However when I completed the quest I was not given the option of choosing an item as it's stated. Instead I was given a Unyeiling Knights Helmet. Is there anyway I can have the item exchanged?
I see what is confusing you. Zam doesn't always have the details of quests: compare to this LINK at EQ2.Wikia. As you can see, the helm you receive is based on your class.
