Sniper Changes are RIDICULOUS. Good job SOE.

  1. Benton!

This is seriously the stupidest idea SOE has come up with yet...
  2. Sakai

Well said, friend. :) And that's really the only argument you need against that nerf. Snipers were never OP in the first place.
  3. AnnPerkins

Dying to a sniper ZOE/rocketpodnoob that you never had a chance to see fight back against is a poor gameplay experience for everyone on the receiving end.

Methinks she dost protest too much.

It has nothing to DO with OP. It's based on fun. If I am a solider who is fight for an objective do I really have time to run 300m away and chase down someone who can go 100% invisible at that range????

No, At no point is going to kill a sniper at that range worth my time. So you just a frustration everyone not fight at 300m. So they bring you into the battle to a range where everyone interacts with each other.
  6. LT_Latency

Except you can see and here this things and make plans to deal with them.

You can't see a sniper who is stealth and aiming at you from 300m
  7. AnnPerkins

at that range literally all you have to do is move a couple inches every couple seconds. You don't even need to continuously move. The time it takes to line up a shot and for the bullet to lob its way over to you gives you literally seconds to move.

On the other hand, a near invulnerable mech suit can outrun you and kill you before it even appears on your screen and an ESF can see every enemy within 200m and has dozens of rockets that can 1 shot you to spam at you while zipping in and out at near 300kph. And this is called balance.
  8. LT_Latency

Right but i am playing and making choices to deal with the MAX.

Having to dive and flop all over the place 24/7 because some one might be shooting at me that I have have no way of see or dealing with. Doesn't make the game more fun for lots of players. If they shoot and miss you should have a chance to at least damage them back. Which won't happen at 300m

You can hear MAX suits walk, they make loud stepping sounds for a reason and recon darts help let you see enemy poitions.
  9. Goden

I agree. The range should be 50 meters rather than 150.
  10. innersphere1

come out from that hill and fight...enjoy the battle. Come with a pistol, or with a smg ( smg infi are not op. they have low life, no shields, no jjets.) I prefer to play close range infi , when i snipe i feel i have no balls .
  11. Shadowyc

You don't have to dive and flop 24/7. Just move two or three feet every few seconds. Hell, not even two or three feet. If a sniper bodyshots you, you'll have a reasonable idea of where something is, and naturally you won't stand anywhere near that area again just to get shot. This also applies to everything else that shoots at you.

The hard counters to snipers are:
    - Other snipers,
    - Movement
    - Cover

If you can't be bothered using one of these freely, and readily available counter options, then expect to be shot. That's like being a heavy assault and complaining you can't kill armour with the LMG. If you've got an enemy sniper annoying you then get your own to kill him. It's not that hard considering they shoot tracer rounds and everyone gets damage direction indicators. If you need to stop moving to check the map, or whatever, then find some decent cover and stop there and not in the middle of an open paddock where any blueberry with a gun can hit you. Why should the sniper be nerfed to allow your laziness?

Also, has anyone factored the Time-To-Kill from a sniper properly?
Yes, it's a OHK, but then there's two whole seconds (near enough) of rechambering, reacquiring and rescoping. (The further at range the sniper is, the higher this goes as they adjust for bullet drop)
The actual TTK on a sniper is two seconds (ish), it's just front-loaded (kill first, then delay).

For all those who think 150m is 'long range' all i can say is that the pictures you've seen are all on 2D playing fields, but this is a 3D game, with verticality that must be accounted for. Please take a screenshot of the 150m range with the waypoint sitting on a tower landing pad (offense) or while standing on the pad (defense). Crossroads or Regent Rock would be good. Also, as a sniper, I'm not shooting the guys in the front lines, I'm shooting their support which can be up to 50m behind the front lines. This puts me within 100m of the LAs, Heavies, etc, and that is most assuredly inside effective LMG/Carbine range.

Finally, the sniper is not a direct warfare specialist, he's a psychological warfare specialist. A good sniper can keep down engie turrets, reduce medic efficacy and, on a good day, can constrain enemy movement to particular corridors by simply making them fear running through certain areas. All of which help your team by reducing the pressure on them. This is obviously working as intended, considering all the vehement cries in support of nerfing sniper range. The snipers ability to reach out and touch you is not the purpose of the class, it is only the means to the purpose of the class. Take away the means and it no longer serves a purpose.
  13. Benton!

Oh, tired of standing still and getting popped in the head?
  14. Raraldor

moving headshots even from 120 meters is still relatively easy (I have a decent success rate at moving enemies from that range, about 30-40% I'd say) and there is no counter for it except sprinting back and forth like a silly person, which not only doesn't always work but also keeps you ill-focused on the other enemies nearby you.

I've gotten over 1700 kills with my SAS-R alone, not counting my bolt driver and impetus, and I still think 150 meters is way too far for no reliable counter. 80-90 meters seems much more balanced.
  15. Hatesphere

cover is a hard counter to everything!

the response to a class should not be to pull the same class
moment is only what snipers like to tell other people to use, but don't want to have to use themselves within the 150m bracket.
  16. Benton!

    1. Moving HS at 200m+ is not easy.
    2. There are so many counters for snipers is silly.
    3. ...I don't even know anymore. I would love to see your HS stats with your bolt action, and I also want to see how many times you die to snipers.
  17. GunsmithJoe

Ok, sure. This is a combined arms game after all so I'll revise.
    Hard counters to snipers are:
    - ESFs with thermal scope, or radar
    - Libs with thermal scope
    - Galaxy with thermal scope
    - Flash with thermal scope, or radar
    - Harasser with thermal scope
    - lightning with thermal scope, or radar
    - MBT with thermal scope, or radar
    - Other snipers (if you want to counter from range)
    - Other infantry with a modicum of intelligence, possibly a NV scope, q-spotting, squad comms
    - Movement
    - Cover (Just because cover is a counter to everything doesn't negate the fact that it's still a counter)

I had thought about adding 'Intelligence' to the original list but thought it rather obvious. I guess I was wrong...
  18. Hatesphere

more then 50% of the things you listed involve pulling resources to deal with one annoying player.

not to mention the fact thermals do not work against a cloaked infi.
  19. Raraldor

    1. from that range you are really just doing less for your team than if you were a heavy or any other class in the front lines. A kill every 40 seconds really can't be even considered a dent in the enemies force due to respawns being about 6 seconds.

    2. what are the counters then? Becuase other than vehicles and maxes and aircraft (which no one should be able to solo reliably) I haven't run into any.

    3. 1713 kills with my SAS-R and 1164 of them were headshots (roughly, due to nanoweave in it's current form) So nearly 68% of my kills have been headshots. I am very rarely counter sniped, but since I can't pull up statistics like that it's up to you whether you believe me or not.
  20. ewokinarmor

I think this is pretty ridiculous too. If a sniper has the skill to take your head off at 150m+, then he had to compensate for bullet velocity and bullet drop a LOT and probably deserves the kill. If you were standing still....then why the hell were you standing still on a battlefield?!
