I think you're missing the point of APPEARANCE weapons. They have nothing to do with the numbers. Even though you see a crush weapon, your opponent would still be delivering piercing damage according to the stats of their FUNCTIONAL weapon, so your crushing mitigation would have no bearing on the situation. In this case I can understand the argument with matching damage types, but my personal opinion remains that I don't give a damn what kind of weapon I see flailing about since the numbers are all that really matter.
