That is a carry-over from EQ1. Heck even SOE makes fun of Rangers in the Ancient Cyclops chrono event instance :)

For those who never played EQ1 rangers often pulled for a group, and quite often while learning to do it properly got their arses whupped by an over-pull. "Ranja down!" was a running joke in EQ1.

I learned "Ranger Evac" was when they were one-shotted, and always thought it was funny but never knew the history.

I rather miss the FD pulling from EQ1 (or FD split as it was sometimes called). Won't work in EQ2 as mobs instantly run back to spawn point when they lose aggro, and linked mobs won't split.

EQ1 didn't have linked mobs. They would stop for a bit when they lost aggro, then one by one decide they were bored and wander back to their spawn point. So a monk or SK could pull a batch of mobs, run halfway back to group and FD. Once most mobs had wandered away someone in the group could swat the remaining one(s) and get a number that the group could handle. The closest thing to that in EQ2 is body pull vs ranged pull.

Edit: A Necro could FD split as well, but tended to be a bit like a Ranger...no feigning the death if hit :p
