behind a pay wall for it to be pay to win.

As I mentioned on another thread, if I want to get 2 Cosmos with extended mags, that would cost either $13 USD or 1250 Certs.
At ~250XP per minute, that weapon setup would take 21 hours of play time just to purchase with certs.

Before upgrades were purchasable with SC, a person that bought the extra Cosmos would still have to grind for ~16.5 hours to get the certs necessary to unlock both extended mags.

The amount of time it takes to acquire those certs is blown so heavily out of proportion that the game might as well become pay to win.
  19. Gleerok

Honestly, when you keep carving for something like a set-up, it all becomes harder.

Even thought my character stats say my xp/min is around 190 (because if AFK/train), I do average around 20,000 xp hour which makes around 330 xp/min, and thats when I'm having fun, not necessarily farming the hell out of something, otherwise I'd go up to 25,000-30,000/h WITHOUT boosts or membership, perhaps some small region and squad xp boost 10-15%. I only worry about playing, when I take a look at my stats, I already made more than 100 certs.

A while ago I had almost 3,000 laying around, I spent 900 just for the sake of it. Kept playing, and then here I am again with 2,300 certs.

The biggest secret is: Not to care about it.

When I stopped caring, certs became a consequence of gameplay, and not a goal. The goal is having fun.

Thats why I only buy aesthetics with SC, I don't feel the need to buy weapons. Well, unless its costing 1 SC like the xmas sale XD, tmg-50 <3
  20. ata98

    I don't care i get like 300-600 cert a day

and in the last 3 days ( double exp ) i made 1200 cert every day

I can buy everything i want with cert sometime i buy some sc to support the game

it's not pay to win you can buy every thing with certs
