Razorwing Talon Necklace vs Torque of Divine Inspiration for raiding Necro?

Anyone tested and know which is better? My guess is Torque but haven't been able to test since CB doesn't effect lifeburns?

  3. Koko Well-Known Member

The torque (finisher II necklace) is better. Lifeburn isn't significant. Verification can be found with Adornment Heuristic C Constant (KAC CC) charts.
  4. Montag Well-Known Member

I should have mentioned, my torque has no gem upgrade so it's 40/75.
  5. Koko Well-Known Member

Then it is a much more interesting problem. Your playstyle and group/raid composition (and likewise their playstyle) now contribute significantly.

I expect the razorwing necklace to be superior, but the charts will answer directly (and accurately).

Oh I see, the spreadsheet in our sig. I've downloaded and looked at it but don't understand how to use it. :(
  8. Koko Well-Known Member

I haven't had time to record a presentation, but a powerpoint of how to use the charts can be found here.

Alternatively, if you provide me with your encounter CB & P values in addition to your EncDPS breakdown I can provide use the chart for you. Assuming I get the rights to use your information for further examples so I don't have to do double work! ;D

Holy Bristlebane you're lucky Excel can parse data. Unfortunately, this isn't what I requested (it is missing outside ability and auto attack EncDPS values). Fortunately, it doesn't really matter. I'll explain later on, for now, analysis.

    CB: 568.2*
    P: 606.1*
*Assumes boosts from AAs on specific abilities is negligible (fairly good assumption)
*also assumes that the values on this page reflect encounter values (e.g. band of the band, fanatic stud, wurmlord's wrist of the ethereal, etc.), this is a bad assumption but it doesn't actually matter (as we'll see later)

Plugging these values, with the gear options, into the heuristic chart yields the following,
    [IMG]
    Where
Option 1: is 30 critical bonus & potency (razorwing necklace)
Option 2: is 57.5 potency (finisher necklace)**
**assumes that encounter duration > 50% and encounter duration < 50% are equal, which they aren't ( 50%+ > 50%-, therefore effective potency of finisher neck < 57.5)

What an interesting chart (lol)! To use the chart, find the intersection point of normalized EncDPS of Outside Abilities (e.g. Peace of Mind, Stampede, etc.) and Auto Attacks. We lack these values! But fortunately, the entire graph is positive...even at 0% OA and AA.

What this means is Option 1 is always better (razorwing necklace). If true values of AA & OA damage were used (non zero), the EncDPS of the razorwing necklace would further increase (it is always better). This conclusion is expected to hold with encounter CB & P values, as P is increased much more easily than CB (e.g. Truespirit's Legacy, Winds of Obol, Fanatic Stud, Band of the Band, etc.).

A more detailed answer can be obtained with the simulator, which will account for AA specific boosts, but it isn't often necessary on binary questions (such as this). ^~

That's awesome man, you are like some kind of statistics magician! Thanks a ton. :)

It's so weird too because I was just talking to my wife this morning about how I wish I understood statistics better so I could figure out what 2 fifty percent chances of something in a row actually equal.
  12. Snapshot Active Member

Actually this is completely wrong information, lol. The neck is 40% potency over 50% and 115 potency under 50%. This is an average of 77.5% potency, and is better than the razorwing for nearly every class.
  13. Koko Well-Known Member

    Torque of Divine Inspiration
I was completely on board with you originally Snapshot, I had to jump ships with the new information as well.
  14. Snapshot Active Member

It is 40% potency static then 75% potency when under 50 so you get 115 under 50. It's not 40 over then you lose it and gain 75.
  15. Koko Well-Known Member

Ah, if it is in addition to then you're right, and I need to jump ships again.

A corrected chart comparison would be,
    [IMG]
Which shows negative values everywhere (option 2 is superior), supporting your analysis.

and...(because I messed up), I will make amends with cool (more informative) pictures... in 3D
    [IMG]
Negative values indicate Finisher I is better, positive indicates Razorwing.
I find it highly unlikely that our necromancer friend has AA or OA damage > 50%, go for the Finisher.
  16. Montag Well-Known Member

Woot, thanks again Koko! And snapshot!
  17. Mae- Well-Known Member

Wish I understood what I was seeing on those charts...
  18. Koko Well-Known Member

It certainly is a lot to take in!

The charts show the total EncDPS multiplier with respect to normalized Auto Attack and Outside Ability damage. Which says a lot in too few words, so to break it down...

EncDPS is a function of many components, Auto Attacks, Inside Abilities, Outside Abilities (e.g. Peace of Mind, Stampede), and Procs all of which must be treated differently with respect to stats. Procs, primarily, are not influenced by stats (or the GMs have put considerable effort to ensure they do not scale). Because we only care about damage that scales with stats for gear selection, we can simplify these parameters normalizing the damage ratios (%DMGnormalized = %DMG/(%DMG - %Proc)*. Or we can reduce the inputs to AA, IA, and OA. Because these values must add up to 100%, we can express one component in terms of the others (e.g. IA = 1 - OA - AA). This is beneficial, as a fewer parameters is preferable (multi dimensional graphs are more difficult to visualize). TL;DR for this paragraph "we can simply some stuff with some math so we can get a graph that relates %DMG Multiplier to Auto Attack and Outside Ability damage as inputs"

Now both pieces of gear will offer unique stats (duh). What we are interested is which one offers a larger multiplier, or the difference between the two gear pieces. To get this, we calculate the difference between gear option 1 and gear option 2.

This is most easily visualized on the second (3D) graph. A negative value indicates that option 1 - option 2 resulted in a lower EncDPS multiplier. This is bad (we want to deal more damage!), and should be avoided if possible (select option 2!). However, a positive value indicates option 1 - option 2 is a higher EncDPS multiplier. This is good (yay damage!), and should be the goal (select option 1).

To find out which is best for the necromancer, we need to know the EncDPS% of his auto attack (AA) and outside abilities (OA), find the intersection of those values on the graph, and then determine whether it is a positive or negative value. Although we don't know the values (he didn't post them for us ;o), negative values populate the chart until AA and OA are unreasonably high for a necromancer (30%+). For this reason, we can conclude he should (likely) go for the finisher necklace.

    *we also need to consider the potency boost of procs for allies (their OA), but for sake of this explanation lets pretend that doesn't exist... that is a lot of text! How to do this, or a simplified way of doing this, is explained in the power point. ^^;

This is why I let the smart people do the math, and I just nod and say "sounds good." ;)
