All I mostly remember of Gates of Discord was the frustration of the sheer difficulty of content that was designed for a level 75 level increase that was not included with the expansion. I don't remember very much of the actual continent, zone layouts, or aesthetics because I never got too far to actually appreciate it.
The two issues with GoD were yes, the content was designed for a level cap raise from 65 in PoP to 70 that was canceled. Second big issue was that you needed to raid to get the full lore of the x-pac. So much of the lore took place in the Breakdown in Communication quest arc that went through all 4 raid zones to complete edit to add, I always loved the setting, art and mobs from this xpac. People lost their minds because it veered away from traditional D&D roots introducing extra-dimensional invaders, but IMO these were some of the coolest mobs I remember from EQ1 (having migrated to EQ2 permanently shortly after Depths of Darkhollow was released)
