When will the UI crash bug be fixed?

Ok so i was perusing the rest of this area and noticed a thread talking about a possible fix which involved deleting a whole helluva lot of stuff, etc. I'm not really all that keen on having to completely rebuild my UI (especially after i tried to and had the same problem as val) but I did delete the cache file for each character (in folder Cache --> character name) and their uisettings. I then loaded the UI for a character that I don't usually load.
Maybe it was the different character's UI that I loaded, but I tend to think it was the Cache file, so maybe the cache file is corrupting the uisettings file or something. Anyway, it's worked for me so far, i hope ya'll have the same results.

    Workaround, not a fix:

    1. delete the affected character's ui settings. This is in your main eq2 folder and looks like 'servername_charactername_eq2_uisettings'.

If 'delete' is a 4-letter word to you, then just move it somewhere, like desktop. (But trust me, you won't be needing that corrupt piece of $#^& again.)

    2. when you log in, you will get the /load_uisettings popup window, asking you if you would like to copy settings from another character. copy settings from a character you know is working.

    3. test everything that caused crash before (opening journal, accepting group invites, accepting quests, zoning, etc), and if you're good to go then /save_uisettings

    4. go into eq2 folder again and make a copy of the new, working uisettings file

Prior to this, I tried just using the /load_uisettings and copying another toon's settings (without deleting the old) and it didn't work. Only deleting the uisettings file got me any results. Seems to be working for me so far on my one toon that was affected, but we'll see. At least i can open my journal again, for cripes sake.

Crashquest 2 continues.... happening today with only two of my characters. But it happens to be my main and my favorite alt. :smileymad:
  5. ARCHIVED-Unnas Guest

From another thread, but seems to be working for me so far. Check your graphic resolution ingame, and if its below .85 move it up to .85, this seems to fix the directx error that occurs when you join groups, quest update, open inventory etc....

The crashing problem got so bad over the weekend on my characters that I cannot play at all.

I crash when I zone, open up quest journal or accept or finish a quest.

It has made this game unplayable.
  7. ARCHIVED-Rangequest Guest

I now see that I was completely gullable I actually thought this was an area that tech would actually be supporting but I haven't seen a post from anyone at SOE on this topic. They must have no idea how easy it is to just cancel, delete and walk away from an unplayable game.

Good job QC I hope you all get fired.

UG, This will probably take me at least an hour to set up all my windows and options from scratch. I always get this in my alertlog.txt:

I spent about an hour or two going through every window and option and putting everything back. I turned off all my UI mods in case they were the problem. I called over to the Splitpaw Den and entered the solo arena.. Boom! game over :smileysad:

My lucan dlere_vaspar_eq2_uisettings.ini file is now blank and here's what my ui.log says:

Huh. this reminds me of a ui eq1 bug where similiar problems would occur if your menus or windows were a bit off the screen. They had forgotten to think of that in a patch update so anyone that had windows that projected off the "desk space" would cause issue. Anyway this isn't a fix Wife and I still have this occuring randomly but /load_uisettings is a god send. I would also then do /save_uisettings to insure it's saved then go out of the game find your character name servername ui ini file [just search windows for *charactername* to find it and copy the good one to your desktop for a backup
this way next time game crashes to desktop you can drag it back into the eq2 folder overwrite the broken one and go right back to gaming. [at least until the next crash].

Same problem(s) here. Been playing for 1.5 years and never had problems this bad. About 4 days ago, I crash to desktop. Hmm, that's happened a couple times, so didn't think it was a big deal until I log back in to find the default ui. I try to load my ui (which is pretty much the default - only moved a couple boxes and made a couple extra hotbars - never downloaded or installed any custom ui's), using the command that the previous poster talked about, crashed. So, I try to load a ui from an alt, bam I crash again. I do the full file scan, twice, and start to load back up. Crash again. I delete a bunch of ui files, per the instructions, and load back up. I get into the game, but as soon as I recieve invite, crash. Load back up, and as soon as I open inventory, CRASH AGAIN. Delete some more files, re-download them, full file scan again, and load back up. I refrain from accepting the invite to my scheduled raid. I refrain from opening my inventory and begin the long sucky task of putting all the windows where I need them, and recreating the 50+ hotkeys - ug. Then I try to open inventory and it works! But I notice a couple things missing from my inventory. So, I explain everything so far to a GM, and he suggests that I do EXACTLY THE SAME THING I'VE ALREADY DONE-haha. So I delete ui folder, some ui files in the main folder, and do everything again. Load back up, and crash. Then I uninstall the game, restore my pc to an earlier date (why not), and reinstall. Get back in and re-do my ui. All is good, I now see everything in my inventroy and everythingrunning ok for 1 day now. I sure hope I don't have to EVER go through this again, and the chat channels are flooded with others having the exact same problems. Seems to be the #1 issue for the past week, but no response from anyone at soe, and really pissing me off.

And the best thing about this bug and this thread is the overwhelming positive response from SoE CSR.... oh wait, I was on crack, THERE IS NONE

^^^ I really don't think that a response in a non-related forum is a viable form of acknowledgment, there should be a headline sticky in this forum with regular updates....that is how customer support should react.

It is really sad that they are in the middle of their community summit discussing how they can improve, and they let a game breaking issue for hundreds of players go unaddressed.

And to top it all off they will be taking the forums off-line for 4 days per this message.

Finally. Thank you Grim. Much appreciated.

This has been going on so long, I don't have time to play beta tester.

My wife and I can't enjoy eq2 whatsoever, now I know why I quit 2 years ago, should have never come back. $oe is up to the same song and dance.

I can't even cancel because it's asking me for some bogus security question. I called the customer support # but again, it's a huge run around.

This same stunt is pulled across the board on every front, limited number of characters, player exchange, terrible station website, content packs, etc. etc.

That link is pathetic. A single person is now looking into this issue, after how many threeds by people are deleted or closed with absolutely no response. SOE should have a TEAM fixing this reported bug asap, and it should have happened many weeks ago, well before the last content patch.

Customer no-service is more like it.

Good riddence, thank goodness I changed my mind on all-station access because it's the same thing in Vangaurd as well.
  17. ARCHIVED-Rangequest Guest

You can classify as a response but a poor one. Especially when for the last two days everytime I try to go to support I get a certificate error and then they want to verify my email address yet again but never send the automated response.

Tech Support is unreachable for me.
  18. ARCHIVED-Swiftshadow Guest

With the help of a knowledgeable guildie, i managed to fix this... so far, so good.
Originally I was having the UI reset to default so I was having to load up an alts UI. After about a week of this I started crashing on zoning, on opening quest journal and the character was unplayable so....
Deleted my characters UI ini file (crushbone_ayasha_eq2_uisettings.ini) - this is the only file you need to delete.
Went back into the game.. SAID NO to importing another characters UI (important)
    CAMPED before I did anything
Came back in and rebuilt my UI from scratch.
Important parts are DO NOT use another characters UI by importing it, CAMP as soon as youve logged in the first time after deleting .ini file.
Now, another problem others were having was having one hotbar and not being able to open another or change it. You can, its very very touchy on the area you right click on. Its right at the border along the side edge, took me a couple minutes to get the window hotbar options to come up. Once you change it to have the spinner and frame its easier to move etc. Its very touchy, but doable. I now have my UI back up and running, no crashing and I raided today ok, no problems (except I was still playing round with my UI i bit when we raided hehe)
    Hope this helps

After deleting the UI files and trying everything else on this post (and 2 others), without any long term success. I back dated my computer one day and have not had the problem since.
