    Good Day ROAD TRIPPERS!!!

Today we are continuing our adventures in Palermo. As this is the capital city of Sicily, we will be here all of today and perhaps tomorrow as well, we will see how things go!!! A lot of these stops will be very long, so we might not have very many stops today but it will be a full day with the length of time they take. Lets get a move on!!!

Our first stop today is the Monumento strage di Capaci. This is a monument where two judges were blown up and killed by the mafia. Here is a link to a website for teaching children but it is by far the best one out there:

    https://www.focusjunior.it/scuola/s...mo-giovanni-falcone-per-sconfiggere-la-mafia/

For our next stop, I made arrangements with a licensed Sicilian Dive Company to accompany us in our underwater people movers so that we could visit the areas of the Protected marine natural area Capo Gallo - Isola delle Femmine. There are a few Karst Caverns that can be visited but only with licensed dive companies and I know not all of us, if any are fans of scuba diving or snorkeling, so they agreed to send a few of their people with us so that we can visit these areas. Here are a couple of links, two to the wiki pages and one to the wikimedia:

    https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_naturale_marina_protetta_Capo_Gallo_-_Isola_delle_Femmine

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Riserva_naturale_orientata_Capo_Gallo

Off we go to the Piazza Pretoria to see the Fontana Pretoria aka the Fountain of Shame. This is a very large fountain that has Satyrs, Nymphs, Harpies, Sirens, Tritons, Mermaids, Humans, and other monsters all around it in statuary and reliefs. Here are a couple of links:

    http://www.cittametropolitana.pa.it...015756_Piazza_Pretoria___Square_of_Shame.html

Next we are going to the Museo archeologico regionale "Antonino Salinas" Polo regionale di Palermo per i Parchi e i Musei Archeologici. Here is a link to the museum website:

    http://www.regione.sicilia.it/bbccaa/salinas/collestcol2016.html

Now we are going to creep around in the Catacombe dei Cappuccini. This is a catacomb containing over 8000 mummies some dating back over 500 years. Here is a link to their website:

    http://www.catacombepalermo.it/

Now we are off to the The Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum. This is a new one for us kind of, I think we have only been to one other. Here is a link to the museum website:

    https://www.museodellemarionette.it/en/

Now to stroll through the Giardino Garibaldi. This is a garden in the Piazza Marina. It has a remarkable tree called the Ficus macrophylla subsp. columnaris (also known as F. magnolioides ) it is the largest tree in Europe. This speciman of Ficus not only grows its roots below ground, but also grows surface and aerial roots. Here is a link to the garden website:

    http://www.giardinisiciliani.it/proprieta_giardino.php?id=32

Our next stop is the Il Castello della Zisa. This is a castle dating back to 12th century. Here is a link to the wiki and to the UNESCO World Heritage Site:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zisa,_Palermo

    https://whc.unesco.org/en/documents/137443

For our last stop today, we will be paying a visit to the No Mafia Memorial. This is a memorial project set up to promote the No Mafia movement, there is a lot of information on this as Palermo is typically associated as the birthplace of the mafia. Here is a link to the website:

    http://www.nomafiamemorial.org/Il Memoriale/Gli Allestimenti

Cocktail hour is 6 pm and dinner is at 7 pm at Old Wild West here in Palermo. This is a Steakhouse, American, Mexican, and Italian restaurant.

Sorry for not being around those past few days, I had some IRL-stuff to attend to!

    I love everything you posted!

I have a sweet spot for those sculpted houses in Capadoccia, Schmett, they look fantastic!

It's to bad , that nature destroys those carved out cities when the rock erodes .
You can see how on a lot of those places the outside wall collapsed and reviled the inside .
The places where carved out to hide from the Moslems that had conquered the area .
So people moved under ground or just inside on of the rock faces , so they could keep on living there way ( as Christians )
Have you also noticed the land is getting dryer , lakes and swamps are shrinking the land is more dusty than it used to be .
I could make a side trip to Petra , Rosie , it's not to far from the east border of Turkey
It's a good thing we got such quick transportation like teleportation .

Petra is also suffering from decay , but in this case it's the people who visit . to much moisture from their breath .
They had to close the inside rooms for visitors .

Ok it was finally time to leave Cappadocia and move on.
We are heading in to Southeastern Anatolia .
This region is mostly settled by Kurds some of the friendliest folks there are .

Two well known rivers originate in the mountains of Southwest Anstolia .
The river Firat / Euphrates and the river Dicle / Tigris .

The people of Antep defended their city successfully against the French army because everybody did what they could ,
every man woman and even children .
For holding their City against the French invaders they earned the title " Gazi " ( war hero ) so today the city is called
    Gazitep .

Ssssh, don't tug on your leash or you'll get all of us flogged!
  18. Schmetterling Well-Known Member

Yes Leloes it went straight from spring into summer .
The thing is the old world has just so much more to see , thousands of years more of history .
Cyrrena , Whilhelima and I are also looking at a lot more things here in Europe , than we did in the states .
I have to be more general I guess or I will be still on the 2220 spring trip in 2120.

lol Mina :) I won't do that , looks carefully around if the boss is anywhere near
    You can take a break.
Sees Cyrrena come around the corner "I think I saw this comfy dungeon not long ago with a nice cool stone floor"
