Novelty races are ok, but they shouldn't just look like the head of their base creature stuck on a humanoid body. There should be a mesh of characteristics. The head should look half human or quarter human with rat/cat/etc type features. Currently, the Kerran head for instance looks like a bad joke. If Ratonga done as "Disney" as this....bleh.

I had a hard time losing the halfling race in EQII. I resented the ratonga for being the placeholder, I would kill them to ensure a place for halflings once again.

Absolutely. The ratonga are a fantastic and fun race to play as in EQ2. There were entire guilds of them in my old server. They were my personal favorite, and they are a part of the lore. To not have them would be unfortunate.

I really like the way they look, but they look more like Vah Shir than Kerrans to me.

I've always liked the Ratonga. In a MMO world of noob quests where have you go out into the wilds, kill ten rats, and return for your reward, having the Ratonga representing rat-like creatures that don't generally appreciate being hunted down and killed by young adventurers for a few silver, or a spiffy new +1 weapon is both fun, and funny. It also fits well within the framework of the game as presented.

The only downside to small races has been a smaller hit box giving a slight advantage in pvp. If player hit boxes are standardized, then mo' races, mo' bettar.

I wouldn't play one, but I'm sure someone would find it fun.

Ratonga shouldn't be a playable race. It should be one of the emergent AI NPC races, though.

While I'm not one of them, many people have spent the last nine years enjoying life as a ratonga. Much like the drakken and the fae/arasai, I'd hope to see all of the current EverQuest and EverQuest II races represented in EQNext, so that everyone can assume their favorite persona!

I'm not sure I really get your post. Halflings have always been playable in EQII, so you never lost them.

As long as I can be an Ogre Warrior again on the first character I create, any other novelty races can be allowed!

Ratonga are a part of EQ. I think all/most of the current EQ races should come back. I would not be sad if Fae mysteriously vanished though.

I think you guys should put in a large amount of races because there is going to apparently be a ton of classes so the more the merrier!

I agree 100%. Ratongas should be a part of the game as NPCs, I am completely fine with that. I am not onboard with them being PCs. I would just stick with EQ1 races if I was in charge of that decision. Which I obviously am not.

Either way, I am still going to play the game, and if they decide to keep the Ratongas as PCs, I will get past it. If the people want it, give it to them. This particular person is not a huge fan of it though.

I dont have any preference. I do like the idea of nonhuman variety to the classes. That's great.

Hopefully there will be some distinct racial abilities in game...Ratonga have a lot to offer.
