Considering going to PS2 on PS4

But I have a few questions for the fans that love/play this franchise so much. The large environments and huge battles seem like a great place for my clan but i'm concerned some with the variety. The PS2 lore is great but what i've seen from gameplay is essentially fighting over territory/bases.

Are there other objectives that provide variety? Can we steal/destroy/protect assets or is every battle similar? What i'm asking is does gameplay provide for instances where the objectives for victory are different? Can my objective be steal an experimental vehicle/protect a convoy or assassinate the enemy commander and then leave?

Or is all combat in PS2 essentially the same game mode?

thanks for the feedback in advance.

Planetside 2 is a huge team death match. There's only killing things, blowing up things and switching and defending control points.

Clearly the biggest and most strategical game that it advertises itself to be.

    Since i'm too lazy to write a blogpost right now, how about you watch one of these instead;

Well, escorting Sunderers to objectives and protecting them once they're in position is a critical task, but the game doesn't go out of its' way to tell you this. There are also Shield Generators and Spawn Control Units to take down, but unfortunately most of those aren't actually that important except inside Biolabs, where you'll frequently find people ignoring the points in favor of the gens completely. Based on what I've seen of Hossin, I expect Vehicle Gate Generators to be more important there.

On the whole, however, the fights are generally the same thing. Capture the points, destroy the vehicles, kill the enemies. But the game is so big, and there are so many different ways to go about those three things, that you and your clan should be able to get at least a few hundred hours of gameplay out of it. I mean, it's a free game. Once it comes out give it a shot and see if you like it.

The main objective of Planetside 2 is to not crash your air vehicle into a tree.

It all depends, Usually lone wolves never have much fun in this game YES since it is a''Fighting Over Territory'' only game BUT,BUT,BUT when you play with friends as a squad or platoon through team speak or voip the whole game changes and it becomes SUPER HAPPY FUN Time!!!! But on a more serious note NO you cannot steal/destroy BUT protect assets ( Bases And territory ) NO there are no experimental vehicles to steal, protecting a convoy or assassinate a commander. SORRY BRO BUT IT IS JUST A BETTER ONLINE VERSION OF BF4. But it would be cool if you could steal an enemy vehicle.o_O

Got it. and I agree that we should be able to get hundreds of hours of gameplay out of it, and F2P is great. I just wish there were more modes/objectives but hell, maybe thats for PS3 ;).

You can make your own objectives and there is more being added to it over time. It can be very complex, if you let it be. One thing to keep in mind is that this game is persistent. So "modes" don't really apply here. (some new capture mechanics would be nice, but that's a different beast) It's also strongly suggested that you play in squads for full enjoyment. It's also pure PvP, so don't expect anything that relies on NPC's.

Also keep in mind is that you're talking to a very jaded group of individuals on these forums, for the most part. Some having played for 1-2 years by now. So you'll have to take some harsh criticism with a grain of salt. I know that personally the game was like crack to me for my first 6 months. I'm still playing it weekly, and I'm going on nearly/around two years now.

But why take anyone's word for it? If you have a PS4, try it when it comes out. I only suggest giving it sometime to where you're past your newbie phase before calling it quits. Not to mention, the PS4 community will start off with a few PS2 vets, but it'll mostly have to build itself up since it's a new platform.

No, your objective is to cap Points which lead to capping other Points. Or blowing up a Generator so you can cap Points easier, but it's not necessary. This objective is there to funnel and drive the ever lasting TDM or Zerg VS Zerg that PS2 calls "Massive Scale Combined Arms War". So find the cheese, use the cheese, accept the randomness, endure the Beta State, embrace the K/D, grind and smile. It's free after all.

TSSDR : Apart from persistence which is pointless, it's TDM and once every so often, 3-Way TDM for ~10". Give it a go if you liked other generic FPS cuz actually F2P.

Hardcore mode is when that terrain glitch happens and you start seeing trees floating in the middle of the sky.

Your mission is to drive a flash from one base to the next without flipping it over and falling through the world to ******* Narnia.

That's just the secret "buff trees" patch. They felt they weren't getting enough kills, so they made them slightly more aggressive instead of just passive. They sense where high traffic lanes are and send one of their own into the air to combat the flying threat.

Well lately i've been spending way more time on PS2 than on BF4, both games are similar, vehicular combat with infantry around, instead of taking control points like in BF4, you can capture territories over a large continent - basically a huge BF map - and it's pretty much the same thing everyday, just like BF4 minus the bugs and crashes .

I don't think you can call planetside 2 a real MMO, theres no real progression, we should have player owned bases, orbital combat, some exploration, outfit owned vehicles like the Titan from Bf2142 but we dont. Development, when it comes to new content, is basically halted...but we do get constant bug fixes, weapons nerfs and such.

Other than that, it's a fun game as long as you are playing with a group, ps2 is no place for lone rangers. It's also a free game, you can go all the way up do Battle Rank 100 with all the guns without spending a dime on the game, it will take a lot longer, but you can do it. Just go for it and try it.

Copy. We're coming from MAG (many say it was inspired by PS1) Homefront and Dust 514 with a little BF mixed in. We love persistence and progression so hopefully the player owned bases, capture mechanics, exploration and orbital combat are added at some point.

I didn't mean modes as much as different objectives than base control. We love the idea of going to the map and looking for platoon leaders/AI with available missions to rescue AI POWs, destroy/capture bases, steal assets, assassinate commanders or protect convoys that provide more "game within the game" + variety and of course that wonderful XP when those objectives are completed.

The harder the task the more XP...again, its sounds like a blast and we're looking forward to it. Maybe those things will be in PS3.
