I've just for the third time (stupid me ) validated my PS2 game directory through steam, and it again for the third time completely deleted them, majority of the install - 9GB's worth to be exact as it tried to validate itself. Obviously if you're using through the steam portal, user beware, do not use Steam to validate the files unless you've got the benefit of massive bandwidth. Instead use the launcher tool, unless you want to reinstall the entire game. I've now re-installed from the website and will not make the same mistake, so in case anyone 'googles' the problem as I did, this is most likely the cause (Steam doing it) and nothing to do with PS2.
This has been said probably somewhere around 400 times on this forum already. At this point, not knowing it requires you to actively avoid reading any reference to Steam here. for having to re-download all that.
