I run an AMD Radeon HD 6850 X2. My problem is that the GPU-Z application says I only have 1GB VRAM. Yet Planetside 2 runs at 60 FPS on ultra (no shadows). Does the "X2" imply I have two times 1GB ? Because I certainly cannot believe Planetside 2 will run on Ultra at 60 FPS with only 1GB of VRAM, "imposibruuuu..."
VRAM is a measure of capacity, not power. It will take some pretty demanding games to tax heavily on VRAM, and even then you will often have to use resolutions higher than 1920x1080 before 1GB VRAM starts to be a significant bottleneck.
My GPU isn't taxed as much and it's a GTX 660 OC by ASUS with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM. It's all about the Pentiums, yo!
The X2 is because its a dual GPU card, not the fan configuration. To the OP, your card should have 2GB per GPU, so 4GB total.
You still only have 2GB effective since memory is not shared and needs to be exact copies of one another to work.
