Sage Information Updated June 26, 2010

    Information for the Sage class:

Sages only make spells - for Priest and Mages
Sages also make - player written books and adornments some special things from faction recipes.

Mage spells use Soft Metal and Priest spells use Gems. For both rare and common recipes.

Example of the Sage class at work:

Essentially the basic Idea is Sage level matches class level that you can make spells for. I.E. Sage Level 20 could make level 20 spells for both Mage and Priest Classes ect.
    1. Rare Priest Spells (Expert)

Generally and since the revamp they did fix some inconsistencies with spells and levels they can be created at. If someone came to me for example Seeping Eschar Expert (A level 28 Priest Spell) I would need to have Advanced Sage Volume 28 scribed to have that recipe available to me. That recipe would require a Gem for that tier (Tier 3) which would be Rough Jasper also need belladonna root and severed ash.

    2. Common Priest Spells (Journeyman)

I they wanted a common (Journeyman) spell, it would require the common Gem from that tier, Rough Agate (also need belladonna root and severed ash) and I would have to have Sage Essentials 28 scribed.

    1. Rare Mage Spells (Expert)
If I wanted to make say an Expert 'Volitile Refuge' for a customer that would also be from Advanced Sage Volume 28, which I would have to have scribed. Since this is a Mage class spells (Conjurer Level 28 ) It will need the rare Soft Metal for the Expert spells also need belladonna root and severed ash.

    2. Common Mage Spells (Journeyman)
For the common I will need the common Soft Metal which for Tier 3 is Gold Cluster (also need belladonna root and severed ash). I will also need to have Sage essentials Volume 20 Scribed.

    *Notes:
You will use pretty much the same raw types from all the tiers:
    • Stone Nodes
    • Wood Nodes
    • Root Nodes
Through the tiers the basic raw layout:
    • 1 Stone - (Soft Metal or Gem depending on the class type)
    • 2 or more Roots
    • 2 or more Wood
That number increases every two tiers by 1 and I will cover them fully in detail below in section (3)
The only exceptions Tier 1 and Tier 2 where you will only be using the Gems, though they both come off the same node.
Books will be covered in section (2) (Including info on them for the beginning Sage)

    Tiers:
Tiers cover a level range, in example level 10 - 19 is a tier, specifically Tier 2.
So when people specify and the new users know what I'm talking about, this is how it works.

    • Tier 1 (T1) = Level 1 to 9
    • Tier 2 (T2) = Level 10 to 19
    • Tier 3 (T3) = Level 20 to 29
    • Tier 4 (T4) = Level 30 to 39
    • Tier 5 (T5) = Level 40 to 49
    • Tier 6 (T6) = Level 50 to 60
    • Tier 7 (T7) = Level 61 to 70
    • Tier 8 (T8) = Level 71 to 79
    • Tier 9 (T9) = Level 80 to 90
I will be using those some in the lower sections for reference.

    Changes -
We no longer have subs and therefore no longer make WORT's, Ink, or Quills anymore - it is completely done away with, everything is made straight from raws.
Some books were created and I know a lot of Sages including myself lost some recipes. In example they made some corrections through the tiers. There was both level 20 and 21 recipes in Advanced Sage Volume 21. They have corrected this and added Advanced Sage Volume 20 in the level 20 recipes that were in Volume 21 are no longer there.

    ## Apprentice IV is known as Journyman, Adept III is known as Expert, Master 1 is known as Master and Master II is known as Grandmaster, Apprentice II and III no longer exist.
    Spells -
Spells for example Seeping Eschar was placed in the book it belongs in (28 ) instead of a tier ahead. I am going to try and list everything as accurate as possible, so as I said. Please if you have any corrections feel free to let me know.
    ---------------------------
Journeyman and Expert, what's the difference and where do they fit in?

Jounreyman is the next best thing to Adept I (which is a fairly common mob drop) - only common components are required. Although Adept I's are fairly common there are some Apprentice IV spells that are marketable.

Expert is the next best thing to a Master spell (Which is a rare mob drop) - a rare Gem or Soft Metal is required, common wood and roots are still used.

Some advice: Know you're market, there is a stickied thread with a list of Grandmaster choices that classes get. You really want to avoid trying to sell a spell that most people are likely to pick for their Grandmaster choice.

Direct Requests (selling per customer request rather than the broker): Keep an eye on those level channels and Crafting if you are LFW, you can gain some business from there. Prices are between you and you're customers, I won't give any advice there.

Make sure you have the recipe for the spell(s) a customer wants you to make before you take the offer - saves some hassle.

    Spell Creation -
Jounreyman Spells, you have 4 durability bars (1) Fuel (2) Fuel (3) Fuel and (4) Jounreyman, the best possible quality. If you're working on leveling you're Sage it is best to hit the pristine bar (4th) to get that first time bonus XP.
Expert Spells, you will get 2 (Dusts) which are used for poisons by alchemists, they do sell.

    --------------------------------

    Basics:

Through out all Tiers there are 2 types of recipe books.

    • Essentials - All you're common (Journeyman Recipes) will be Essentials
    • Advanced - All you're rare (Expert Recipes) will be Advanced

    • Ancient Teachings - These are special (Expert Recipes) I believe referred to as Marquee spells only in Tier 6 and 7.
    Essentials:

Essential books can be purchased -
Level 1 to 79 are available from the NPC outside every crafting instance - you will only see the ones available for the current tier you are in trade skill level wise.

Advanced volumes with the exception of T6 - Ancient Teachings (which can be purchased if you have ally faction with a court in Maj'Dul or Mob dropped) are all mob dropped.
    ---------------------

    Ancient Teachings

These spells are a little different than the norm, there are no Journeyman recipe books, only Expert. Master drops of these are fairly rare.

(All Ancient teachings are available with enough court faction - all are mob dropped) - Thank you Domino for adding those in!

    Handy things to know:
EQ2 Traders Corner - I find is a very useful site for all things crafting.
    Isle of Mara
Player written book recipes can be obtained from Meledi Augren on the isle of Mara at level 50 - Sage only
A Gathering obsession started from Qho Augren offers quests from 5 to level 75 for harvesting, the end reward that can be done by adventurers and crafters alike, gives a nice harvesting cloak.
Xin-Xu Augren offers a quest that gives a 36 slot bag that holds harvestables.

    RoK -
There are special class specific recipes that can be obtained with 20k and 30k faction with Bathezid, Danak and Riliss. If you are low level adventurer, but high level crafter you can obtain the faction via writs at their respective locations (Rillis and Bathezid in Fens of Nathsar and Danak in Jarsath Wastes. The books are Heirloom so you can trade them to your alts via shared bank. If you have an adventurer that has enough faction I recommend going that route. Otherwise you must grind the faction mainly via writs.
-- When you are a level 80 sage you can start the tradeskill epic quest. You must have -20k Bathezid's Watch faction to start the quests series. It gives you a very handy earring (not TS class specific) and a class specific cloak. It is very well worth doing that quest.
    TSO -

TSO brought some interesting things in for tradekills.
I'm not going to list all of them out, but I will give the basics. At level 50+ you can talk to Aymee Quikspoke in Moors of Ykesha, she will give you a quest and once you complete that series you can go to Mara and do some far seas writs, a solo and group daily mission. There are faction rewards that you buy from the merchant also the instances there have some craftng drops as well, including shard recipes and crafting equipment.
Grobb, Tupta and Survival Accord have some faction recipes available once you have the faction (these are not sage specific).

Keep in mind these days most of the tradeskill quests give tradeskill XP, including the mission, they do make a nice alternative way to level up crafting.

    Sentinal's Fate - Level 90 Cap

There are 3 crafting factions in this expansion
Kerra Isle (Oufitters), Quel'ule (Scholars) and Hua Mein (Craftsman).
Quel'ule is the one with the sage recipes.
Once you do a series of tradeskill quests starting at spire island, you will get access to a daily quest for each crafting faction, after you get to that point it is the only way to earn faction with them. It is of course up to you if you wish to go through the faction grind.

Advanced books are available on the Quel'ule faction merchant, however broker seems the best option for those.

The Sage Secrets of Quel'ule book requires +40000 faction. There is some furniture available as well.

Also note, the new books to craft armor drop in the tradeskill instances (no new crafting instances this expansion). Some very nice armor can be made with Marks of Manar(Adventure tokens - T9). However, not all pieces are available to craft.

06/26/2010 is my last update on this for good. If anyone here feels it would be worth while to keep it and maintain it please feel free to do so. (please keep it accurate). If no one wants to take on this one feel free to take it off your list Calthine when it gets out of date enough.

    Thank you.

(note to mods) this thread is in the stickied (FAQ and Guide Links) list at the top of this forum (not a necro), I'm just posting if someone would like to take it over for the tradeskill community. Thanks!
