Wizard damage

I'm relatively new to the game- but can anyone please explain to me if Wizards were in fact always a Tier 1 damage class? I see a lot of complaints that Chains of Eternity hurt wizards more than it helped. A number of people have had passing comments like the following "You picked the wrong time to be a wizard" "Wizard's aren't as good as they used to be"

As of right now I find that I definitely parse behind Beastlords, Assassins, and Rangers very frequently. Aside from my personal build and equipment, what was it that these other classes received that Wizards didn't get in COE?

Honestly it just takes a group to make a wizard viable.

My advise, get gear. Fight for the illy, fight harder to TC, and then fight for a bard and fury in your group. Then demand bolster... if you are raiding.

Yea I hear you- Time Warp is amazing. And I do definitely notice a difference when they are grouped with me. I think the thing that bothers me is that the EQ Dev team is more in love with the auto-attack classes now more so than casters.
